Following the lead of a business card he's slipped, Damian finds out about a process called "shedding", which will put his mind in an artificially-grown younger body (Reynolds). Afraid of dying, Damian agrees.Unfortunately, the new body comes with a lot of hallucinations of locations and people. Albright, the head of the shedding process, assures Damian that this is normal and gives him medication to help with it. Damian is convinced there's more to the hallucinations than that. Cue the discovery of a dark secret behind the process of shedding...

Adult Fear: Madeline's daughter is deathly ill, her husband dies, and then he seems to show up alive, but with a completely different personality. This is when she has to grab her daughter and go on the run, spending a lot of her time terrified that they'll be kidnapped or killed. There's also the part at the end where Damian, who she's grown to trust, coldly walks into a room she and her daughter are locked in and begins shooting people. He turns out to be saving her, but she understandably is terrified for their lives. Martin's son died two years before the start of the movie. He used shedding to save the boy's life, but then realizes that it was at the cost of killing another child.

The Atoner: Damian, a ruthless Billionaire tycoon, is this in spades when he finds out the truth. He protects Mark Bitwell's family, teaches Anna how to swim, rescues them, provides them with enough money to live in the Caribbean and dies so that Mark could come back. He also leaves a letter for his estranged daughter to provide her with closure.Advertisement:propertag.cmd.push(function() { proper_display('tvtropes_mobile_ad_3'); })
