HoneyWorks, sometimes called Haniwa (┗|∵|┓), is a circle of music video artists that includes composers/musicians Gom (FernandoP), shito (Chorisu-P), Oji (Kaizoku Ou), cake (Keiki Uto) and Atsuyuk!; and features Yamako and Mogelatte (with Rocoru fulfilling a similar role until 2019) as the primary illustrators. When they were first formed, HoneyWorks would primarily use Vocaloid voicebanksnote They favor GUMI and Hatsune Miku the most, though they do use Kagamine Len and Rin and V Flower on occasion to fill in the vocals for their works, but nowadays the group has increasingly collaborated with other artists (such as CHiCO, sana, and other utaite and idols) to do the singing. In fact, their major music group, CHiCO with HoneyWorks, is often used for professional projects.Their work splits up some time after the Love Series song "Tokyo Summer Session". The Vocaloid versions of their songs are featured exclusively on their Youtube account, while the human versions are on the Niconico accounts, with some human songs slipping through to Youtube. By the time "Yappa Saikyou!" was released, they have begun to post human and Vocaloid versions of their works on both accounts again, but at a slower rate.Having a distinctly upbeat music style, their works usually center around themes of "youth" and lighthearted high school love stories, most notably Confession Executive Committee.Their 'Haniwa' acronym is not to be confused with the Series Mascot of AliceSoft.

Heterosexual Life-Partners: The friends from "Cherry Blossoms" gave each other inspiration and a reason to fight, and their bonds shape the events of the music video. Amusingly enough, this pair is friends with the Platonic Life-Partners of "Pride Kakumei" as well, just not to the extent of their two-man friendships.

Captain Ersatz: Tends to happen whenever there's a music video for one of the Anime Theme Songs or Endings they do: For "A Promise That Doesn't Need Words", the two main characters may as well just be Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha. "Pride the Revolution" and "Cherry Blossoms Dance at Dawn Today" both have their Gintoki Sakata Expies; the black haired boy who saves his ponytail friend, and the boy with Gintoki's signature white hair and perm respectively. They both take from different parts of him, with the black haired boy taking Gin's tenacity, wooden sword, and heroism, and the white haired boy taking his looks and sentimentality. In the latter's case, the song lyrics almost certainly apply to Gintoki as much as it does the protagonist, and Takasugi gets his own Expy in the sickly boy.

Reincarnation Romance: In "Love's Scenario", a rich young lady left her abusive fiance/husband to elope with her poor lover, and died in the process. Flash forward several hundred years later, all three are now ordinary high school students, and the girl is in a relationship with a kindhearted brunet, while a blond Jerkass stands in their way. It turns out that the brunet is the abusive boyfriend and was pretending to love her, and the jerky blond was her previous lover. Both the blond and the girl figured out that the brunet wasn't truly in love with her at different points. The blond and brunet are aware of the reincarnation, but not the girl.

Gayngst: HoneyWorks is no stranger to the topic of unrequited love, but the very few songs they have concerning gay/LGBT characters mainly focus on those characters suffering from it hard. Dolce and "Can An Idol Fall in Love with An Idol?" reveal that Kazuki Haiga has a crush on his groupmate and friend Fuma Shirayuki, but he never tells him and hides his feelings when Fuma starts to get interested in a fellow idol of the opposite sex. Chisa Takano in the MV for "Ugly Creatures" is explicitly a lesbian in love with her best friend, but she's terrified of her figuring out. She also has to deal with the pain of watching said friend happily date a guy, even though she's supportive of the relationship. It's implied that the black haired boy of the Two Guys and a Girl friend trio in "To You, Who Was My Best Friend in the World" isn't in love with the girl of the group (which he explicitly says to the brown haired boy), but instead the other boy himself. I Want My Beloved to Be Happy

I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: "Love Chord" and "The World is Falling in Love" have two friends who are in love with the same boy. The black haired girl, Tsubomi, doesn't act on her feelings, so she just encourages the brown haired girl (Misaki) to go after the boy (Kaname). After Misaki finally finds out that Tsubomi was in love with him too, the situation is reversed a bit: it's implied that she lets her confess to him. You can see that she's upset about something in "Love Chord" and suspiciously near the door to the rooftop, and in "The World is Falling in Love", the silhouette of a girl with slightly longer hair than Misaki is shown taking Kaname by the tie. The novel reveals that this isn't helping anyone, as Kaname is still in love with Misaki and isn't changing his mind at any point because of this kiss.

