So you've just died. For whatever reason, you've kicked the bucket — you must've made a horrible mistake in your past that led to your undoing. Maybe you haven't. Perhaps it was on purpose... It matters nothing now — where are you exactly? You're in purgatory, pretty much. Though if you take a look around, you may notice that it looks... familiar, too. Yeah, this place is pretty much Fredbear's Family Diner, combined with the place you were in when you died. And that place must've been filthy too, given how muddy and worn down your purgatory looks. But you're not alone — there are some manifestations around here too. The puppet pulling their strings tried to make physical bodies for them... it failed, needless to say — and they're all probably a bit unstable as a result. But with your instructor Peter with you, you'll eventually get the gist as to how they work... even with more coming your way as your stay continues. All you have to do is to survive for twelve nights, 10 to 7.Dormitabis is a Five Nights at Freddy's fangame developed by Blackout. The game was in Development Hell for two years, and received a surprise release on February 25th, 2018. It serves as a fan-made epilogue of sorts to the series' story, only taking the first four games' lore into account while adding its own. You can play the game here on GameJolt. On July 31st 2023 an official remaster made by Expelled Studios was released. It added new characters, mechanics, and a completely redone story. You can download the remaster here on GameJolt

Dormitabis (Video Game) / int_11f5ef55 | comment |
Many Spirits Inside of One: Golden Call's original spirit is Kyle, who in the original was the Bite of '83 victim but in the remaster is one of Garvey's direct victims, but the human body you see inside is Peter Write. Meanwhile, the B.O.A is possessed by five people, Garvey's victims from the 1987 restaurant.

Dormitabis (Video Game) / int_14beeefd | comment |
Darker and Edgier: Moreso even for this series' pantheon of fangames, as it includes Mechanical Abominations, a grimdark aesthetic, and rape — compared to other fangames, it feels downright twisted. It also features actual swearing, something that the original FNaF and most fangames readily avoid. The remaster omits the rape detail, but maintains the swearing, aesthetic and Body Horror designs of the antagonists.

Multiple Endings | |
Dormitabis (Video Game) / int_1aa08f77 | comment |
Multiple Endings: The first occurs after completing Night 10: after surviving the night, the player must fend Garvey off one final time via tapping the space bar. Then a screen appears showing John's grave, describing him as a "brat, scum and a waste of air", along with a present that seems to be leaking a dark fluid with a note that says "See you soon". It is left ambiguous as to whether John escaped purgatory or 'died'. The second occurs after completing Night 11. A crying child that resembles the Puppet informs you of Night 12 and the way to unlock it, in which the method can be found below. Another is the Golden Ending. After collecting three keys note one via completing Nightmare, another via collecting all 10 tapes, and the last via listening to the 10th tape and playing the AMIREAL Easter Egg, Night 12 will be unlocked. After completing it, the box from Five Nights at Freddy's 4 appears. Click the locks and it gives you newspapers reporting the incidents throughout the Fazbear legacynote or rather the first four games, before the masks of each animatronic appear around the box. Five Nights at Freddy's 3's ending music plays in the background, "Fin" appears on screen, and the game cuts to credits.

Dormitabis (Video Game) / int_20f689e9 | comment |
Adaptational Villainy: In the original game, Molten Evil was merely Havoc Puppet's plasma source for the animatronics created in the game. In the remaster, she's upgraded to a Greater-Scope Villain as the puppeteer of the animatronics killing the player. The remaster's Characters page also identifies her as a "powerful, vengeful neglecter", which implies that she may have in some way allowed the Bite of '83 to happen and therefore would be partially responsible for Garvey's subsequent mental deterioration.

Easter Egg | |
Dormitabis (Video Game) / int_29a39f6 | comment |
Easter Egg: Several: Rarely when hanging up a call, the monitor simply shows the two words "HANG UP". Then "UP" disappears, before showing you a tinge of Black Comedy: a screen of a man being hung to death. In the image, a sign says "All quiet, for you to concentrate", muting all sound except for the jumpscares. There are also some rare screens: one shows a crude paper-mache animation of Purple Man writing something — likely planning out his murders — as an ambient version of "The Grandfather's Clock" plays in the background. Another shows Golden Call sitting on the office chair limp, a third shows multiple animatronics from the game laying dead, and one with Garvey and Havoc Chica. There is a slightly more lighthearted one where you have to tap AMIREAL's nose rapidly as intensifying drums play in the background. Soon AMIREAL will become Cakebear, the "Give Cake to the Children" Freddy from 2, before jumpscaring you and, if you have all 3 keys, granting you access to Night 12. The remaster also has this minigame, although with a different soundtrack and requiring you to type in a number every so often. If you notice, the dumpster seen in CAM 1 in Cakebear's Night contains a corpse. It's likely that this is Garvey's first victim, the child who is killed in the "Give Cake" minigame from Five Nights at Freddy's 2, implying that this was the night when Garvey killed him/her and the last night before Cakebear's had to close its doors.

