The film was initially announced to be released in the February of 2019 with production starting a year before that date, but the start of filming was delayed as a result of rewrites and the film is without a release date. On June 1, Sony removed the release date from the schedule. Later news indicated that while the film isn't cancelled, it won't be released in 2019 because it will film in that year at the earliest. In August 2018, Sony announced that Silver & Black will be canceled in favor of both characters having their own feature films. Black Cat will reportedly be a re-worked version of the Silver & Black script, while the studio searches for screenwriters for Silver Sable.
