100% Orange Juice is a virtual boardgame developed by the doujin group Orange_Juice in 2009, to celebrate their 5th anniversary. It features characters from their previous titles such as SUGURI, sora, Flying Red Barrel and QP Shooting to create a crossover for their various games. It was localized by Fruitbat Factory and released on Steam and Desura. The average game is a 4 player free-for-all; players select their character which each have unique stats (HP, Attack, Defense, and Evade) and their own special Hyper card. Then they build a deck of 10 cards which is then pooled into a larger deck of the other players' cards. From here, dice are rolled and players move across the board, attempting to complete “norma” by either collecting enough stars or battling enemies and other players for wins. For each norma completed, they gain levels, and the first one to reach level six wins. It also features multiple campaign modes, having the casts from Orange_Juice’s various games try to figure out what is happening. In the end, it’s a game about the RNG and how much it hates you.Now has a sequel for Orange_Juice's 10th anniversary in 2014, called 200% Mixed Juice, a Role-Playing Game adventure starring the characters introduced in 100% Orange Juice. A Kickstarter campaign was made in January of 2018 to raise funds to make a line of plushies, the goal was met within the first three days!

Everyone Has a Special Move: Each character (this excluded the playable versions of the random mooks and bosses until an update which buffed them) has their own "Hyper" card which is normally unique to them unless they get swapped by card effects or when Charity and/or Treasure are in play. Many can easily turn the flow of the game, so long as you're still in the good graces of the RNG.

Certain Gift cards always show an icon of some sort surrounding the player, letting astute observers figure out what they have and act accordingly.

Anti-Rage Quitting: Playing online games earns you XP, regardless of whether you win or lose (though you get more XP for winning). XP increases your level, which unlocks new items in the shop, such as units, playfields, store discounts, and appearance packs. You have a chance to unlock a new cosmetic item or avatar pose after every online match you finish. The challenges system further discourages rage quitting. You get a small number of oranges per online match which you can use to buy exclusive avatar items; you get more oranges when you complete one of your challenges. Each player has three randomly-chosen challenges, with one challenge being replaced by a new one per day. Nearly all of the challenges only require you to finish the games you're in, not to win.

Trap Master: DLC character Saki has a trap card for her Hyper and usually brings a deck filled with other traps with her to mix it all up. She has somewhat poor stats too, making a direct combat with her risky. Similar to Saki is Krila, who sets 3-5 trap cards as her Hyper. Using "We are Waruda" (which shuffles all trap cards on the field onto random spaces) after setting down a few of her Hypers can make any game chaotic. Yuki (Dangerous) also relies on traps to gain wins, as her passive has her transforming any card with "Pudding" in the name into a "Tragedy In The Dead Of Night" trap cardnote Forces the player to discard a random card, and send it to the trap setter, and if someone else triggers it, she gains 1 win. And her Hyper, called "Evil Mastermind", allows her to set all trap cards in hand on random panels. The end-of-match bonus "Trap Meister" can be awarded (individually) to players who set enough trap cards.

Memory Match Mini-Game: One of the Playground Minigames you can randomly play from a Minigame Panel is called "Match 2", which involves matching two pairs of cards. The player is presented between 8-12 face down cards at the start and, depending on what number they roll on the die from 1-6, will reveal the exact number of cards they rolled for a head start. If the player succeeds in matching all pairs, then the last pair they matched becomes their prize. However, they only have three attempts to do so, and because the minigame is hosted by Marie Poppo, losing the minigame outright will cause her to select a random prize for the player out of their control which can be either good or bad.

Boring, but Practical: The card "Dash". Makes movement for that turn use 2 dice. Very simple, very cheap (3 stars), and very useful. Saki's Cookie heals 1 HP for free, a simple boost that can often be a lifesaver. Marc's Hyper, 16x Big Rocket, targets one player and deals damage to them equal to Marc's Level; if it scores a kill, Marc gets two Wins. It's a very straightforward Hyper on paper, but is extremely powerful due to its ability to scale up in effectiveness as the game progresses and relative ease of use compared to quirky Hypers that don't immediately benefit the character using it. It's also practically impossible to counter it, as it works immediately on use and deals direct damage.

