However, this can be explained by the fact that humans have only explored a tiny part of the galaxy (despite the name of the series) and have only colonized slightly more than 200 worlds. The photonic computer built to run the Sphere is reactivated by humans millions of years later with no worse for wear. To be fair, though, when one builds something the size of a Dyson Sphere, one builds it to last. Otherwise, what's the point? None of this compares to the ancient Emulotti/Evolg devices that still function after over a billion years. That's about a quarter age of the Earth!

The sabotage is partly successful. However, the overloaded fusion engines don't blow up the craft as they were supposed to. Instead, the sheer force of the engine output ends up tearing a hole in space-time, eventually leading to humanity discovering hypersphere.

The resulting explosion vaporized the planetoid, also destroying the Alliance and Colonial fleets. Only 8 Colonial ships survived, and the weapon itself was lost. Then again, many useful Alliance inventions and designs were borrowed by the colonists after the end of the war due to their effectiveness.
