BoBoiBoy (pronounced Bo-Bo-Boy) is an animated series from Malaysia produced by Animonsta Studios featuring a group of kids with various superpowers. The titular character, BoBoiBoy, has the ability to control elements as well as split into three while his friends have other abilities, such as flight, super strength, super speed and the ability to turn objects into food. The first season of the show ran from 2011 to 2012 and had 13 episodes containing a Story Arc which largely focuses on an alien Adu Du and his Robot Buddy Probe, who has come to Earth for cocoa beans, which, though plentiful on Earth, is thought to be extinct in the rest of the universe. Not only that, cocoa beans also happen to be an invaluable source of energy. Adu Du also happens to own a Power Sphere, which are spherical robots that have the power to grant a user superpowers, but in the first episode, it was taken by BoBoiBoy and thus the Sphere (named Ochobot) granted him powers instead. It was renewed for a second and third season airing from 2012 to 2016 featuring new characters and enemies. March 2016 saw the release of BoBoiBoy: The Movie, taking place after the series finale. After the sequel series' first season, the sequel film BoBoiBoy Movie 2 followed in August 2019.The soft reboot sequel, titled BoBoiBoy Galaxy began airing on TV on 25th November 2016. It follows the cast taking their adventures and battles against evil to space, by rescuing other Power Spheres from being abused in the hands of power-hungry aliens. The 2nd season of the Galaxy series is continued in a comic book series called simply BoBoiBoy Galaxy Season 2, with its animated version scheduled to release on December 3rd, 2023.It is available for viewing on Monsta's YouTube channel with English subtitles. A separate channel exists for English-dubbed episodes as well.Mechamato, by the same studio, takes place in the same world, but in the past.

Aliens Speaking English: In this case it's Malay, since this show aired in Malaysia. In the English dub though (for obvious reasons) this trope comes into play. In the fifth episode of the third season in Malay, however, Adu Du struggled to speak English. Probe in the "Making of BoBoiBoy The Movie" had the same problem but can somehow has no problem with speaking Japanese...

When the Sleep Monster traps everyone in his Dream World, Gopal challenges the Sleep Monster to a game of checkers in exchange for their freedom per the advice of Papa Zola from his show, but Papa Zola doesn't know how to play checkers. 5 minutes later, the Sleep Monster has told Papa Zola how to play, but it is unfortunately for naught as Papa assumes that having his own pieces eliminated first makes him the winner.

The Worf Effect: In Season 3 Episode 24, where Captain Kaizo defeats Ejo Jo in 30 seconds, the latter of whom BoBoiBoy took four episodes to beat. Not to mention Ejo Jo brought even more powerful armor than in their previous encounter. While the heroes struggled against one PETAI robot for 2 episodes, Lahap easily obliterates not just 5 of those robots with ease, but also proceeds to deal enough damage to Ejo Jo's spaceship enough to force it to crash-land. The season 1 finale fight basically begins with Mukalakus showing itself to be faster than Ying and stronger than Yaya.

Breaking the Fourth Wall: The characters occasionally talk about "previous episodes", for starters. In Season 1, Episode 10, Computer and Probe answer fan mail that the latter stole from BoBoiBoy per his boss' instructions. Season 2 has Adu Du and Probe re-use an old plan of theirs, as the latter convinces the former that the audience wouldn't notice. In BoBoiBoy Water and Adu Du's banter in Season 3, the exchange shows that Adu Du actively plays the villain for the show to continue. Water reminds that the show ran just fine during Adu Du's temporary Heel–Face Turn, and that he as the hero is going to win anyway.

