Fairy Without Wings begins with the story of Kallen Kozuki, a 17 year old mage who has been kicked out of two guilds, and witnessed the fall of a third. She's come to Fiore's town of Loreon to meet a mage consultant that might help her with her inability to control her power, which leads her to have the opportunity to join the mage guild known as Knightmare Frame. Huh. Sounds familiar.Created by draconichero21, Fairy Without Wings is a crossover between Code Geass and Fairy Tail. It takes the established characters from the Code Geass canon and translates them into the Fairy Tail universe with their personalities mostly intact. Lelouch is still a Magnificent Bastard. Suzaku is still good to a fault at times, and Cornelia will still tear off the head of anyone who dares harm her sister Euphemia. However, now they are all mages. In a guild known as Knightmare Frame, they are an ally guild to the famous - maybe even infamous - guild Fairy Tail, but their journey is not one of rainbows, sunshine and butterflies.Word of God is that Fairy Without Wings was created to show points in the mage world of Earthland that should come with the territory of such a world, but that Mashima flat out ignores or only barely hints at existing. These are things that Lelouch would normally be seen doing on a regular basis.It does a surprisingly good job mixing the characters of both universes and, much like Fairy Tail itself, while the story starts with Kallen's introduction to her new guild in a parallel to Lucy, the story clearly evolves into arc based storytelling much like the series proper.The third fanfic created by draconichero to get its own tropes page and probably the best written out of the three. While Soul Chess has recently received some Creator Backlash, while still being all in all being considered a good read by most, draconichero is more satisfied with this fic thus far than the majority of Soul Chess. | |

For Erubay, she's a bit justified considering that humans broke her wings and rendered her incapable of flying, which is why she spends all of her time in the ocean and she has lived for so long that her ideology seems to reflect that of Zeref's in regards to seeing how disgusting human culture can be. According to Word of God humans are this way towards demons, but this is sort of a Justified Trope in-universe given how many demons trick and kill humans. Always a Bigger Fish: Chapter 236, and just the Guild War arc in general, plays hard ball with this trope. Grand General Karn was always a big fish and is the stronges in Fiore, but he's second-in-command to Ishgar's strongest Rune Knight, Yamato Hayabusa. Later, VV becomes so almighty to the point of calling himself god, it takes Acnologia showing up to prove that this trope is still in play. But even that isn't the end to this trope's usage. The immediate chapter after Acnologia shows up, Irene Belserion shows up and proves she can hold her own against even the mighty black dragon. VV is still the smaller fish against this new arrival. And he winds up dying to her when he realizes just how outclassed he was. However, then [Irene leaves the battlefield. This then allows another fish in the pond to start causing trouble: currently bonkers out of her gourd, Kallen due to trying to merge her demon soul and dragon soul together while under the effects of Mass Hysteria. Irene had kept her sedated, for lack of a better term, while she was in the area, but once she left, Kallen resumed turning the newly restored Era into the aftermath of a nuclear bomb going off. And even then, Natsu is being utilized as the counter to this big fish by being hyped up on Etherion, courtesy of Lelouch, so he can use Dragon Force. Good god, Rube Goldberg machines are less complex than this. | |

Wham Episode: Given this is draconichero we knew this had to happen eventually. Remember that trip Anya and Gino went on? Well it gets brought up again at the end of chapter 26 and guess what they found? Wendy Marvell who will now be joining Knightmare Frame as opposed to Fairy Tail. Considering how major of a role she plays in canon, this is kind of a big deal. It happened again. Chapter 41: Mirajane is brainwashed and crazy. Everyone wondered what Edolas Lelouch was going to be like when he wasn't encountered at Edolas Knightmare Frame. No one suspected that he was a Wheelchair Woobie. Chapter 66: Dark Blade turns out to be Edolas Nunnally Chapter 74: Marianne gets arrested by taking the blame for Lelouch as Zero and it turns out