(The Van Dyke Family roadshow perhaps? Given that Dick's daughter also appears as Mark's daughter and all four of Barry's children turn up in the series and Dick's brother turns up as Mark's brother...)In between saving people's lives, Mark as the chief of internal medicine also finds time to help the woefully inadequate LAPD find the constant murders that have been going around lately. The whole idea is that a patient will come in comatose under the reasoning that a landslide had knocked them out and caused internal bleeding so they died, yet under closer inspection these "rock bruises" look more like the shape you would expect after been repeatedly hit by heavy books. Steve, this man wasn't killed by rocks on a landslide but by books in a library; my diagnosis, murder.It's woefully ridiculous but the fact that the show knows it's a stupid idea and pokes a lot of fun at itself just makes it that much more appealing. Mark doesn't solve the crimes by himself; Steve, Mark's son mentioned above, gives him reason to poke around. Also, depending on the season, he has doctors Amanda Bentley (Victoria Rowell), Jack Stewart (Scott Baio) and Jesse Travis (Charlie Schlatter). The latter opens up a BBQ restaurant with the policeman Steve. So Amanda and Jack/Jesse will then get themselves into random danger with the killer while trying to solve the murder because clearly being highly trained doctors with lives to save isn't enough to keep them occupied and they don't have the brains to ask their police friend, Steve, to look into it for them.It's not commonly known that this was a spinoff of Jake and the Fatman (which in turn was a spinoff of Matlock... which is also linked to Mannix and Murder, She Wrote and Magnum, P.I. by extension... yeah, there's a lot of siblings in this family).Now with a Recap Page, that will need some work.

It is revealed that a computer consultant for Community General runs a sort of assassination service out of a company of his known as Montana Mutual Insurance. He travels around different hospitals finding people who need someone dead, then find terminally ill patients to kill the target, promising full benefits to their families for the job.

Ralph had been trying to steal drugs from the pharmacy so that the security firm would be made a scapegoat and his father would get his job back.note This is not exactly as selfless as it sounds. Ralph is a gambling addict, and is so in hock to his creditors that the only way of saving his life was to sell the cabin his father was planning to retire to, and thus keeping his job would keep him away from the cabin and let him sell it. Lorenzo ran into the pharmacy hoping to avoid a woman on the hospital accreditation committee whom he had sexually assaulted, and when he stumbled upon Ralph trying to steal the drugs, Ralph panicked and cracked him in the head with a nightstick belonging to his father. Ralph then decided to take some advantage of the murder by taking the body to leave it for the committee to find, giving Community General even more reason to fire the security firm. The episode "Murder, Country Style" ends with the reveal that the woman we've been led to believe is the culprit was actually covering for her daughter. The daughter, a songwriter named Laura Manning, was in a relationship that evolved into an engagement with the victim, a country singer named Mickey McShane. However, Laura saw a groupie leave Mickeyâ€™s trailer and realized he was cheating on her. In a fit of rage, she grabbed a lamp and cracked his skull with it, telling her mother what she had done. Her mother, Betty Manning, then took it upon herself to take the fall for her daughter's crime, as she had about six months left to live due to cancer.

It turned out she was killed by somebody else. Subverted in "Rain of Terror" when a woman accidentally kills her boyfriend and spends most of the episode trying to cover it up with her mom. The woman had always intended to kill the boyfriend and made it look like she did it accidentally. Also the case for the older man that dies in "Food Fight". The episode's villain has been sabotaging caterers across Los Angeles, including putting salmonella in the food at one party. Everyone gets sick, but one man in particular dies due to it messing with his potassium levels. The killer didn't mean for this to happen, and the man wasn't even supposed to be at that party, being a last-minute replacement for the date of another guest.
