Animals, for the most part, don't typically talk. Despite this, one of the animals that comes closest to participating in a coherent conversation (not counting parrots) is the owl, its call of "hoo" being often mistaken for the owl asking "Who?" in English. The confusion can also happen in French-language works and translations, except the "hoo" sounds like "Où ?" ("Where?") instead. Dutch-language works and translations understand the "hoo" as "Hoe?" ("How?"). A subtrope of Who's on First?. Compare Animal Species Accent and Pokémon Speak. If they keep asking Who because they are dumb, it's Unwise Owl. |

The Baker's Daughter relays how the titular character became an owl. After promising a beggar bread three times and breaking said promise each time when she finds the bread impossibly big for what she thought she'd be parting with. The third time, however, she realizes things aren't adding up and stammers out "Who...? Who...?" as she is confronted by the beggar, who actually was a fairy who was testing her. The fairy replies that she'll repeat those words until death and turns her into an owl. | |

When Merlin checks his watch and concludes that someone [Wart] will be arriving in half an hour, Archimedes pops out of his bird house and says, "Who? Who? I'd like to know who?" Also played with in that he has a tendency to mutter interrogatives, especially when riled up or surprised. |