Regained Memories Sequence
 BoBoiBoy (Animation) / int_21fa6396
comment
Regained Memories Sequence: Early in the show, the titular hero couldn't use his Elemental Split for too long should he risk becoming forgetful. Adu Du and Probe utilised this by kidnapping one of the elementals. BoBoiBoy's memory worsened to the extent that he easily believed the enemies were his friends. They trick him into attacking his actual friends, which works until Probe says BoBoiBoy's Catchphrase: "Awesome!", which triggers the rogue elemental to recall every time the hero had said that word, thus restoring his memory. In season 3, Adu Du desperately tries reviving his Robot Buddy Probe and eventually succeeds. However, Probe doesn't seem to remember him anymore, acting like an apathetic battle robot on default settings. It's when Adu Du throws a mug at his head, something that he always did when Probe screwed up, that Probe regains his memories, complete with a flashback montage of various instances where a mug was thrown at him, while Probe's voice from past scenes played in the background.

How Do I Shot Web?: In the first few episodes, BoBoiBoy has some trouble conjuring lightning or creating a cyclone. Easy Amnesia: If BoBoiBoy stays split for too long, he starts losing his memory, but it can be easily regained once all his forms merge back. The villains exploit this weakness by kidnapping one of the elemental forms, BoBoiBoy Lightning, leading him to becoming a Criminal Amnesiac up until Probe accidentally triggers a Regained Memories Sequence in the rogue hero by saying his catchphrase, restoring his identity as a hero. However, he still has to merge back with the others to completely remember. In Issue 20 of BoBoiBoy Galaxy Season 2, Blaze and Ice's deteriorating memory nearly causes the two to kill each other, but they are stopped before they can summon their 3rd-tiers, saving them just in time.

Early in the show, the titular hero couldn't use his Elemental Split for too long should he risk becoming forgetful. Adu Du and Probe utilised this by kidnapping one of the elementals. They trick him into attacking his actual friends, which works until Probe says BoBoiBoy's Catchphrase: "Awesome!", which triggers the rogue elemental to recall every time the hero had said that word, thus restoring his memory.

Popular Is Evil: Downplayed and subverted. Fang was introduced as a student who drew some admirers but made no friends for six months. His jealousy over BoBoiBoy being more popular than him is what sparks a rivalry between the two. While its name refers to the members of its group, it's also a pun in Indonesia and Malaysia as Badut means Clown, this circles back to the reference that it's an Evil Clown group.

Cloning Splits Attributes: The titular character can create 3 clones of himself, later 5 then 7, each with a unique elemental power. According to Retak'ka in BoBoiBoy Movie 2, it is an inferior way of using his powers. While splitting allows him to use them simultaneously and increases the number of active fighters, it ends up being weaker due to dividing power among multiple copies of BoBoiBoy. The most power-efficient way to use them is to split into 2 then fuse into one singular form which removes the numbers advantage but retains the ability to wield multiple elements at once along with gaining a new upgraded power.

Tap on the Head: When a character gets hit on the head and it's Played for Laughs, the victim ends up with a red whipped cream-like structure on top of their head, which vanishes by the very next scene. BoBoiBoy gets knocked unconscious after a blow to the head in "BoBoiBoy Leaf vs the Pirates". He lands on a tree and fortunately survives both impacts, debuting a new form instead. However, said form acts scatterbrained as a result.

Unspoken Plan Guarantee: Most plans in the series are either not spoken or the planning scenes are skipped, sometimes with flashbacks to the planning scene once the plan works. Inverted in "Kidnapped!", where the only part we hear from Tok Aba's plan (let Adu Du capture Gopal) succeed, while the part we don't hear (Gopal is supposed to pretend to sleep, then get BoBoiBoy inside) failed. In "The Battle on the Moon", the heroes's last ditch plan is apparently have Gopal shoot a transforming blast towards the scammer brothers's robot, but Gopal missed. Gopal turns a bunch of rocks into gold instead, which gets the scammers's attention. Then, it's revealed that distracting the scammer's was the plan all along.

Evil Knockoff: In the middle of the original series' 3rd season, Adu Du builds BoBoiBot, a robotic replica of the titular hero, who proves himself to be a more capable superhero than BoBoiBoy. After BoBoiBoy admits defeat, Adu Du uses BoBoiBot to extort the civilians, forcing BoBoiBoy to find a new way to defeat his knockoff. In BoBoiBoy Galaxy, the episode "Copy and Paste" has the criminal Gijimo use the power spheras Copybot and Pastebot to produce pirated robotic copies of BoBoiBoy to attack him and his crew. The clones are mediocre in quality but make up for that with their sheer numbers, so the heroes finally aim their attacks to their production source as well, putting them and the criminal out of commission.