Magikarp Power: Tomomo (Casual) is an extremely weak character, having only 4 HP and -1 in both ATK and DEF and +1 EVA. Her entire gameplay style revolves around fishing for her Hyper, "Miracle Red Bean Ice Cream", which cannot be used the same turn it is drawn and will be discarded if Tomomo is KO'd while the Hyper is in her hand. However, upon usage, Tomomo (Casual) becomes the almighty Tomomo (Sweet Eater), an extremely overpowered unit who boasts 6 HP and +3 ATK, the highest boost of any non-modified character in the game. Going toe-to-toe with Tomomo (Sweet Eater) is very difficult due to her insane ATK stat, and getting the KO against her is the only way to knock her back to her weak Casual form.

Flunky Boss: Three of the currently available Co-op bosses fight with minions on their side. Big the Haruo can summon up to three Chickens on the board, which allows it to stack additional die for each Chicken standing to gain higher rolls. It can also buff the Chickens by increasing their stats. The Star Devourer fights alongside Big Poppo, who assists her by stealing stars from other players should she engage them in battle. The Summer Beast can summon up to four Seagulls to her aid, and they assist her by increasing her hype meter, of which she can stack up to use Rampage on players and gradually increase her HP.

Shifu Robot's hyper "Turbo Charged" drops the user's HP to 1 and gives bonuses based on the amount of HP lost. Actual Pacifist: DLC characters Kyoko and Sweet Breaker; it's even reflected in gameplay. Kyoko has -1 ATK and +3 DEF, but is unable to use the Evade command; her Hyper card even allows her to skip a battle, drop space, or trap card (at the cost of 1 HP); so, the key with her is to focus efforts on star norma and keep her away from battle. Sweet Breaker has 6 HP (the average is 5) and neutral stats, which obviously allows her to survive for longer if things get rough; and her Hyper card, called "Melting Memories", allows her to turn enemy cards face down and allowing other players to see them, forcing them to play blind, and preventing them from getting too excited to go into a fight. Even the achievement for playing ten games with her is called "Champion of Peace". Then again, in her campaign, she's perfectly happy to beat up anyone who she thinks is spreading conflict, no matter how small their slight is (sibling bickering, liking pudding), which even Tomomo calls her out on.

The Computer Is a Cheating Bastard: The final boss Tomomo explicitly rigs her dice so she rolls high, making it very difficult to directly attack her. The only difference between difficulty levels in the single player campaign is how much your opponents cheat. On the campaign's Extreme difficulty, all opponents have their dice rigged as much as possible. On the Original difficulty, they're rigged based on when you fight them, with opponents encountered later on in the campaign cheating more. On Normal, they're not rigged at all. On Casual difficulty, this trope is Inverted: your opponent's rolls are rigged to be worse than fair, giving you the advantage. Co-op is different: the boss doesn't cheat regardless of the difficulty setting. The difficulty changes the environment instead, giving the boss more powerful cards, making their abilities more powerful, and changing the stage you fight them on.

Deck Clogger: Some Gift Cards are specifically designed to waste space on a player's deck with no benefits whatsoever: The card "Unlucky Charm" causes players to gradually lose a small amount of stars every turn. While they can use it to send it to another player at random, doing so will cost more stars than what they lose if they have just kept it (if the cost of the card doesn't exceed the player's current star amount), so reckless usage of the card can turn it into a very damaging star sink. The only way to get rid of the card is to discard it if the player's deck becomes too full. The playable Store Manager has a Hyper Card called "Banned for Life", which works on this principle. Using the card itself will just send it over to another player at random, and if a player discards the card, it'll discard their entire deck along with it. Discarding the card is the only way to permanently get rid of it but at the cost of erasing whatever advantageous cards a player might have.

