Groper — the most unsympathetic of the clinic's staff — has died doing exactly this, saving two lives, and earned a posthumous Medal of Honor. Kane is given a tour of the asylum in the beginning of the film, only to discover that his "guide" is one of the patients. This foreshadows that Kane is himself a patient under the delusion that he's a doctor.
