Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg (b. October 24, 1989), better known as PewDiePie, is a Swedish YouTuber known for his gaming content and comedic formatted videos and shows.Felix owns one of the most subscribed-to and viewed channels on YouTube, with over 111 million subscribers and over 28 billion views across his videos. He was the owner of the single most subscribed-to independentnote Important distinction; he was surpassed by the Indian corporation T-Series in April 2019 channel on YouTube from August 2013 to November 2022, when he was surpassed by MrBeast, and his channel was also the most viewed on the platform from December 2014 to February 2017.After creating his channel in 2010, Felix gained a following for his Let's Plays, mainly of horror games, with cited factors for his videos' appeal including his reactions, recurring characters, Running Gags (namely a hatred of barrels), colorful language, exceptional hamminess, and general bizarre sense of humor. His YouTube career became his main life venture after dropping out of a university business degree due to personal dislike of schoolnote not solely to start his YouTube career, as has been commonly reported and which he once stated would have been a "fucking stupid" idea, although he has stated since that he did it first and foremost out of love for making videos, as there were no prominent gaming YouTubers or means to make money from the website when he started.Felix's channel grew substantially in the following years, becoming one of the fastest-growing on YouTube in 2012 and 2013 before eventually overtaking Smosh as the most-subscribed channel in August of the latter year. Between 2014 and 2017, he diversified his content to include vlogs, sketches, music videos and recurring series. Some of the most popular of these series include Pew Newsnote in which a dizzying number of characters all played by Felix discuss YouTube news (although Felix will also rather conspicuously gives his own serious opinions as well); and that's not even getting into the wider story, Meme Reviewnote where Felix comments on one or several new memes, and LWIAYnote short for Last Week I Asked You; a shameless expy of the Jacksfilms series Yesterday I Asked You (YIAY) where Felix looks at fan-submitted memes on his subreddit. Towards the end of the 2010s and entering the 2020s, Felix would become more reserved online and eventually consider himself semi-retired, only uploading videos for fun.Saying that Felix is a prominent figure on not just YouTube but the Internet — especially for outsiders and media personalities looking in — is an understatement. His prominence has given him the ability to Colbert Bump whatever he chooses to give exposure to, especially if it's obscure, but it has also made him one of the most polarizing YouTubers on the platform for a variety of reasons, especially following a number of serious controversies in the late 2010s.Felix has also been known to collaborate with the higher-ups of his networks. In late 2015, following the announcement of YouTube Rednote now YouTube Premium, a paid subscription service for the site, news broke of Felix starring in a series named Scare PewDiePie, made by the creator and executive producers of The Walking Dead (2010) and revolving around him going through real-life places designed after the horror games he became famous for playing. The first season of the show was released from February to April of 2016, the same year that Felix also initiated his own personal YouTube network under Maker Studios named Revelmode. Both his network and plans to release a second season of Scare PewDiePienote now called Scare PewDiePie: Multiplayer, co-starring Jacksepticeye, and slated to premiere in March 2017 were shut down following a particularly nasty controversy.Felix has also collaborated with studio Outerminds to produce the games PewDiePie: Legend of the Brofist, PewDiePie's Tuber Simulator, and PewDiePie's Pixelings, alongside writing a de-motivational self-help parody book titled This Book Loves You and raising over one million dollars for multiple charities with the help of his fans.His Italian wife, Marzia Kjellberg (née Bisognin), a since-retired creator in the YouTube beauty community, has her own page here. During the playthrough of Condemned: Criminal Origins, crashes caused him to cut the video short twice—in a row. During his No Swear Electric Challenge, he manages to save himself from saying "fuck" via Last-Second Word Swap...only to swap it with another swear ("fine ass bitch"). His Deltarune playthrough had him getting genuinely stumped by Rouxls Kaard's joke puzzle, which is solved by simply pushing a block one tile to the left. | |