Artificial Stupidity: CPU players, when given the choice between moving onto a drop panel and moving onto any other type of panel, will never pick the drop panel. This is almost always a sensible move… except when the CPU player has one HP and the other panel is a boss. A human player can recognize that moving onto the boss panel in this situation is suicide, and no matter what they roll on the drop panel, they'll lose far less to the drop panel than they will to dying at the boss. The AI never realizes this. CPU players will also recklessly discard gift cards, regardless if they're beneficial or not. While it's understandable for cards like Unlucky Charm and Bloodlust, several others like Windy Enchantment, Lucky Charm and Metallic Monocoque provide large benefits for players who keep them, a fact that the CPUs don't seem to get.

Death or Glory Attack: The "Final Battle" battle card can extend the length of a battle beyond the one round limit, allowing both players to continue battling until one of them falls. While the card does have a 10 round limit, said limit was only implemented to correct an oversight of two Miusakis using their "Solid Witch" hypers (which grants Nigh-Invulnerability) and getting stuck in an endless loop of No-Selling attacks. And since most characters have average HP pools of 4 or 5 anyway, unless they get really lucky with evading, it's more likely for a KO to happen than for the card to expire. Even Kiriko and the Flying Castle with their highest HP pools of 8 are unlikely to reach the 10 round limit. The "Sink or Swim" battle card reduces all of the user's base stats by -1 but will double the star payout if they manage to KO their opponent in their self-induced weakened state.

Luck-Based Mission: The entire game, of course, but the sheer act of playing Suguri is almost entirely this. She has +1 ATK and +2 EVA, allowing her to hit fairly hard while staying out of the way of any attack value of 2 or less. However, she tops at 4 HP and her -1 DEF makes her an unreliable defender at anything but full HP, not to mention evading can be a bit finicky. In addition, her Accelerator Hyper Card (Which allows her to roll two dice for the duration of her turn) can either be the most overpowered card in the game or the worst card in the game depending on whether the dice like you or not.

Difficult, but Awesome: QP (Dangerous) has 5 HP and -1 EVA, making her a subpar character compared to her normal counterpart. However, possessing cards with Pudding in their names gives her stat boosts, which means that if you're lucky enough to get the cards you want or use her Sweet Guardian Hyper, she can easily turn her stats around and become a powerhouse. Nath starts with 5 HP, -1 ATK, -1 DEF, and +1 EVA, making her weak in the early game. However, she has the Active Extension special ability, which gives her +1 ATK, +1 DEF, and -1 EVA with every battle card she uses for up to three charges (this gives her ATK+2, DEF+2, EVA-2), turning her from a low-key Fragile Speedster into a Mighty Glacier. As a bonus, her Hyper can potentially give her absurd amounts of power by sacrificing all of her stars, giving her ATK+1 and DEF+1 for every 20 stars she spends (up to max of +9 in any stats). With a large haul of stars, she can pretty much kill anything the game has to offer. Kae is one of the most high-risk, high-reward characters in the game. She gains +1 ATK for every DEF point penalty applied to her. Combined with her Hyper, which gives her +1 ATK and -1 DEF and can stack up to three times, she can consistently deal hefty damage. However, it is very easy to KO Kae, especially when she starts lowering her defense, which can be very penalizing if she does not KO her intended target.

However, you cannot target another player for this, and it's highly possible to kill yourself with it depending on the card. The Flamethrower trap card KOs the player who triggered it if they're not holding any cards. If they are, it merely discards all of them.

Luck Manipulation Mechanic: Sora’s Hyper, called "Extraordinary Specs", allows her to always roll 6’s for the duration of her turn. Military Sora's Hyper, called "Awakening of Talent", is similar to this, allowing her to roll 5's. However, in contrast to Sora's Hyper, she can also use it as a Battle card. Lonely Chariot makes it so you only ever roll 5s for movement rolls. However, this is at the expense of 1 HP per turn, and if you are KO'd by this card's effect, you lose your level x 5 stars. Sham's Hyper, called "Delta Field", makes everyone but her roll ones for the next turn, which can be used quite hilariously to mess up their game (the standout example being forcing another player to get reamed by the boss).

