In Medias Res: Most stories are told in this fashion. There are a few exceptions, but don't be surprised if you start reading and are taken to the past by three years in one scene and then back to the present in the next after the narrative's story started after a big event.

Blessed with Suck | |
Anthologies of Ullord / int_3c3f28a5 | comment |
Blessed with Suck: The consecrated are Semi-Divine because of the 3+ gods who have personally given them a literal touch of divinity. This grants them a ton of natural charisma and access to Paeans, meaning their signing voice is how some of them fight. This also gives them Attractiveness Isolation. And many of them are uncertain of who their real allies/friends are, who really loves them, and who is simply drawn to their Magnetic Personality. Additionally, their personality is basically a cluster-hump of whichever gods favored them which can create some insanely clashing traits. For a solid, detailed example: Ariana, an admitted consecrated is favored by: Priti (goddess of desire), Kala (goddess of the arts), Manu (god of knowledge) and Mara (goddess of life and death). Pramod (god of deception) eventually joins the fray. And with Priti and Kala together she is basically worshipped by some of her admirers. With Kala and Manu she is single-minded. With Mara in there as well, she cares deeply for the preservation of life and throughout her life results in a clash between Mara and Priti's influences on her via Break the Cutie: moments (courtesy of Muder Inc:) that push her into territories of What You Are In The Dark:. Also, all of the creepy possibilities of not being able to turn off being charismatic and Magnetic even when you are a child. They are left implied, but it does fall into some manner of Noodle Incident: or implied/assumed traumatizing incident for some of (if not all of) the consecrated characters.

Clap Your Hands If You Believe
Anthologies of Ullord / int_4dbd3706 | comment |
Clap Your Hands If You Believe: This is from a speech given by a god (making it the word of a god) at various points. Pramod thinks that without worship and belief, he and the other gods and divine beings will cease to exist. To prevent that from happening he: Intervenes in the mortal world a lot. Encourages other gods to do the same. Consecrates a lot of mortals. Personally appears to mortals and often gives them tasks in exchange for his favor. Answers the summons some gods receive. This is how magic in general works. Belief and willpower work together to affect the world around the character. Clap Your Hands If You Believe: is why many of the casters of Ullord are strong-willed and would fall under Determinator:.

Anachronic Order | |
Anthologies of Ullord / int_8b6e8d7 | comment |
Anachronic Order: The story order only matters in direct sequels. And some works can spoil the endings of other works. And on top of all that, trying to lay out the timeline of any one story can be a hellscape of words on a page. Especially the longer works. The Crystalline Archipelago: Serene Echoes... Spoils some events and character plots from the Journeying Bard series. Connects the Celestial Sundry works to the rest of the world. Spoils events from the Aubriss domain, despite some of the spoilers being First Scene Twists or events that are foreshadowed. The Myrefall works spoil Ariana's past since she is personally connected to those characters.

Shout-Out: The authors are nerds. There are many. Mara, the goddess of life and death with a happy, bubbly nature is practically an expy of Death of the Endless from Neil Gaiman’s “Sandman” comics. Sylnar, the legendary thief’s tale resembles that of Prometheus with some slight differences adapted to fit Ullord. The Thieves’ Guildhalls cannot be found unless you already know where they are like Isla de Muerta from Pirates of the Caribbean

Blue-and-Orange Morality
Anthologies of Ullord / int_e8e56799 | comment |
Blue-and-Orange Morality: Their works have this in spades. Many territories/countries have differing views of what is normal and what is not. This extends into moral behavior as well. This goes double for the thieves' guild, bards' guild, the Brotherhood of Assassins and independent mini governments run by whomever happens to decide they're in charge. The gods are motivated by wanting to be entertained. The gods see no issues with giving insanely powerful magical abilities to mortals that are good or evil. They care about what is interesting to watch as a whole. The gods' clergy operate under a different morality than the rest of the world. Mara's clergy stand out because most people agree that killing is wrong. But, they kill heretics who mock the goddess of life and death. This includes Necromancers, Assassins and the undead. Pramod's followers are mostly thieves. For the god of deception, this is understandable. And thieves operate under a set of acceptable behaviors. They have a Thieves Cant:, Thief's Code and they do not harm children. Tahir's followers take morality to the extreme. They are often Knight Templar: characters with a hint of Blood Knight:. And they follow the god of virtues. Barbas' followers are often exploitative criminals. They use Barbas' domain of fear to scare off or control their would-be victims. The clerics of Priti, the goddess of desires, can be ambitious to the point of trampling on others' rights and liberties. And this does not really matter to them.
