The Borderworld is a shared setting of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic fanfiction stories created by DannyJ. In the vein of the Triptych Continuum and similar settings, stories in the Borderworld don't generally change anything from canon, but instead fill in the gaps and build on what canon already established. The setting also notably incorporates many elements from the official IDW comics and the rest of MLP:FiM's expanded universe. What is particularly special about it is that they can not only be enjoyed separately as their own, but also as parts of a bigger story.Advertisement:propertag.cmd.push(function() { proper_display('tvtropes_content_3'); })It takes heavy inspiration from Norse Mythology, with Equestria's world being the Midgard of this setting's own Nine Realms. It is called the Borderworld because of the abundance of portals and gateways to other dimensions that saturate it, and the ease with which pocket dimensions can spring up around it (to the point that the Nine Realms themselves were created by accident).Borderworld stories generally focus on adventure and the larger cosmology of the world, particularly the Eternal War that Discord and several other gods fight in, but they can vary greatly in tone, genre, and scope.
