Even player characters are technically not immune. While the roleplays normally unfold more like an interactive novel than an average Dungeons And Dragons campaign (the players are intended to win, the interesting part is the "how will they" rather than the "will they"), there are some things even the power of plot would not protect the party from. A good example was the confrontation against Valis Ail. SDM confirmed that if the Anathemites had not refrained from attacking him, the result would have been three dead Anathemites and probably a roleplay abruptly cut short. It had been a terrifyingly close possibility too - a theme for said hopeless battle had the time to start playing before Terminos stopped the other two. | |

All of those Tear Jerker moments that occurred throughout the Hellgate saga, and then some, come back to haunt the characters. Then they have images of the entire world on its way to become nothing but nothing. Followed by the laugh of the story's very own Big Bad, who managed to affect the lives of many people. Who wouldn't give anything just to get out of that nightmare? | |
