Friendly Foreign Exchange Student Spider-Man! is a crossover story written by Zaru and co-written by LD1449 and IKnowNothing. Taking place just after Peter Parker, Spider-Man, turned to dust at the end of Avengers: Infinity War. Here, instead of simply ceasing to exist, he awakens on a rooftop in the world of My Hero Academia (MHA for short) at the very beginning of that story. Peter proceeds to work towards becoming a hero in a world similar to but very different from his own, where many of the things that once held him back simply do not exist anymore. Even when he labels both Izuku and All Might as liars for trying to reassure him with facts that go against what he believes of them, Midoriya is actually somewhat scared when, aside from the customary "stupid Deku", Kacchan flat-out pleads (usage of "please" included) him, in tears, to just go away. Heck, one scene even sees Bakugou staring at a drop of his sweat he holds in his palm in a way his train of thought describes as "feeling useless for all of his power" but the regular narration describes as "wondering whether or not to use that little drop of nitro to blow his brains out". Underestimating Badassery: Many of the potential up-and-coming students at the beginning of the UA Entrance Exam write off Peter as a non-threat simply due to him being an American foreigner. It's only after witnessing him using the Iron Spider suit during the practical portion of the entrance exam that they clam up. On separate occasions, both Bakugo and Todoroki believed that Peter wouldn't be as effective without the Iron Spider suit, and both were looking forward to wiping the floor with him at the UA Sports Festival. It's only after Peter scores first place in the obstacle race by a massive margin, that the realization kicks in. Bakugo finds it funny that Pony thinks she has a chance against him. Not only does she manage to take him by surprise, she also very nearly beats him with a surprise chokehold during their match in the tournament portion of the Sports Festival; it's only through an extreme desperation move that Bakugo wins the match. While most pro-heroes admire Peter's raw talent and Superpower Lottery, some of them think that Peter is a showoff who would be The Ace everyone thinks he is if he wasn't such a clown and a motormouth, unaware that it is Peter's way of coping with tense situations. Aizawa, in particular, thinks that he is arrogant and could be a liability because of this, his high stats being the one thing keeping Peter enrolled. Mirko thinks that he is completely lacking in ambition, something that is sabotaging his own future as well as making the rest of his classmates look stupid by comparison; downplayed in later chapters when Mirko realizes that Peter really is that good and that's why he has the time to quip and joke while fighting most enemies. | |

Monoma finds himself unable to copy his powers and Word of God also confirms that Eraser Head's Quirk would be completely ineffective on him. Retconned ever-so-slightly later, where Peter's "Quirk" is labelled during the Sports Festival as a Mutation-Type (which Aizawa's Quirk also doesn't work on.) To be fair, that's just what people are assuming his powers are, and it's not like Peter can correct them without getting unwanted attention. The scene begins very similar to the canon version, with Overhaul claiming to be her father and chalking Eri's odd behavior up to childishness. Instead, Sato just chows down on some sugar, activates his Quirk, and immediately body-slams Shinso out of the ring. Ibara overwhelms Momo with her vines and tosses her out of the ring before Momo can make more than one weapon. Likewise, she does the same to Tsuyu in the next round. Despite his best efforts, Sato isn't able to land a single hit on Peter before the Wall-Crawler judo-throws him out of the ring. When Peter and Bakugo fight for first place in the Tournament Arc, Bakugo tries and fails to overwhelm Peter, expending all of his most powerful attacks on Peter before Peter nearly cripples him into submission with two hits. He doesn't even use his web-shooters, having run out of fluid in his previous fight. It does not take long for his teachers and classmates to figure out that Peter is purposefully prolonging the fight just to make a point. Later, during the Hero Killer's arc, Peter and Izuku vs Stain. Culture Clash: When Peter first starts out, he gets in trouble for stepping into a hero vs. villain fight, as this world has strong laws against unregistered heroism. This is a realistic result of two hundred or so years of Quirks and powers being publicly-accepted things and an attempt to prevent unqualified people from getting in the way of professionals. Whereas in Peter's home universe, people with powers and abilities have only really come into prominence in the past ten years with the debut of Iron Man. (While there were heroes such as Captain America, Captain