Advertisement:propertag.cmd.push(function() { proper_display('tvtropes_mobile_ad_1'); })Welcome to Beacon! is a TV Tropes RP based on Monty Oum and Rooster Teeth's RWBY. Created by Grim Helm on the 2nd of March 2014, it is one of the faster moving Roleplays on the site. Grim Helm is Game Master of the roleplay.Set in an Alternate Universe two years before the events of canon RWBY, the RP tells the story of a group of first year students in the eponymous Academy as they train, fight and study on their way to becoming Huntsmen and Huntresses. And with the sheer amount of antisocial loners, inflated egos, bad pasts, and plain insanity that most of the characters within the cast seem to have, it will not be an easy story to tell.Because of the influx of player interest, a second game (known as Beacon-2) was started to accommodate those players who were late to sign up for the first roleplay. The Server 1 RPG can be found here, and the Server 2 RPG can be found here. The original RP discussion, and all its madness, can be found here. The RP discussion for Beacon-2 can be found here.Advertisement:propertag.cmd.push(function() { proper_display('tvtropes_mobile_ad_2'); })On September 2014, various problems on both servers caused the GM to implement a universal Cosmic Retcon, shutting down both servers and opening up a new, combined setting known as Welcome to Beacon: Ultimate Server. or Beacon-U. Beacon-U hopes to streamline the game and make it hassle-free, and also to ensure the survival of the plot of Beacon-2, as that server was dangerously close to dying. The Beacon-U discussion can be found here.Don't forget to check out the recap page for approved worldbuilding and plot summaries.

Applied Phlebotinum: Dust, just like in canon RWBY, is used for everything from transportation to weaponry to complex electronics. But Pius' Dies Irae takes its use to a whole new level, using fifteen mixtures of Dust for whatever Pius needs them for.

comment
All There in the Manual: Most of the worldbuilding surrounding the RP (such as the major noble families of Vale, the surrounding nations of Atlas, Vacuo and Mistral, the history of the Snickersnax and Maddox clans etc.) essentially exists just to provide extra context and is virtually all provided through posts in the discussion thread, rather than in-character. Justified in that all world building needs to be given GM permission before being used.

Fantasy Counterpart Culture
Welcome to Beacon! (Roleplay) / int_57d43e40
comment
Fantasy Counterpart Culture: The four main nations have all wound up a little bit like this: Vale is somewhat like Britain - once controlled a powerful empire, ruled by a democratic parliament and a mostly figurehead monarchy. It holds tremendous influence over the other nations and has the longest recorded history - for this reason, it is also extremely wealthy and seen as a place of great wisdom, but also of great intolerance and prejudice. Many of the most powerful corporations are either from Vale or... Mistral. Mistral is a less powerful and influential fusion of Ancient Greek or Italian city-states, in tandem with the political system of the modern day USA and extreme capitalism - everything's a Mega-Corp over there, it seems. Vacuo comes across as something of a North Korea - highly xenophobic and isolationist, its government keen to keep hold of its many secrets. It is known to possess a deeply ingrained caste system, however, similar in some ways to that of India. Atlas is Fantasy!Africa and the Middle East - commonly misconstrued as one vast nation with a single culture, it is rather made up of the 'Eight Courts', each a separate nation, and each in turn being an alliance of multiple small tribes.

Snakes Are Sexy: Ieria Jade, the Snake Faunus. She has the biggest bust of the initiates so far, and holds a sleek and slender body type among other things. That being said, neither of those is displayed often, seeing as she binds her breasts and wears baggy clothing. Turned up a notch with Ieria's mother, Francesca. Who is decidedly less conservative than her daughter and openly flirts with Glynda and Lupa.

Loners Are Freaks: Calypso has a bit of this, but the biggest one in the RP is Urujauni — when she found out that all of the students were assigned a partner and placed into teams, she had a nervous breakdown, and during Initiation she nearly killed herself trying to exploit a perceived loophole in the rules, just so she could take part on her own. Arguably, Ieria is even more of a loner than the other two put together, seeing as she rarely even speaks of her own will to others and mostly tries to seclude herself.

Sink or Swim Mentor: Ozpin. To wit— Beacon-1: He catapults the students off a cliff at the start of the Initiation, and the GM implies he arranged for the flock of Nevermore to appear on the day before initiation. Beacon-2: He makes the students finish their trip to Beacon by running through part of the Emerald Forest and fighting a large pack of Beowolves led by a Kerberos. For Initiation-2, he takes the liberty of firing the initiates into the Grimm-infested Emerald Forest out of large cannons.

Running Gag: "Don't do too much without me!" -Said by many players out-of-sync with the majority due to time zone or schedule constraints, but mostly said by Insano. Blind jokes. Poor Lucas. And his player, who's always at the butt end of this in the discussions page... Sleep deprivation is a common complaint in the discussions forum. When the GM is on the other side of the world from the players, and the co-GM is thirteen hours out-of-sync with him, one of them has to sacrifice a proper sleeping schedule to keep the roleplay moving along.

Number Two: A unique part of the roleplay, compared to canon RWBY, is that Ozpin also assigns one of these for each team after Initiation. Beacon-1 has Belle Babineaux of Team BLAD, Lucas Krigsvart of Team DRKR, Barry Saph-Blut of Team CRGS, and Urujauni Ukungu of Team JUMP. Medus Blanc becomes one for Team MIND when Urujauni leaves and Dex takes her place on the team. Beacon-2 has Noa Schwarzgeist of Team MANN, Ghatz Mienne of Team SCAM, Ai Huang of Team CLAW, and Mandy Blatta of Team GLAM.
