To distract and divert, the President inflames racial and class strife, before passing an executive order outlawing firearms. He gave the American populace sixty days to turn in their guns for tax-free market value before ordering raids by DHS "Blackshirts."Then he outright abolishes Congress, preferring to rule by executive order alone.To cover unemployment, every jobless person is offered a government job, with pension and benefits. This causes financial issues, which he solves by laying off a quarter the US armed forces and disbanding the Marine Corps entirely. The last Marine Commandant, General Robert Brownstone, became a public figure and leader of the resistance movement. A peaceful protest turns violent when Obsma's union counter-protestors cross the line and assault the ones circling DC in protest of this tyranny. Brownstone gets himself appointed Secretary of State, and thus in the line of succession when Obsma and his Vice President are both finally impeached.Advertisement:propertag.cmd.push(function() { proper_display('tvtropes_mobile_ad_2'); })Unabated, Obsma declares the formation of a new nation, the Liberal States of America. President Brownstone is conflicted, but ultimately decides to allow it rather than have a destructive civil war. On the News Year Eve announcement of such, a blackout strikes and the crowd panics, Obsma strikes his head and disappears to live as an amnesic hobo for weeks, before vanishing into a state-run hospital and dying, causing Harry Reid to become the first president of the LSA. Blaming the US for the blackout, he allies with Russia and the UN to invade America for reparations and to force nuclear disarmament upon it.President Brownstone makes the decision to end the threat by assassinating the UN Secretary General and the Russian President, Vladimir Puten. The LSA backs down and constructs a massive (and radio-blocking) wall. Reid is dealt with by planting child pornography on his computer, he is arrested in disgrace and former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg becomes the third President for Life.Advertisement:propertag.cmd.push(function() { proper_display('tvtropes_mobile_ad_3'); })A dozen years later, the two largest news networks in the USA and LSA join hands to produce a program comparing and contrasting the lives of two ordinary families in each state, the Smithes and Joneses and ask each questions about recent history, politics and everyday life.When it becomes painfully clear how much more prosperous and free the US is, the LSA sneaks poison into seven school cafeterias in the US, fatally poisoning hundreds of children. The USA retaliates by cancelling the program and using hackers to cut power to homes and businesses throughout the LSA and Russia. In the final book, the LSA and Russia invade once again, to force the US to turn the power back on and pay reparations. | |