Marvel, and Ant Man, who did appear before Iron Man, they were either kept hidden from the public, deliberately kept themselves out of the public eye, or were one-offs.) As such, the MCU world doesn't have laws to deal with powered vigilantes yet. What makes this trope worse for Peter is that he can't speak a single word of Japanese – it takes him a year to be able to speak it fluently and prepare for the UA exams, and even then he still stumbles over cultural norms of the Japanese people. When Spider-Man made his debut into the MCU, Iron Man was immediately chewed out for bringing a kid on the cape scene, and Tony himself felt a mite ambivalent over it. By contrast, the Quirkverse openly encourages Peter's heroic aspirations and gives him a perfectly legal way to do a career out of it. In Japan, bullying isn't viewed as too bad of a problem and is seen as just another thing to deal with while growing up. Peter comes from America, however, where there is a much stronger aversion to bullying, and as such doesn't see Bakugo as "a strong-willed guy with an interesting personality", but as a thug and a Jerkass who torments people and has a personality like a dumpster fire. At one point, Peter gets asked where he got the Iron Spider armor from, and he responds that he got it from his idol. This leads to confusion, as several boys complain that they wish that a cute idol made them cool armor (in Japan, an "Idol" is a type of cute pop star), before Peter clarifies that he meant a different kind of idol (a role model, someone he looks up to and deeply admires). A positive example, from Peter's point of view, is that, in America, the laws against vigilantism are much laxer than in Japan, so a few characters, like Mirko, come to the conclusion that Peter's superior skill comes from doing vigilantism back when he lived in America. Because of a combination of Aizawa's injuries at the USJ causing him to rest instead of doing the post-USJ visits with All might and how much more traumatizing the event was for his students, he comes up with a completely different scenario for the second task of the Sports Festival that winds up being used. Thanks to Peter's help, Izuku figures out how to use Full Cowl before he starts his training with Gran Torino. Because of the boosts in their confidence (from having another English-speaking friend in Pony's case, and getting battlefield experience in Momo's), Pony and Momo take second and third place, respectively, in the obstacle course at the Sports Festival, after Peter. Iida comes in fourth, Izuku fifth, Bakugo sixth, and Todoroki seventh. Thanks to figuring out how to use Full Cowl before the Sports Festival, Izuku puts up a much better fight against Todoroki in the tournament phase, to the point that he actually manages to beat him, albeit at the cost of injuring himself too much to continue to the semi-finals. He also ends the fight far less injured than he would have otherwise, having broken all of the fingers on his right hand and one of his legs as opposed to thoroughly destroying his right arm, thus avoiding the scarring he got from canon. The winners of Sports festival wind up being quite different from canon with Izuku and Ibara coming in third place, Bakugo in second, and Peter taking first place. Because Izuku learned how to use Full Cowling before meeting Gran Torino and showed off his new abilities at the Sports Festival, he doesn't intern under him like canon and instead interns under Edgeshot. Also, Uraraka and Momo choose different heroes for their internships; Uraraka gets the Wild Wild Pussycats, as she wants to specialize on rescue operations, and Momo chooses Yoroi Musha, to improve her battle proficiency. As stated above, several pro-heroes get to appear much sooner than in canon, many of them also getting expanded roles. Among the main examples is Mirko, who becomes Peter's mentor, and Gang Orca, as Katsuki and Pony's. Because of the different internships, Midoriya isn't in Hosu during the Nomus' attack, and Todoroki sticks to working with his father's sidekicks, so none of them arrives to rescue Iida and Native from Stain. Instead, Yoroi Musha and Momo arrive in the nick of time, rescuing Iida, but not Native. Because of all the life-or-death situations they'd been involved, 1-A's final exam is changed from Battles 2-on-1 Against A Teacher to Hero Teams Attending Emergencies, with several students teaming up to face a particular emergency (Hostage Situation, Capturing Villains, Natural Disaster) in order to test both Teamwork and Individual Performance instead of just Battle Abilities. It's later revealed that 1-B's finals were similar, with the emergency simulations being Bomb Retrieval and Disarming, Infiltration of a Villain Lair, and Crime Scene Investigation. Due to the USJ Nomu being killed by students, Dabi and Toga aren't too impressed with Shigaraki, and they get an instant, mutual dislike of him.
