Machigerita is a Japanese singer, song writer, and composer who first got famous for being a Vocaloid producer. Though he has seemingly retired from Vocaloid, he still keeps his musical career going by writing songs for other artist while also preforming his own songs. He also founded the band "NILADMIRARI" which became the name for one of his projects. He also writes novels based on some of his works.Advertisement:propertag.cmd.push(function() { proper_display('tvtropes_mobile_ad_1'); })He is the composer for Tsukiuta's January representatives, Hajime and Yuki, as well as the original songs in the series' 4th and 6th stage plays Lunatic Party and Kurenai Enishi.

Urban Legends: Meta example with "Rotten Girl Grotesque Romance"; it's been rumored that the song is based off of a real murder case in Japan that was officially never revealed to the public, but there was a report that was leaked about it. It's worth mentioning Machigerita has never confirmed this to be true, and if the song's Vocaloid Wiki page is anything to go by, he thought up the lyrics on a train ride home and has no idea what was going through his head when he came up with the lyrics.

Becoming the Costume: "Strange Masquerade Halloween" is about a group of people who are invited to a Halloween party, the titular masquerade, and who spend the night eating, drinking, and dancing. Eventually, however, they all transform into their masks.

Playing Against Type: It's hard to believe that he is the one composing the first opening theme of AkaSeka, a poetic and upbeat song entitled Kotohogi no Hana. About half of songs for the Tsukiuta stage plays are also upbeat, like the themes for both. "Oboro no Koe" and "Tenko Eika" from Kurenai Enishi aren't upbeat, but they are slow, melancholy, and pensive, also against his "type", so to speak.

Creating Life Is Bad: In Test Tube Princess a scientist creates an artificial life form meant to function as a weapon of mass destruction dubbed "The Final Weapon" or "Eve". However (most likely unintentionally), Eve grew aware of herself and began questioning why she wasn't allowed to have feelings like a normal human. Eventually after being tested, Eve grew tired of destroying things and vanished. Subverted in the sequel Houkai Utahime where the scientist tries again. Eve Mark 2 does question her reason for existence and wonder if there is more to life than senseless killing, but, in the end she decides she doesn't care and keeps destroying.

Monster Mash: Multiple of his Halloween songs feature an assortment of monsters. "Halloween Monster Party" has several undead creatures and monsters having a party on Halloween - specifically mentioned are a ghost, werewolf, witch, zombie, and a skeleton. "Darker Halloween YumYummy Gillia" features several monsters, who refer to themselves as the "storytellers", luring humans into their world. Amongst the cast is a groveling woman (a reference to his earlier song "Dream Meltic Halloween"), demon twins, a puppeteer (a reference to "Karakurishi to Midori"), an undead Cat Girl, a Mad Scientist and his Artificial Human.

This Is a Work of Fiction: Machigerita has constantly put disclaimer's on his works. Even on Mother he had to clarify that his mother isn't a monster who can twist her neck around. Despite this, the majority of his western fans started spreading the rumor that some of his songs were based on true stories, Dark Woods Circus for example.

comment
Nothing Is Scarier: Mother is extremely vague yet terrifying. It begins with a laughter and then a scream before a girl notices her mother is in the house and sees her neck twisting, she then makes an unsettling stutter and her voice gets all the more deep as she begs the viewer to run for their life as mother has already "gotten" her. It ends with a distoring sound effect. There isn't even a real music video to clue you in, it's just a picture of the daughter, staring. In the remake it ends with a screech and the girl choking out her last word, "mother".

Lyrical Dissonance
 Machigerita (Music) / int_dbfd6b8
comment
Lyrical Dissonance: Usually tends to be averted, as most of his songs have dark lyrics to match their instrumentals, but zig-zagged in Rensou Kakudai Chocolate-Holic. The meaning is rather lighthearted - it's about girls competing to make chocolate for their crush on Valentine's Day - but a good chunk of the song is an intense track you'd expect from his usual style. However, it does have a few cutesy-sounding parts that would be typical of a song with this theme.