Signature Headgear: BoBoiBoy always wears his iconic orange dinosaur-like cap. It has 3 white spikes, yellow spots at its sides, his lightning insignia, and a mouth-like shape with teeth on the opposite side of the bill. The earliest concept design even gave the hat 3 open eyes. These were evidently removed, and so were the teeth in BoBoiBoy Galaxy and onwards, but the overall design remains the same. His elemental counterparts all wear similarly designed hats, although each with a different base color and insignia depending on the elemental. Each elemental has their own style of wearing the cap as well, respective to each of their personalities.

Character Catchphrase: BoBoiBoy often says "Awesome!" (Or in Malay, "Terbaik!") when something cool happens, often coupled with a thumbs up. The Hindi dub for India translates the hero's catchphrase by coining a new word: "Dhamalastic", a combination of the Hindi dhamaal which means "fun", and the English "fantastic". In contrast, the Tamil dub which airs in the same country just translates this to "super" or "awesome".

BoBoiBoy Galaxy introduces more human aliens as the main gang take the fight to space. Some introduced in the first season alone are Sai, Shielda and Ramenman, who all appear just as human as the heroes they work with, barring some facial markings (for Sai and Shielda) and a hairdo shaped like a block of noodles (for Ramenman).

Big Ball of Violence: When Fire and Water meet each other for the first time and accidentally sabotage each other's attack, they argue to the extent of Water putting up his fists to egg Fire into a brawl. Fire launches himself at Water and the result is one to two clouds of dust with the two popping out occasionally. In Galaxy, episode 4, Cattus responds to Gopal's insults by scratching him, surrounding them with a brown cloud of dust and floating Cross-Popping Veins. Similarly, in episode 5, after Gopal turns the attacking robots' bodies into rattan wood, Cattus viciously bites them to eat the baskets, and his enlarged form, with a robot in his mouth, pops out of the big cloud of dust a few times.

Mundane Utility: BoBoiBoy uses his Elemental Split to do tasks like making deliveries. This is a bit downplayed as he only uses his base forms whenever he splits to do chores, but an exception to this is Season 3 Episode 11, when he helps Gopal clean his house with his evolved forms. BoBoiBoy Wind also helps set up a sign for Tok Aba's store with his ability of flight. In an attempt to defame BoBoiBoy, Adu Du and Probe try to lampshade this by pointing out that it was an unfit way for BoBoiBoy to use his powers.

Clothespin Nose Plug: When Adu Du creates the Onion Monster to make the heroes cry so he can get the DNA of BoBoiBoy's tears, Yaya and Ying are the first to find a way to fight it without tearing up — by nipping their noses with clothespins and wearing goggles. When they explain that they learned this from chopping onions at home, the Onion Monster starts becoming scared of them.

Clock of Power: Ochobot is the alien Power Sphera of manipulation who granted "power bands/watches" to the heroes: BoBoiBoy's watch lets him manipulate the elements, Yaya's can manipulate gravity, Ying's can control speed/time, Gopal's can transform the molecules of any non-living object, and Fang's watch grants shadow powers. Each of these digital superpowered wristwatches match their user's color themes, glow when in use, and can be used as communication devices.

Human Aliens: The final episodes of the original series reveal that one of the main cast, Fang was a Human Alien all along when Captain Kaizo (his older brother) visits Earth. Their only distinctions from humans are their red irises and raven-colored spiky hair. Gopal and Lieutenant Lahap (Kaizo's lackey) lampshade this: BoBoiBoy Galaxy introduces more human aliens as the main gang take the fight to space. Some introduced in the first season alone are Sai, Shielda and Ramenman, who all appear just as human as the heroes they work with, barring some facial markings (for Sai and Shielda) and a hairdo shaped like a block of noodles (for Ramenman).
