A weird sort of a balancing trope that often gets implemented in works, where in exchange for getting more body strength or more muscular and such, you'd have to sacrifice a proportional amount of intelligence for it. The reverse is true as well, implying that you can't have both at the same time. Sometimes this gets done as some sort of balancing by the author with his characters for whatever reason, other times though, it gets done to keep the status quo of someone who happens to have a Geek Physiques for example and wants to get more powerful but introducing said problem into the equation. League of Super Evil: In one Episode, After being mocked for being weak, Doktor Frogg devises an invention that swaps "brains for brawl", Turning him from a very weak super genius into an unnaturally strong lug who could barely speak. Sure enough causing him to regain his intelligence (as is required later in the episode when they get trapped in an building rigged to explode and only Frogg is smart enough to disable the bomb) undoes the process. | |

Beast (Marvel Comics): Hank McCoy was afraid that this would happen to him after he took his experimental serum and changed into his second look, a blue-furred ape-man. However, this fear was unfounded and he instead gained a boost to his strength and agility while losing none of his brainpower, becoming the posterchild for the Genius Bruiser. In the Mutant X alternate universe, however, this trope was played straight and he turned into the Brute, a being possessing even more physical might than the Beast but with a limited, childlike mind. During his time with X-Force in the late '80s, McCoy briefly regained his human appearance, but was also afflicted with a condition that caused his intelligence to degrade whenever he used his strength. |

Dave the Barbarian: In an attempt to impress a handsome teen who's into strong babes, Princess Candy has Uncle Oswitch cook her up a strength enhancing potion. The potion works, also giving her normally petite physique a more Heroic Build, but she's warned the potion may have unforeseen side effects if she takes too much. Naturally when Candy still finds herself outclassed by a rival, she decides to down the whole bottle, swelling to behemoth size but also having her intelligence reduced to that of a neanderthal. She manages to defeat the other girl, but in the process scares off the object of her affections. Fortunately the potion's effect can be reversed, and the episode ends with Candy back to normal. | |

However, it comes with the dangerous side effect of dramatically weakening their bodies, not just making them physically weaker but overtime meaning that ordinary activity puts more and more strain on their organs, as they later discover the process will continue until they're bodies become to weak to continue and the strain kills them. The Adventures of Dr. McNinja: Martin Monster is an Expy of the Incredible Hulk, a man who turns into a large monster when sufficiently angered. His introductory arc reveals that his increased physical power comes at the cost of a drop in intelligence; as he puts it he becomes really dumb in monster form. Martin keeps this very secret, both for the obvious reason that people regularly take advantage of his monster form's stupidity when they discover it, but also shame because he's the son of the genius scientist who created the monster form to begin with. Martin's shame is so great that he would rather be seen as an opportunistic traitor for selling out his old superhero team than admit he was simply duped into doing so. | |