Darkness Equals Death | |
Dormitabis (Video Game) / int_2c77fae3 | comment |
Darkness Equals Death: Zig-zagged in the original, where most animatronics have their jumpscares preceded by the lights turning dark. Once the lights turn on, BLAM!. Unsettlingly, this is also how the nights end when they reach 7 AM, making the situation when animatronics are about to kill you when the clock transitions to 7 AM a Hope Spot. The remaster actually manages to Invert this. The jumpscares now occur without the early warning of the lights turning off, which makes them much more startling than in the original, but keeps the lights-turning-off effect for the transition to 7AM.

Ax-Crazy | |
Dormitabis (Video Game) / int_2d4fa515 | comment |
Ax-Crazy: In the original Dormitabis, the Purple Guy, who is named Garvey Write in both versions of the game, is much, much more demented than FNAF's William Afton. He killed a grand total of fourteen people, including eleven children (one indirectly), a female teenager (whom he also raped), Phone Guy, and his brother. Even after death, he still hunts John to "pay back" what he has done to him and shows no remorse for what he did whatsoever. On top of all this, Garvey's original motivation was to ruin the reputation of the Cakebear (later Fazbear) brand because some of its employees (including John) made fun of him for his purple skin, which he calls a "physical mutation" in one of his tapes. While the original Garvey was clearly a powderkeg of hatred, malice and sadism just waiting to be lit up, the remaster scales his crimes back significantly and paints him as more of a victim of Sanity Slippage. Garvey began murdering people to get revenge for John after John became the Bite of '83 victim (though in this timeline John survives), and during his boss fight, Garvey accuses John of being an Ungrateful Bastard for killing them both despite what Garvey claims to have done for him, though it's clear that he's very much been driven insane by first his murders, then becoming Springtrap and suffering in "purgatory", which he actually believes is Hell.

Attention Whore | |
Dormitabis (Video Game) / int_31df118 | comment |
AMIREAL's mechanic revolves around whether the player is looking at him via the cameras. He doesn't want the player to look at him so he can stay in his ruined form, which allows him to attack the player. Staring at him reverts him to his Cakebear form, in which he is harmless. He operates similarly to an Attention Whore type of enemy during the main nights, except the player doesn't constantly have to look at him; he only calls for your attention when he's in a ruined state, at which point the player needs to look at him to drive him away. This does not apply to Night 12, in which he is in his Cakebear form and remains hostile. In that case, however, the player has to avoid looking at him, as doing so when he enters the office is what causes him to attack.

Big Good: Peter Write is this game's Phone Guy, and is ultimately the player's only ally while surrounded by spirits who desire to consume the plasma of the player character's body. Like the original Puppet who gave life to the first game's animatronics, this game's Puppet is also the one who gave a form to the purgatory animatronics, themselves included. Their physical forms are a total mess because Havoc Puppet made little effort in giving them a perfect form.

Disproportionate Retribution: A particularly disturbing example, although the remaster tones it down somewhat. In both versions of the game, Garvey kills fourteen people and stuffs their bodies into animatronic suits (one body is stuffed in a dumpster) specifically to destroy the reputation of the Cakebear's (later Freddy's) brand. In the original, Garvey also sexually assaults one of his victims and is motivated by a hatred of the Cakebear's staff for making fun of his purple skin defect, while in the remaster, Garvey is very overprotective of his brother John, leading him to kill a child for bullying John in 1982, then slide further into his budding insanity when John is nearly killed during the Bite of '83. Garvey then decides to ruin his brother Peter for owning the Fazbear franchise and "allowing" John to be hurt and kills his other victims to make Peter and the franchise look bad.

Karma Houdini Warranty: After dying in the Fazbear's Fright fire, Garvey was sent to purgatory and gained his current form... which actually made him stronger. He evades punishment for his crimes after attacking John during Night 10, and the player receives a Bad Ending by default, with Garvey defiling John's grave. However, by Night 11, Garvey is eventually Dragged Off to Hell while his victims move on, which is the game's Golden Ending.

Nintendo Hard: One thing is quite notable about the original game: it is quite challenging even on Night 1 (though the remaster changes this, making Night 1 almost trivial since Havoc Freddy is easy to deal with by himself). Also, you have to spend nine hours instead of six and twelve nights instead of seven. Especially when Garvey pops up in Night 10 and the latter half of 11. The remaster is much more forgiving even on the later nights, with the characters having much more balanced gameplay than their original counterparts.

Even Evil Has Loved Ones: In the original, by far the only thing that Garvey seems to regret is having to murder his brother Peter to cover his tracks. Although the Extras menu implies that he got over it and thinks of it as just another kill on his list. The remaster seems to play this straight at least in regards to Garvey’s relationship with John as he tries to throw John a birthday party and becomes upset when he’s hurt... Until the tenth night anyways.

The Power of Hate | |
Dormitabis (Video Game) / int_6a6760fa | comment |
The Power of Hate: The animatronics are described as being motivated by their uncertainty and confusion, being children (most of them, at least), and "aren't mentally stable". Garvey, on the other hand, is driven purely by anger. In the original, this anger is also mingled with Garvey's innate madness and evil, while in the remaster this is downplayed since Garvey isn't himself anymore, his already fragile sanity having been completely destroyed by his death and transformation into his purgatory form. In the tapes he records for John in the remaster, Garvey's also shown to be aware(and not happy) that he's slowly turning into the monster that he's always feared he would become. In one of his final tapes, Garvey actually outright warns John that by the time they next meet, he "won't be him anymore" and tells John to find and stop his future self to put an end to everything.