that she's known that he's Zero the whole time. We also get our first introduction to Morrigan Ley Fair, Zeref's sister, albeit all we see are her Occult Blue Eyes. The Sindel arc could probably just count as an entire Wham Arc. We have: Jellal's mother Margaret. What? She's evil? What? She sold Jellal into slavery, deliberately even? What? Jellal was an accident caused by her rape, of which she is not the victim? Jesus, lady. What is wrong with you? The "great evil" mentioned at the beginning of the arc turns out not only to be the arc's titular character, but also the very mage that not only founded Airy's guild, but also former Fairy Tail and the first thing she does is beat down Gildarts!. And then the very next chapter her origin story turns her from an unholy terror into simply a sympathetic villain. And then last but certainly not least you have Morianna Feathermane who turns out to have Erza's parents' blood on her hands. Chapter 100 has an unsettling implied reveal Zeref is under the influence of Morrigan's geass. Chapter 103 has the first appearance ever of Morrigan Ley Fair Zeref's older sister. She is also clearly not as nice as originally fathomed. Chapter 106 has us meet Alysha Fateburn, widow to Travis Fateburn, Jellal's father and in the same scene we find out that Kallen is a half-Etherious. Alysha is also one of the Brides of Zeref, a concept that hasn't been brought up since the Theater arc. Chapter 147 was already awesome given Lelouch and Erza share their first kiss and decide to go steady, but then it shakes up the status quo in a way that doesn't become this trope until the logistics sink in. Draconic Hero writes so close to The Stations of the Canon that he only goes away from them when it suits the plot and not because he thinks his way is better than Mashima. Many readers definitely expected Fairy Tail's Fourth Guildmaster Bisca to relinquish control to Makarov after he failed to make Gildarts Fairy Tail's 5th guild master. Except that's not what happens. Not only does Gildarts take the position he's offered, but Makarov actually retires. On top of that, this is only accepted by Gildarts on the condition that Makarov will coach the sixth guild master, who Gildarts believes is far more qualified to command Fairy Tail than himself: Erza. Not to be outdone by previous examples, we have chapter 182: where we get the reveal that Alice is Natsu's older sister and raised him until he was old enough for Igneel to take care of him on his own. She even named him. When the Guild War arc was announced, a lot of fans were unsure how draconichero was going to get the various guilds involved in a massive conflict. Chapter 210 not only reveals the method, but blindsided a lot of fans: Fairy Tail and Knightmare Frame are now blacklisted so any further guild activity they take will cause them to become dark guilds. The weight of this is because while this was constantly an overarching threat in canon, it actually happened in this story. Chapter 248 is one of these for most of the chapter. Minerva and Sorano get taken out offscreen with absolutely BRUTAL injuries. Yukino, Sting and Rogue show later exactly how that went down against characters clearly inferior to the tiers Sting and Rogue fought during the Tartaros arc in Fairy Tail's canon. And after that, Fighting Spirit gets completely wrecked by Tartaros to the point of Total Party Kill. And then CC shows up and it's revealed that she isn't just related to Morrigan. She is Morrigan. Chapter 251 may just top all of these: Fairy Tail loses a major fight. And not even against Tartaros' best like the Five Demon Dragons. The Zombie Squad utterly mopped the floor with them. The author called the chapter a harsh slap to the face. He's not wrong! When fans learned that Roxanne would be fighting all of Fairy Tail a second time, fans were already calling Natsu showing up and kicking her ass. That...didn't happen. Not only does Natsu never show up, but Roxanne mops the floor with every member, even a newly powered up Mirajane. Many reviews to chapter 258 completely ignore Mira's power up in favor of Roxanne's utter wreckage of the guild. While this example has left very unhappy fans, Minerva's death in chapter 260 is one no one saw coming. | |

