A Documentary / Reality Television series produced by the Discovery Channel, Surviving the Cut covers some of the most challenging training schools and selection programs offered by the US Military. Episodes commonly involve brutal workouts, lots of screaming from all involved, sadistic instructors, and candidates losing control of their bodily functions or quitting in despair. Each episode is also interspersed with interviews of the candidates, the instructors, and the officers who command the training cadres in order to play up the difficulty of what the candidates are going through or the importance of the training to the overall mission of America's armed forces. Notably, the series only covers a few selection courses for special operations units, choosing to focus on some of the lesser-known, but still difficult, conventional training.
