I Am Not Spock is more than just not actually being the character an actor is portraying but also may not actually resemble the general personality of the character. Some people have a great talent for comedy and are absolutely hilarious onscreen. Because they are making people laugh it's understandable if they are approached in real life they will be every bit the Class Clown they appear to be. But this is not always the case. Comedy is difficult and often takes a lot of planning and writing, Improv may be used sparingly and even Harpo Does Something Funny may be the result of several hours or days working out a "spontaneous" gag. This can create a small shock factor in seeing an actor known for bouncing off the walls come across as quiet and unassuming in interviews, and may even be annoyed at this perception due to Celebrity Is Overrated. To their friends and family who knew them before they became famous there's a hint of Beware the Quiet Ones. It's not exclusive to comedians, but you can get a similar discovery watching a Large Ham or Sir Swears-a-Lot be quite mellow in person.
