Whenever the original instance of a character in a series gets obscured by later developments of the same character, whether it be a sequel, an adaptation, the casting of a breakout character, even a Retool of the original. In the most extreme cases the original installment hardly gets recognized by anyone but the most hardcore fans.
Possibly a supertrope of both Sequel Displacement and Adaptation Displacement. The exact inverse of First Installment Wins.

The Fonz from Happy Days was originally conceived as an intimidating, occasionally violent tough-guy semi-villain and semi-criminal. Cue the Flanderization.
Laverne & Shirley were... shall we say... portrayed as "easy" girls when they first appeared on Happy Days. And violent. Especially Shirley.
Mork from Ork was originally a villainous alien invader intent on destroying the Earth in his first appearance on Happy Days. He also turned out to be a dream when the episode first aired, although a new ending was shot when the spinoff was picked up.

Darksiders: The lore of the first game stated that the Nephilim were beings older than angels and demons. Darksiders II, however, states that they were born from angels and demons. In fact, Lilith explicitly states in the Sequel she is responsible for their birth.

Dragon Ball:
In the original Dragon Ball, Goku originally started out as a wild monkey boy from the distant mountains with inexplicable endurance and martial arts talent compared to normal people. Nowadays since Dragon Ball Z, he's more famous for being descended from alien heritage and defeating ever-more fantastic villains with ki blasts.
Anyone remember when Bulma was one of two main characters in the story?

The Yu-Gi-Oh! manga started out as the tale of a teenager whose dark side brings judgment on abusive people with lots of horrific implications. Halfway into the series the card game took over and everything from that point onwards became the tale of people beating each other in a Serious Business card game, with said horriffic implications appearing from time to time.

Mortal Kombat:
These days Raiden is mostly known as the wise and benevolent protector of Earthrealm. However, this wasn't always the case. In the first game, Raiden was an arrogant god who attended the Mortal Kombat tournament to prove the superiority of his strength and fighting skills over mortals. This also contradicts the rule in later games that Raiden could not participate in the tournament.
Kano was originally Japanese-born American but was retconned into being Australian after Trevor Goddard's portrayal of him in the movie.

U.S. Acres. On the strips Orson started as a small piglet and grew up with the time learning important lessons along the way. On the animated shorts Orson is a mature Pig and the wisest character, often teaching important lessons to young chicks Booker and Sheldon.

Originally, Tintin did some reporting, but by the fourth or fifth book, he seemed to have surreptitiously retired to the quiet life of getting swept up in fantastic adventures and foiling the plots of mustachioed movie moguls.

Thanks to the breakout success of Fate/kaleid liner PRISMA☆ILLYA, Illyasviel von Einzbern is best remembered as the cheery young girl with magical powers straight from a completely different genre than the big sister-like stunted adult grail vessel she was in Fate/stay night. Lampshaded by her stay night self's appearance in Fate/Grand Order, where upon meeting her as Sitonai, the Protagonist remarks that this is not the Illya they've grown accustomed to.

Spider-Man: Mary Jane Watson is regarded as Spider-Man's true love, despite her original role as The Veronica.
Justified, as Gwen Stacy, the Betty, has been dead for 40 years.... at least until a still-kicking alternate universe counterpart gained a lot of popularity.

The villainous origins of the Scarlet Witch, and Hawkeye have pretty much been swept under the rug. Likewise, Quicksilver started as a straight villain, and now he is best known for his Heel–Face Revolving Door tendencies.
