Calvin Cordozar Broadus, Jr. (born October 20, 1971), better known as Snoop Dogg, is an American rapper, record producer and actor. One of Dr. Dre's most popular discoveries, he is known for his smooth, laidback vocal delivery, lyrics that champion marijuana and feature over-the-top depictions of gang life and violence, and popularizing the slang term "izzle" (i.e. "fo' shizzle, my nizzle")note The term was introduced to hip-hop by the rapper E-40, however. His stage name comes from a nickname used by his parents, because they thought he resembled Snoopy the dog from Peanuts.Snoop made a huge impact on Hip-Hop fans as a contributor to Dre's classic album The Chronic, and soon released his debut solo album, Doggystyle, the following year. After being cleared of charges over his bodyguard's 1993 murder of Philip Woldemariam, he switched from Death Row Records to No Limit Records in 1996, then to Priority in 2002, and Geffen in 2004. Between 2003 and 2004, he actually was, no joke, a professional pimp, which carried over to his music persona. In 2009, he became chairman of Priority Records.Snoop has also branched out into other genres under different monikers. While he keeps Snoop Dogg as his hip-hop moniker, he released a reggae album as Snoop Lion, a techno album as DJ Snoopadelic, and adopted the name Snoopzilla to make a funk group with Dâm-Funk called 7 Days of Funk, which released a self-titled album. In film, he had starring roles in Bones, Starsky & Hutch, Hood of Horror, and Day Shift, as well as cameos in assorted TV shows (including King of the Hill, Monk, The Boondocks, Weeds, Ask the StoryBots, Futurama, and Trailer Park Boys) and other movies. He also directed four pornographic movies and a Girls Gone Wild video.Snoop Dogg has also grown notable for just how prolific he is. He's said that he'll appear in just about anything and give his professional best as long as he gets paid. He also loves working with friends and people he respects artistically for the chance to collaborate and hang out.To that end, people he's collaborated with include, but are not limited to, B-Real, Bow Wow, Insane Clown Posse, Pharrell Williams, Limp Bizkit, The Game, Robyn, Gorillaz, Big Time Rush, Katy Perry, Wiz Khalifa, The Chainsmokers, PSY, The Black Eyed Peas and Jason Derulo. He also played Moses on Epic Rap Battles of History, did a song for Tekken Tag Tournament 2, and has also been hosting and executive-producing a revival of the game show The Joker's Wild for TBS. He even co-hosted the 2021 Puppy Bowl with good friend Martha Stewart. Also, all of this isn't counting the numerous commercials he's done as himself, or his appearances in video games.Snoop also has several famous relatives; Sasha Banks, Brandy, Ray J, Nate Dogg, and Daz Dillinger are among his cousins. With Sasha Banks being a professional wrestler, he was inducted into the celebrity wing of the WWE Hall of Fame in 2016 and rapped Banks to the ring at that year's WrestleMania. His name should not to be confused with many of the upgrades from the Scopedog line of ATs.
