John enters a subway station a few paces away from two bloody corpses, his own face covered in blood, and no one seems to notice. Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: In the Action Prologue, John has, by the end of the last film, killed a Russian mob boss and his son, along with over a hundred of his men, and, overall, brought The Mafiya in New York to its last legs, over a dog. Viggo's brother is smart enough to accept the truce John offers, just to avoid the further wrath of a guy who killed a guy with a damn pencil. In fact, when John gets there, it looks like Abram is already trying to get out of town just as fast as he can pack his operation up. Played with. As badass as John Wick is, tight spaces and bad guys with automatic weapons means he's going to get shot. A lot. He's saved by his bulletproof suit, although heavily bruised by it. And of course he's not the only one with a bulletproof suit. Following this, no matter how skilled he is — John is still human and eventually the damage does catch up with him. This hits hardest during his return to New York when one of the many assassins out for his bounty manages to nail him with a gut wound, a wound which impairs him until he manages to get safe passage to The Bowery King. Consider that as noted in the Immediate Sequel entry, he still hasn't fully recovered from the first film either. Not wearing a seatbelt and getting into a car crash will throw you around. Killing people with a pencil seems tame compared to other movie heroes but we see how messy and hard it realistically is. It almost makes you wonder why John didn't use his hands. Aurelio says he can fix John's totalled car, but it will take months, maybe years. Much like Perkins in the first movie, Ares is lithe, swift, and skilled... but that doesn't mean too much when someone who has six inches and a hundred pounds on you (and is capable of both taking and dishing out more damage) gets his hands on you in close quarters. Valiant effort though it is, her fight with John is over pretty quick. In the end, the film shows just how wretched life really is for an assassin. You either die getting assassinated or burn the rest of your life fighting off other assassins. If you anger somebody enough, i.e. blowing up his house, putting a hit on him, and just torture him on a personal level, he will get to the point where he will start breaking rules, REALLY important rules, just so he can end your miserable life; In short, rules can't protect you from those willing to break them. After killing Santino, John is excommunicated from the Continental's services and is given an hour's headstart before all of New York's Finest (Assassins) come to collect his head. Despite being a hardened badass, he justifiably starts freaking out since he has no where to go before a legion of killers rain Hell on him. | |

In the next scene, John makes a deliberate Call-Back to this story, noting that the Bowery King now has a similar choice: he can either betray John for an immediate benefit (Santino's $7 million dollar bounty) or stay his hand to let John deal with a longer-term problem (Santino's eventual ambitions for New York). As he did years ago, the Bowery King chooses the forward-thinking option. Likewise, when the Bowery King gives John a gun, the case initially has two magazines of seven bullets each. He hands one to his lieutenant and gives the other to John, saying $7 million only buys him seven rounds.
