Cthulhu Armageddon by C.T. Phipps is a Genre Mashup of Weird West, horror, and action set in a post-apocalypse Earth where the Great Old Ones have destroyed the Earth.The books star protagonist, John Henry Booth, and his companion, Mercury Takahashi, as exiles from one of the last remaining city-states left on Earth. The books are set in the Cthulhu Mythos created by H. P. Lovecraft with elements of Robert E. Howard's Hyborian Age.The books tend to zig-zag between Cosmic Horror Story and Lovecraft Lite with the world dying as well as humanity with it but the protagonists carrying on regardless. There is very little that can endanger the Great Old Ones and hope seems to be dwindling in the setting with many people struggling to figure out whether they should carry on with extinction iminent. However, everything below the Great Old Ones seems to be a great deal more vulnerable and some of the characters are able to survive things that would have killed any of HPL's protagonists many times over.The books take a notably Lighter and Softer approach toward race and interactions with the supernatural being more Blue-and-Orange Morality versus wholly malevolent. Beings like ghouls and Deep Ones are noted to be far closer to humanity than some of the more alien creatures currently infesting the Earth. The inhabitants are also far more jaded to the surreal and supernatural than they are in times before eldritch abominations turned the Earth into an alien hellscape.The book series is tied to the Books Of Cthulhu anthology series with many nods towards its authors and characters like Titus Crow and Andrew Doran.
