While the other three works all have comparatively large casts of at least six characters with numerous supporting characters appearing, Konosuba only has four main characters, with four supporting characters and a minor character appearing so far.note Chris the Thief Girl/The Goddess Eris as a student of Class 1, Vanir the former Demon General as the teacher of Class 1, Yunyun as the (possibly) only member of Class 3, Wiz as one of the Nurses, and the Ruffian as a stall vendor. While the other three works have largely managed to form inter-class friendships with other works, Konosuba's cast is largely The Friend Nobody Likes, due to their eccentricities putting many of the other characters off or annoying them, in particular Aqua's overzealous attempts to purify the Overlord class. While the other three works all have characters highly skilled in their own worlds, typically in high positions of power, the cast of Konosuba are run of the mill adventurers struggling to get by, with an extreme party imbalance.

Ainz has another such moment in Episode 16 when he uses his Time Stop spell to try and cheat on the test, only to discover that Aqua, Tanya, and Subaru turn out to be completely immune to it. note Aqua is immune because she is a Physical God, Tanya because Being X also halts time in the same way to converse with her, and Subaru because his abilities work by rewinding time. Naturally, this experience visibly unnerves him, as Time Stop is an 10th tier spell that almost no one in his world can use, and he is prompted to quickly dispel it before any of the unaffected individuals learn that he was the one casting the spell all along.

The main characters of the four light novel franchises (Kazuma Satou, Ainz Ooal Gown, Tanya von Degurechaff, Subaru Natsuki) have all been through various degrees of extreme hardship that could drive most people insane, making the Isekai Quartet world something of a respite from their unusual lives. Given Japan's general social stigma against therapy, the school setting is a way to give the characters much-needed mental recovery while allowing them to retain their public dignity. Kazuma was the Only Sane Man of his group and also rather lazy. As a result, his patience often wore out and he was less successful than most isekai heroes. Isekai Quartet gives him a somewhat easier, but more structured, lifestyle so that he may gradually learn patience while forming friendships with others outside his own circle, who each have their own dysfunctional personality flaws. When Tanya disciplines Kazuma in Episode 10, this can be seen as hardline therapy sometimes used for "problem" patients. Ainz has been Slowly Slipping Into Evil partly because of the Nazarick NPCs and his undead body, despite benevolent intentions. Isekai Quartet gives him the opportunity for self-reflection, friendship with others from Earth and a chance to distance himself somewhat from the Nazarick denizens, who gradually form their own friendships with members of other casts. Ainz's discovery of Aqua's ability to harm him in Episode 2 could be seen as a downplayed Humble Pie moment, bringing down his pride after being considered invincible on his own world. This is taken a step further when he sees that Aqua, Subaru and Tanya are all immune to his Time Stop, a 10th tier spell that few people in own world could cast. These events allow him to see the other people of Isekai Quartet as more like equals, which is often considered necessary to facilitate real-life mental rehabilitation. It's also worth noting that Ainz was never able to finish middle school where he came from, so this could be seen as an opportunity to complete his education. Tanya's life was one of war and hardship, in addition to being constantly hounded by a deity who seeks to break her mind. Of the four main heroes, Tanya was the most lonely because she trusted no one with her true origins, had no real friends and had no life outside her military duties. Isekai Quartet gives her a much-needed break while also giving her the opportunity to befriend others from modern-day Japan, most notably Ainz. Tanya is also able to establish a rapport with Demiurge, who could rival her in cunning, resourcefulness and sheer evil. As a further benefit, Tanya is now also able to eat modern-era food again, considerably improving her morale. Subaru has lived a life of near-constant failure, embarrassment and especially violent death, making him something of an emotional wreck who just manages to carry on through sheer determination and hope. Isekai Quartet gives him a peaceful life unhindered by his past and the chance to befriend those who don't know or care about his life in Re: Zero. Thanks to the No-Harm Requirement of Isekai Quartet, Subaru can truly relax for the first time in a long while, much like how a Shell-Shocked Veteran slowly heals from PTSD in a therapy group.

