Worldfall is a Crossover between Worldwar and Footfall by Thuktun Flishithy.When astronomers discover a fusion flame on the edge of the solar system, the world becomes abuzz with the possibility of alien contact. Confusion and panic begins, however, when several hundred more are discovered coming in from a different direction than the first one. The world finally begins to prepare for invasion when the Cassini probe photographs the first alien spacecraft, revealing a mile-long spacecraft armed to the teeth. Thankfully, humanity will not give up without a fight, and has plenty of time to prepare for the invaders. Soon, a three-way war will begin between the Race, the Fithp, and Mankind.There are two version of the story: the original, released in 2015, and 2nd version, being initially released in 2017 and finished in 2019. The 2nd version differs quite a bit from the original, especially in narrative style (with World War Z-style post-war interviews than the original's timeline listing + conventional narration) and in several details in the story itself.There also exists a thread of the story on Spacebattles, which can be found here. This argument is also why the Race fears mankind- the stuff they pull out on the alien invaders, like Nerve Gas, isn't something you whip up overnight. They realize that these weapons were meant to be used against each other, and that if the humans were willing to do such horrible things to themselves, what would they be willing to do against them? A minor example, but after the Race was defeated, many of the more contentious governments get overthrown after the Race gave the humans living there a chance to see what it was like not living under oppressive regimes. Even post-Footfall they can still tank the loss of almost two million troopmales at Route 55 and push on with the invasion of the US. Ultimately averted in the case of the Race as a whole. Atvar reveals that the soldiers and colonists that were sent to Tosev represented about ninety percent of the total effort and manpower of the previous two generations of their Empire. For them, sending out all that material made sense- they expected to conquer a world of primitives, and the resource-rich Tosev system would enhance the Empire greatly (Atvar describing the riches in minerals, resources, and energy gain as "The jewel in the Empire's Crown"). Unfortunately, the gamble didn't pay off and now the humans, even without interstellar technology, have the strongest military forces in over a dozen light years. Averted in the case of the Fithp, as General Yeager mentions one of the nightmare scenarios would be an enemy with the numbers of the Race and the tech of the Fithp. But because the Fithp were so few, it made victory much easier. Played straight in terms of humanity. Since they have the home field advantage and everyone is fighting against the various alien races, that's a pool of potential soldiers seven billion strong, easily outnumbering the enemy forces. | |

In the original, the first human-designed spaceships weren't deployed until the Colonization Fleet had already shown up, and the first interstellar journey happened in Homeward Bound, which was well after the Colonization Trilogy. Here, not only is the Colonization Fleet greeted by fifteen human and Fithp ships, but there's already a diplomatic voyage part of the way to Home by the time the colonists arrive. Nuke 'em: Used to an alarming extent during the war. First, the Race detonates several nuclear weapons in Earth's upper atmosphere in an attempt to take out human electronics. It fails to knock the human militaries out, and the Race get a taste of human anti-orbital weaponry when a Russian ICBM destroys one of their starships. When the Fithp arrive in orbit, spacecraft placed in orbit by the US fire a dozen nuclear weapons at their mothership. Most are shot down, but the Thuktun Flishity is damaged enough to warrant a retreat behind the moon for repairs. Straha also attempts this trope when he deposes Atvar, sending killercraft to nuke Rome, Tehran, and several other human cities. Fortunately, all of them are shot down by Fithp orbital lasers and human defenses. Later on in the war, when the Fithp make landfall in India, the government is forced to ask Pakistan and China to launch missiles at the Fithp in order to overwhelm their absurd anti-missile defenses. It works, but Delhi and Mumbai are lost as a result. Finally, nukes start to fly like crazy in the space combat between the Archangel Michael and the invaders. Might be regarded as the Nuclear Option instead. The nuclear exchanges between Race and Human territories is what ultimately drives the Fithp to join the war in the first place; initially, they wanted to sit out the initial battles between the "Winterhome Fithp" and the "Outsider Fithp" and swoop in and take control of whoever was left, but the thought of the war progressing to a point where it would poison Earth with radiation makes them step in. | |

Outside-Context Problem: The invasions in general. Deciphering the languages of the Race and Fithp- literally. Most languages that humans are familiar with have connections to other Earth-based languages, and thus can be figured out. For example, people who speak Romantic languages have a root in Latin, the language of the Roman Empire, and thus languages descended from it (French, Italian, Spanish, etc) have similarities in their construction and word usage. It took years to get the Race's language understood, and that was only because they were able to listen in on inter-ship communications. The Fithp were even harder. The Fithp invasion particularly stands out. While the Race were far more numerous, they didn't have a concept of space-based warfare, and most of their attempts of conquest were conventional- atmospheric fightercraft, tanks, infantry. While coming from Space was unexpected, the way they fought is largely the same as humans have ever since the second world war. The Fithp, on the other hand, started out by blowing up fourteen Race ships and proceeded to orbitally bombard numerous vital installations before even beginning to land. The Race was one for the Fithp. While they had known that there were humans on Earth thanks to the Messages from the Precursors, said messages mentioned nothing about the Race or their client races (Rabotev and Haless). Further, the type of engine the Race uses in their rockets is even more advanced than the Fithp's engines, which made the Fithp worry that the rest of The Race's tech could be equally as advanced. The Race gets two with the two new species encountered. The first that they encounter is when they start getting radio signals from a planet that's supposed to have the most advanced tech be horse-drawn carriages. This causes the leaders of the fleet to wake up early, as well as multiple other types of experts to try to figure out what is happening. Coupled with their extremely regimented thought process, Erewlo openly states that he curled into a ball trying to figure out what to do for two hours, since there wasn't a protocol for "The Primitives have advanced way faster than was thought physically possible." The Fleetlord, when informed, thought that the very idea was a prank his underlings were performing on him. The Fithp were just as bad, as they were another species that was more advanced than the Race that had shown up out of nowhere, and what's more, greeted the Race by blowing their starships out of orbit with advanced weapons. | |