Dormitabis (Video Game) / int_6bda9a30 | comment |
Meaningful Name: "Dormitabis" is Latin for "you will slumber". It refers to the cycle of slumber that the animatronics undergo throughout the game, which prevents them from ganging up on you all at once (until Nightmare Mode). It can also refer to the fact that the animatronics desire for the protagonist to nap (i.e., be caught off-guard), in other words, slumber.

Demonic Possession | |
Dormitabis (Video Game) / int_906365a2 | comment |
Demonic Possession: All animatronics, more or less. Havoc Freddy, Havoc Chica, and Havoc Foxy are possessed by Ted, Maria, and Dave (Jack in the remaster), three of the four children whom Garvey killed in the 1985 restaurant. AMIREAL is possessed and contains the corpse of Fritz Smith, the Phone Guy from the first two Five Nights at Freddy's games. In the original, Molten Evil is possessed by the teenage girl Garvey raped in the 1983 restaurant. In the remaster where this particular detail has been removed, Molten Evil's true name is glitched out in the extras menu, making it unclear what her name is, although she's stated to have been a "powerful, vengeful neglecter". The Soulcage is possessed by Jake, one of the children Garvey killed in the 1985 restaurant. Havoc Puppet is possessed by Tom, Garvey's first victim. Golden Call is possessed by Kyle, who in the original was the Bite of '83 victim, but the body contained within is Peter Write, this game's Phone Guy. In the remaster, John Write is confirmed as the Bite victim (although he survived) while Kyle is one of Garvey's murder victims. The B.O.A is possessed by the five children Garvey killed in the 1987 restaurant in the original. In the remaster, only three of those five children possess the B.O.A. and are named Natalie, Joe and Bryce.. Garvey is possessed and contains the body of Garvey Write, the Purple Guy. Havoc Bonnie in the remaster is possessed by Michael, the 17-year-old boy who found Maria's corpse inside Chica and was then murdered by Garvey in an attempt to cover up her murder. Havoc BB and JJ in the remaster are possessed by Hans and Greta, two of the five children that Garvey trapped to starve to death in the 1987 restaurant, the others being the children that possess the B.O.A. Dawnbreaker in the remaster is confirmed to be "the manifestation of a long-lost family member", although it's unclear who he was before ending up in purgatory. Wordof God reveals Dawnbreaker was a manifestation of Garvey's humanity trying to help John. Played with in the case of Spring-Lich in the remaster, who's stated to be a "terrifying being from hell", making it uncertain whether Spring-Lich is an existing form possessed by a demon, or if it IS the demon itself.

Corrupted Character Copy
Dormitabis (Video Game) / int_922ec657 | comment |
Corrupted Character Copy: The Big Bad and Final Boss Garvey Write is depicted as being much worse than William Afton is in the original franchise in the original 2018 game, mostly thanks to Garvey having clearer characterization and crossing the line way beyond just child murder. In the remaster, Garvey isn't a complete Jerkass and at least thinks his evil deeds are for someone else's sake, which actually makes the remastered version of Garvey seem morally better than William. Of course, William and Garvey are still incredibly evil people, and William is reputable because he's evil; it's more apparent that this depiction of him alters his characterization in many, many ways that differ from canon.

Villainous Breakdown: Garvey slowly loses his cool as Night 10 progresses — first he threatens and taunts you, but his composure slowly deteriorates to the point where he's outright demanding John repeatedly to let him in and accept his demise. Just compare these two lines from the original: In the latter half of Night 11 of the original, when he appears again, he manages to one-up even that, resulting in him becoming absolutely batshit as he's Dragged Off to Hell as the night ends. The remaster also has one of these in the same night, but instead it's Garvey being initially shocked that John is in purgatory with him, but becoming increasingly furious at John for killing them both and trying to justify his monstrous acts as being for John's sake.

Knight Templar Big Brother: In the remaster, while alive, Garvey is shown to be EXTREMELY overprotective of his brother John, to the point that he becomes a serial killer in an attempt to avenge John's injury from the Bite of '83. Averted later on after Garvey loses what's left of his sanity from becoming Springtrap and attempts to attack John during the events of FNAF 3, then again in purgatory during night 10.

Don't Look At Me | |
Dormitabis (Video Game) / int_b5043180 | comment |
Don't Look At Me: Havoc Freddy is driven away when the player hides from him by running to the opposite side of the office, therefore getting out of his view. Molten Evil is driven away by looking up at the ceiling and averting your eyes whenever he/she appears in your office.

Mundane Made Awesome: The Cakebear / AMIREAL minigame required to unlock Night 12 requires you to type the code Dave gives you while distracting Cakebear from attacking you by clicking his nose as often and as fast as you can.