Their personalities are so warm up that the other characters (except Aqua) don't even realize they are evil and racist monsters, and Kazuma even hits Aqua for attacking Ainz thinking she was just being racist towards him for being an undead. Justified, since even as a parody or a comedy crossover, there is no way any of the characters from the other shows (including other villains such as Tanya) would get along with monsters whom have committed heinous crimes like mass murder and torture, specially when said monsters are heavily racists toward humans. Petelgeuse shows up in season 2, and in contrast to Re Zero where he's a villain, here is he is just written as eccentric.

This is taken a step further when he sees that Aqua, Subaru and Tanya are all immune to his Time Stop, a 10th tier spell that few people in own world could cast. These events allow him to see the other people of Isekai Quartet as more like equals, which is often considered necessary to facilitate real-life mental rehabilitation. It's also worth noting that Ainz was never able to finish middle school where he came from, so this could be seen as an opportunity to complete his education.

Albedo takes a liking to Rem when she shares her belief in love regardless of how long you've known a person. Tanya and Ainz become good friends after discovering they were both former salarymen from Japan, having a private talk where they shared interests and experiences of their first life, and just generally feeling at ease at having someone to talk to about this. Tanya enjoyed the talk so much that she left smiling up into the next morning. When Ainz was worried about taking a test (which he didn't know how to answer) and caught Tanya looking at him, he bemoaned and felt hurt about how highly Tanya respects him. Tanya and Demiurge develop a bond with one another when selected as members of the Disciplinary Committee not only due to their mutual liking and respect of Ainz, but also because they agree that the classroom needs a detailed structure and list of rules first before anything else. They develop such a respect for each other that after stopping Kazuma from peeking on the girls in swimsuits, they end up ignoring Kazuma due to constantly praising each other and being humble about praise from the other person. It becomes inverted with Kazuma and Subaru however. Although they initially took great joy in finding one another, once they explained their respective situations, Kazuma becomes enraged and declares Subaru his enemy after discovering that not only does he live in a mansion, but he's also surrounded by beautiful girls, two of which are maids and one of whom has feelings for him, gets to go after the girl he loves, and all the while declaring his life hard which Kazuma can't comprehend. To be fair to Subaru, he can't explain why his life is hard lest the person who hears it dies. Beatrice becomes less cold to Mare when they're both Librarians, saying there is something relaxing about Mare. She also insists on accompanying him to school when they meet up, all in her usual Tsundere way. Felt and Chris are shown to be friends in Episode 16 because they were thieves but if you know their backgrounds, they're completely different. Felt is a lost princess who hates the wealthy due to growing up poor and became a thief to survive while Chris is actually the goddess Eris who due to being a goddess of fortune has made her world very capitalist and is a thief as a way to relax from her goddess' responsibilities. Megumin and Pandora's Actor... though they're less of an Odd Friendship and more of a friendship that was completely inevitable. When they first interact face-to-face, Pandora's Actor spends most of the conversation admiring Megumin, and Megumin acts prideful and plays up her Chuunibyou persona, before acting star-struck when Pandora's Actor starts speaking German. It eventually leads to Megumin declaring Ainz worthy to be her Rival, as Pandora believes Ainz has the same interests as him and told Megumin as much. Megumin and Emilia both seem to get along very well despite their very different personalities; Megumin is loud and boastful while Emilia is quiet and humble. It's likely due to the fact that they have the same voice.

Not only was she unaffected by Ainz's Despair Auranote Which can make the Lvl 100 Floor Guardians sweat and didn't even notice Demiurge's Command Mantranote Which can instantly control beings under Lvl 40 and put everyone just over that under great pressure, but when she got angry at Aqua, she released an aura of magical power that was likened to an earthquake and noted by Ainz to have the power to exceed that of an 8th Tier Spell by Yggdrasil's standards. When Ainz tried to cheat on a test using Time Stop, a 10th Tier Spell, she was completely immune to that as well. And likewise when she able to block a magical dodgeball that was fueled and had the combined properties of Ainz's "Nuclear Blast" and Megumin's "Explosion" with a magic barrier powered by Being X's Blessing, though the ball broke before she had to fully endure the attack.

Remember, Albedo and Shalltear are the two strongest Floor Guardians, with the latter being created specifically to kill Ainz. It's a mystery why the two of them struggle to break out of her chains unless Rem is actually much stronger than she's letting on.
