This leads to a Break the Haughty moment when she discovers not only that mages do hold nationalist sentiments, but they are willing to fight and die for them. Compared to their homelands, political power, and race, magic is a minor consideration for them. She finds this as baffling as they likely find her assertion to the contrary.