Idol Singer: Around 2017, HoneyWorks began to produce a ton of content for fictional idol singers. Their Idol Series in Confession Executive Committee features four groups (LIP×LIP, mona, Minami, and Full Throttle4); they began with the Dolce group around the same time and started producing music for them in 2018; and finally, they have a hand in the Virtual Johnny's Project group ASCANA. They also composed songs for many real-life idols and pop singers as well, such as for utaite gone professional or for THE iDOLM@STER: Cinderella Girls. 2021 saw to them producing a proper group, Karen na Ivory, and later another called Takane no Nadeshiko.

Zig zagged when their songs have official human versions; the guy songs are usually sung by men, although albums such as Suki ni Naru Sono Shunkan wo have male focused songs sung by the very female utaite sana.

Anti-Hero: The male lead of "Dawn Moonlit Night" fits the bill. All he wants is to give himself and the heroine a better life. And for that, he plans to steal or charge for services, and if his corruption is anything to go by, dive into darkness.

Ugly Guy, Hot Wife: While the pair didn't actually end up together, "The Currently Slightly-Rumored God" is about Amaterasu, who is very well-known for her incredible beauty, falling in love with a frankly unattractive human boy who sports a bowl haircut, wears Opaque Nerd Glasses and has exaggerated buck-teeth (Joe from "Yoshino Wants to Run Away"). You don't realize this is the case until the very end, though. Subverted when we see him from Yurufuwa Jikkou Iinkai onwards, as he's actually a handsome boy underneath his glasses and teeth but deliberately hides his beauty.

Also, the male lead in "Canele". He's initially dismissive towards the female lead's Through His Stomach advances, but shows that he does care about her when he agrees to eat her sweets after seeing her False Friends make fun of her behind her back.

Novelization: The circumstances explaining the names, backstory, and plot of the PV characters for "The World is Falling in Love" comes in its "Prologue" light novel. It comes as a bonus on the first CHiCO with HoneyWorks album. "Suki Kirai" and all the associated songs also have a novelization.

Precocious Crush: "Tomorrow, with You" has a high school girl fall for an older salaryman she met one day on the train, and works herself up to confess to him. At the very least, the man ends up acknowledging her crush and tells her his name, which the audience doesn't get to see. The heroine of "Nostalgic Rainfall" starts the story with a huge crush on her teacher, Hiro Ogino. The story eventually moves past this, as she grows up and joins him as a colleague.

Writing Around Trademarks

comment
Writing Around Trademarks: Premium Live can't exactly refer to any of the vocal synthesizer characters by name (even in the case of "Love and Hate", where the characters are simply called Miku, Len and Rin), so they only call them "the girl" or "the boy" when explaining their plots in the music video overviews. They sidestep this in cases where they're playing someone else (such as in "Taketori Overnight Sensation"). In the case of "Heroine Ikusei Keikaku", which uses characters from Johnny & Associates' Virtual Johnny's Project, the overview simply lists the borrowed characters similarly instead of by their actual names, although they weirdly get to keep their unit name ASCANA. The accompanying Talk Live also gets around it by having Hiyori (who actually knew Virtual Johnny's Asuka in every other continuity) simply forget his name.

Lyrical Dissonance: Most of HoneyWorks' songs have a cheerful tune. Not all of them have an equally happy lyric. A prominent example is "Rockbell" — its tune is seemingly bouncy and positive but the lyrics makes it clear how terrible the cat's life is.

Expy: The male lead of "Love's Scenario" looks quite a bit like Magic Kaito in the former's first incarnation. In "Kessen Spirit", the bespectacled manager of the Futaba High School volleyball team and the the team itself are ones for Kyoko Shimizu and the Karasuno High School men's volleyball team. The PV is even in the manager's perspective, much like the ending animation of Haikyuu!! TO THE TOP is from Kyoko's perspective.

Romantic Runner-Up: "Gimme Gimme Call" is told from the perspective of one. It looks to be a Childhood Friend Romance between two boys and one girl, and the girl is having trouble picking one friend or the other. The end of the song reveals that both boys were actually gunning for each other and they never really thought of her as a love interest. Cue the couple comforting their heartbroken buddy.

The climax reveals it's more of a case of Damsel in Distress instead, and the group that stole her away was more than likely a group of workers from her family estate trying to take her back home.