Foreshadowing: Milly’s own family issues foreshadow similar issues in Cornelia’s own arc. Kallen also mentioned when she once used Breaker X in one of the earlier chapters. In chapter 9 we learn why she was scared of the technique previously. We know that Kallen’s third guild died because she lost control of her powers. We get to see how in chapter 9. During Cornelia’s flashback it’s already been established that her darling older sister, Estellise, is going to die at some point. We're just waiting for the other shoe to drop as it were. Oh god does it not make things any less heartwrenching when said shoe drops though. If you’re paying attention you should be able to see the twist that Selina is Suzaku’s Missing Mom coming. Word of God is that the ending quote of chapter 44 is Foreshadowing of a later arc and it should be pretty obvious at this point that Mary Markov is Edolas Marianne. And now we know why Suzaku betrayed Knightmare Frame. In hindsight, it becomes obvious that draconichero was building towards Sindel being the Big Bad of her arc the whole time, but you don't really know that the first time reading it. Sindel regaining part of her memory and having a portion of her seal undone in the battle against Rustyrose should come as a shock to no one given how much it was discussed during the arc. Chikara's true nature and subsequently the true nature of Shimon's magic was subtly hinted at when she drank Chandra and Orochi under the table being a spirit, she would logically not be able to get drunk. Asura Vs Kagura in general was hinted at twice before it actually happened later in the arc. True to form, draconichero was about as subtle as a hammer with regards to something bad going to happen to Nivea and/or in general at the end of the Rise to Power arc. Nivea dies at the end of the arc. All of the Tempting Fate talk of Erza dying throughout the Grand Magic Games arc was building up to Erza's death in Mordred's timeline. There's a moment way earlier on in the story where Lelouch talks about that he would never mess with a magic that he didn't fully comprehend and look what happens when he dicks around with Skeleton Key. The reveal that Morrigan and CC are the same person has been hinted at for a long time. Let us count the ways: In chapter 2, CC is initially shown with a witch hat and working with a cauldron, likening her to the historical Morgan le Fay, a powerful witch and sorceress. Despite being a main character, CC isn't part of the Oracion Seis arc. Brain who had met her before likely would've been able to identify her immediately. Expy: While there are plenty of blatant copies of characters in this story, some only resemble the character their based on. Take note: Airy Kitsune borrows Ahri's looks, but Airy is The Ditz while Ahri is The Vamp. Sindel started as a Captain Ersatz of Syndra in her initial appearance, but with Character Development sinking in, she's more or less this. Not to mention Sindel's values system is way different given she grew up in Fairy Tail. While Undine keeps up the pirate talk, her background and personality make her too distinct to do anything more than resemble Anne Sirena. Kasumi is actually this of other works done by the same author. Asura Kaimen may resemble Kratos Aurion in personality and appearance, but his other traits such as background and actions clearly contradict his counterpart. As the writer has never played Shining Force, Rena Sianne only borrows Riemsianne La Ves' appearance and nothing more. Alice and Archer are Red Assassin and Shirou Kotomine. However, the goals of both and actions taken by them make them far more of good people than their counterparts. Also, Alice's... behavior is definitely different from Semiramis'. Priscilla Starkwing was created with the idea of being Presea Combatir, but older in terms of appearance and her personality is nothing like Presea's. Jace Highwind and Leana Verundum from Kraken's Eye borrow appearances from Jace Beleren and Liliana Vess. However, Jace is a Casanova Wannabe Butt-Monkey, while Leana is decisively far less evil and interested in necromancy. In addition, Nessa Revenati is Nissa Revane. While her sister Kurena blatantly rips off Ryuko, Sakura Menjou more or less simply resembles Satsuki Kiryuin. From the Rune Knights: Bolt Naikara and Peshkatz Fireman are this of Raiden and Jetstream Sam. Judas Crossbolt is this of Yhwach and Tony Wolfe is Coyote Stark. Saigara Daishogu resembles Sesshomaru. Sean Exodus borrows his appearance and Warrior Poet nature from Genesis Rhapsody. Siegfried Karn resembles Saber of Black. Yamato Hayabusa's powers and appearance are borrowed from Asura, but he is way to calm to be everyone's favorite Berserker. With how much he lays an utter beating on our heroes and never utters a word, how could Nirix be this trope of anyone other than Doomsday? He's only not a blatant copy given his powers work completely differently and he has a completely different background. Isabella Belserion is based on Tsubaki Yayoi, but time will tell if her story is similar. Any character not listed here is likely a Captain Ersatz. Please carefully consider which is which before adding an entry to this trope or the other one. | |

