One hundred and seventy years after the Park's trial run, Dinosaurs and Humans have made peace. The Wars are over, and we have killed our enemies by making them our friends.Pity that we have some new enemies appearing over the world of New Sorna because we were messing around with a dormant relay...Looks like it's time to show the galaxy why you don't take on an alliance sixty-five million years in the making.Tyrant Kings is a collaborative effort to merge together the settings of Jurassic Park and Mass Effect. The current result is an absolutely awesome Fusion Fic, where the word "restraint" has no meaning. It includes such gems as Sapient Dinosaurs, jetpack velociraptors, Pro-wrestling biotics, transhumanistic salarian monsters, triceratops admirals, and the first human Spectre raised by a Tyrannosaurus Rex. In short, this fic is a real gem. While there has only been one chapter thus far, it does contain a collection of snippets and codexes that flesh out the setting. Now available on fanfiction.net! Only has the first chapter, and none of the omakes, snips, or discussion. The thread has been locked for inactivity since 2016, and that first and only chapter was posted in 2015, making the story a Dead Fic.For another "Mass Effect meets Everything's Better with Dinosaurs" fanfic, see Mesozoic Effect.

The Dreaded | |
Tyrant Kings / Fan Fic / int_2ae29c0d | comment |
The Dreaded: Troodons. Nothing inspires more fear than these little horrors, particularly how they reproduce. They render a victim braindead with poison and then tear open the abdomen to lay their eggs, which will later hatch and eat the host. The worst part of this is that the victim is still alive and usually aware of what's happening! And of course, Cerberus just had to make them even deadlier.

Uplifted Animal: An accidental example. Due to the inclusion of Raven DNA in their original creation, Ceratopsians (and other animals similar, such as Triceratops, Protoceratops, etc), Raptors (and similar species, such as Dinonychus, Microraptor, and Utahraptor), T-Rexes, Dilophosaurs, and Pterodactyls are all sapient and have been since the original park. Averted with Troodons, they were sentient all along. Indominus' are also sentient. Thanks to genetic experiments on planet 259-Zeta-736, there are what are known as "Omega Varren." Shepard chose to let them go, as they were as Sapient as a small child.

Badass Family: The Shepards. Stephen Shepard is descended from Owen and Claire, and the descendants of Blue's family basically consider the two families to be one. Shepard's mom, aunt, and uncle are the children of a clone of the original Rexy, and only abandoned her kids because she was abducted by the Collectors, who were investigating this new race using the relays. His aunt Cordelia works with the Interstellar Red Cross as a combat medic, and still has time to raise three little children of her own and have a loving husband. His uncle Alexander is basically Father Alexander, except that he's a tyrannosaurus and not supernatural. And his mom is an Admiral in charge of a dreadnought.

Genetic Engineering Is the New Nuke
Tyrant Kings / Fan Fic / int_5ec15a79 | comment |
Genetic Engineering Is the New Nuke: Dear merciful God, this is true. Never mind the fact that humans were reviving extinct species way back in the late 90s, the Terran Systems Alliance has basically mastered genetic engineering to the point that the problems that plagued the original park are a thing of the past. One of the reasons the Council fears the TSA is exactly this- if they're capable of doing something as complex as resurrecting millions-of-years-extinct races, they could be capable of unleashing specially tailored bioweapons, as the Salarians did to the Krogan. The Bio-Wars revolved around engineering better and better weapons. The Blind Terror Virus (which is actually a fungus), which was one of the elements of the Purging of Khar'shan, definitely invokes this.

Bio-Augmentation | |
Tyrant Kings / Fan Fic / int_6651bba7 | comment |
Bio-Augmentation: Everyone in the TSA has altered their genetic code in some way. For humans, one such change is that they've cleared out the junk DNA clogging up their sense of smell. This allows them to be one of the few races to actually hold a conversation with the elcor without them having to state what they are feeling. Averted in the case of Joker- he still has Brittle Bone syndrome, as while the TSA might be amazing with genetics, there are things that even they haven't solved yet.

Raptor Attack: One codex introduces an all-raptor military unit called the 212th Nublarian Combat Regiment, though it's more commonly referred to as the Velociwreckers. Too Dumb to Live
Tyrant Kings / Fan Fic / int_b58b4e3c | comment |
Too Dumb to Live: Tiamat (the rechristened Cerberus) never seems to learn from their past mistakes when trying to create new biological abominations. It's honestly amazing they're still functioning at all. Plenty of slavers think there's big money trading in saurians. What they always seem to forget is that the saurians not only are generally bigger than they are, they are just as intelligent as any sapient race and many are strictly carnivorous. And they won't have any qualms about eating would-be slavers. Virtually everyone agrees that the Patrol Commander in charge of the group that attacked the TSA vessels, which started the Relay 314/First Contact War, was this, as not only did he pass judgement on a race that had no concept of the laws they were breaking, but started a war with said race. Thankfully, he was killed fairly early on in the conflict.

Shout-Out | |

Shout-Out: Every race has their own version of Swedish Meatballs. Stephen's Aunt is named Cordelia, and married a male rex named Alexander... but since there's already an Alexander in the family, he goes by Xander, a shout-out to Buffy. Their kids are named after Power Rangers terms: Eltar, Zed, and Moltor. Stephen's Uncle is basically a T-Rex expy of Father Alexander. Except without the supernatural powers. And is a dinosaur. The main class of battleship for the TSA is a nearly word-for-word description of Halcyon-class cruisers from Halo. The martian member of the First Contact diplomacy group is named John Carter. An Asari quotes their version of Zap Brannigan. Blue has a brother named Red who went into entomology and wants to "catch em all"

Implausible Deniability: The 4th Dinochrome Brigade's commanding officer "relocates" his men to New Sorna to fight the Turians because their practice site was in poor condition. Furthermore, he "lost" some equipment that the local forces could use.

Adaptation Species Change: Quite a few human characters in the Mass Effect Canon get changed to various Saurians Ashley Williams becomes a Raptor going by the name Ak'ley. Hannah Shepard (Commander Shepard's mother) is a T-Rex. Shepard himself is still Human (adopted), though there is a Rex by the name of Herds-Prey-Beasts who was the Butcher of Torfan. Udina and Hacket are both Dilophosaurs. Udina is infamous for having spat poison at a Batarian Ambassador and blinding him after he made a comment about how delicious saurian eggs were. Anderson is a Martian (AKA a Prothean), as is James Vega.
