You usually find us in movies and TV shows. We're good storytellers, describe the settings around us, and you see us everywhere. What are we called? We're Tropes.Come Outside is about the adventures of Auntie Mabel and her faithful pet Pippin, as they explore various places and see how things are made. It was produced by The BBC from 1993 to 1997 and was rerun on CBeebies until late-2012.Has nothing to do with the Mike Sarne song of the same name, or the other former CBeebies programme Step Inside.

Rule of Cool: Auntie Mabel travels everywhere in a plane even though she only goes to other places in England. Somewhat downplayed when she goes to Spain in the Marmalade episode.

Units Not to Scale: In the Come Outside game, Pippin is unusually larger. Also, Auntie Mabel narrates but is not present in the game, instead featuring a male character alongside Pippin.

Alternate Universe: In the CBeebies show Waffle the Wonder Dog, there is a character called Mrs Hobbs, who sort of resembles Auntie Mabel. Mrs Hobbs owns a cat but is often irritated by Waffle the dog, but deep down, she really does love dogs. A crossover would be a rather exciting idea!

Afraid of Doctors: In the Toothpaste episode, both Pippin and Auntie Mabel experience fear. While Pippin adamantly refuses to leave the house, Auntie Mabel's fear is understandable and only slightly nervous, which is relatable for any child. Nonetheless, she manages to keep calm and composed.

Mood Whiplash: In the Brick Episode, while the pair are in a building site, Pippin runs off, and Mabel tries to chase after her, we last see Pippin seemingly crushed by a grab lorry claw. Then we see Mabel upset, fearing the worst, sadly returning home as she fears the worst, thankfully Pippin is fine, she arrives home with the bricks and Mabel happily hugs her.

Obvious Stunt Double: In the plane scenes, Pippin was doubled with a puppet that moves only slightly. Also, in the Marmalade episode, all the scenes shot in Spain were done with a double dressed as Auntie Mabel.

Magic Realism

comment
Magic Realism: Pippin can run for long distances while chasing a Rubbish Van or Auntie Mabel's blouse. However, she only displays signs of exhaustion after chasing the latter. In the episode featuring Pencils, Mabel and Pippin suddenly found themselves in a graphite mine after a bright flash of light. Miraculously, they then appeared in the Pencil Factory. During the Bread Episode, the duo visits a wheat field followed by a Bread Factory. Mabel purchases a loaf for her breakfast, but it seems like hardly any time has passed as her boiled egg is still presumed to be warm. In the Apple episode, this magical time loop is used, Mabel and Pippin go to the Orchard to see the apples, then to the factory where they are cleaned, they are in the wholesalers in the early morning before buying some Apples at the Greengrocers before returning to the house which at no point does it suggest it's the time has passed. In the Marmalade Episode, it seems like there must be some sort of magical time and energy at play for Auntie Mabel to travel to the Orange Groves of Spain and for the plane to make the round trip without needing to refuel within an hour.