Happens during the fight against Zero, the leader of Oracion Seis, as Makarov and Marianne show up to bail out our heroes. Gino becomes this in the Edolas arc to Wendy, Lelouch and Kallen Happens during the Nirix arc where it looks like Kagura is about to bite the dust (not really) and Jellal and Rorix show up to save her and the gang from Nirix. During the Envoy From the Future arc, Cobra, Emma and Leaf Valentine all come to the heroes' aid. During the very following chapter, just as all hope seems lost Future Natsu makes a grandstanding entrance and delivers an epic punch to Mordred's face. While not precisely heroes, the Garou Knights show up to help Phoenix Grave against Cracked Gemstone. Lucy keeps ending up on the receiving end of this trope in chapter 224. By no means is she as close to death as some other examples, but she seems to have the devil's luck getting helped out by allies whenever she starts to get in a pinch. In fact, this trope remains persistent with Lucy on the receiving end throughout the Guild War arc. At least until Bismarck and Ushiora come into play. By the time help does arrive, Lucy has long since passed out from fatigue. By that same token, counting every instance this trope comes into play in the Guild War arc would take too damn long. An epic one in chapter 236 when Irene Berserion descends onto the battlefield in dragon form and not only heals Erza's injuries, she injures Acnologia. She then proceeds to kill VV. | |

The quote at the end of that chapter said it all Chapter 100. Margaret corrupts the Tenrou Tree—she makes it work for Grimoire Heart as opposed to Fairy Tail—and Erza is the only one within spitting distance of stopping her and is the only one with the power to do so that isn't preoccupied or unconscious. Not to be outdone by previous examples, chapter 191, appropriately titled Ultimate Despair, has the closest the series has come thus far to a Near-Villain Victory and really brings about a sense of hopelessness and dread with even main characters looking like they're about to bite it until Natsu comes from the future [[Dynamic Entry and punches Mordred in the face, once again sparking the light of hope in everyone]]. The narration even lampshades this example saying how just when things are at their darkest, light will eventually seep through. | |

Brick Joke: In chapter 36, Cornelia tries to cure Gray of his stripping habit. This goes about as well as one would expect. This trope comes into play when her first attempt to cure Gray involves showing him a picture of Natsu in a Speedo. When Gray later strips down after she tries duct tapping his clothes to his body, Gray is wearing a speedo instead of boxer shorts. And then during a debate later in the chapter over posters for the upcoming play, Tohdoh's idea is Jeremiah wearing a speedo. During the Naval Battle Jeremiah wears a speedo. The author lampshades the use of this trope in chapter 48 by tossing a brick into orbit saying that that will make sense in about a hundred chapters. The brick hits him on the head at the end of chapter 161 making this a literal example of this trope, but also because Lelouch and Erza once again get kicked out of a restaurant for beating up a sleaze bag trying to grope the exact same waitress from chapter 48. Lucy being absent from the Edolas arc. In the first chapter of the Yawgmoth Island arc, Sherry mentions that she wouldn't trust Gino with her pet goldfish. Gino points out she doesn't have a goldfish. In the last chapter of the arc, it's implied said goldfish were eaten by Angelica. After the first battle of the Guild War arc, Lucy mentions that the council is going to get a bill from Fairy Tail this time given how many times they've sent bills to Makarov's desk for Fairy Tail's wanton destruction. The last chapter of the guild war arc shows that, yes, Lucy was completely serious. Waaaaaaaaaay back in chapter 89, Margaret stated that she wanted to make Rustyrose her jester because he amuses her so. Cut to 237 where he is a jester, but to Morrigan, not Margaret. | |