Vanilla Unit: Some characters like the starting cast (Kai, Marie Poppo, QP, Suguri, Sora, and Marc) do not come with Passive abilities that give them gimmicks in gameplay, so their playstyles are relatively straightforward with only their raw stats to rely on. This means that in a vacuum, aside from stats, they have no inherent benefits or drawbacks compared to characters who do have Passives, so how they perform in a lobby match entirely depends on execution and the cards you have at your disposal.

Blood Knight: DLC characters Kae and Star Breaker, who actually incorporate this in actual gameplay: Kae's Hyper card sets herself, and anyone who's close-by, on fire, allowing her to gain +2 Attack, at the cost of -2 Defense, making it easier to go into a fight and defeat opponents, but easier for other players to defeat her. Star Breaker can't pick star norma, so she relies on defeating enemies to win. Her Hyper card allows her to place bombs on random spaces, damaging whoever steps on them, very handy to rack up victories quickly; and the achievement for playing ten games with her is called "Champion of War".

Obvious Rule Patch: The "Final Battle" card used to lengthen a battle until one of the players is KOed with no limit of turns. However, with the release of the Witch Pack DLC, two players who used "Solid Witch" (Miusaki's hyper, which causes the player to receive no damage from any source except instant KOs for a single chapter) on the same chapter could be locked in an infinite loop of No-Sell. Thus, since the hotfix, "Final Battle" is limited to 10 turns.

Harder Than Hard: There was originally only one difficulty setting for the campaign. Due to complaints of "Normal" difficulty being too hard, it became renamed "Original", while "Casual" became the new "Normal" and a new "Casual" difficulty was created where all the AI players are rigged worse than fair chance.

Somebody Set Us Up The Bomb: Mimyuu's Hyper card sets up a card-based version of this, by placing cards in the deck that cannot be played and deal 3 damage upon the end of a player's turn if in their hand. Cerebus Syndrome: The trailer for Part 2 that Fruitbat Factory dropped on new years is notably darker than anything else the game has shown so far, going so far as to rather explictly show Poppo dying in it. Although, considering how over the top dramatic it is, the fact that the game had been going for years by the time the trailer dropped, and the fact that Poppo gets immediately replaced with a new clone whenever she dies, this is very likely a Parodied Trope.

Hoist by His Own Petard: It's perfectly possible to step on a trap you placed yourself. Depending on the trap, this can suck exactly as much as it would for anybody else, have no effect whatsoever, or in certain circumstances, actually work in your favor. A more specific case is Yuki's Hyper card, named "Gamble", which lets her KO a random non-KO'd player, herself included. There is also the "Cloud Of Seagulls" boost card that lets a player deal 2 damage to a random player, including the card's own user. Kiriko and Tomomo's Hyper cards allow them to kill anyone that's at a set certain amount of HP (1 for Kiriko, and full for Tomomo), including themselves. However, in Kiriko's case, this is part of her gameplan and is almost never a bad thing, making it a subversion.

Lightning Bruiser: Final boss Tomomo has 6 HP, +2 ATK and +1 EVA and was often banned from online matches for being overpowered. Her only drawback is that she revives slower than others. As of the Version 1.7.7 update, Tomomo's stats are lowered when she is used in an online match, reducing her HP to 4 and EVA to 0. Her stats are the same as usual when used offline. DLC characters Sherry and Islay have 5 HP and +1 in all stats. This is balanced by passives that impose significant drawbacks: Sherry always acts last in a battle (unless it's against another Sherry, or she engages a player-controlled Flying Castle), and Islay can't initiate battles against other players.

Bounty Hunter: Ellie and Lulu, who were added with the wanderer pack, are aspiring bounty hunters who want to become rich and famous via hunting monsters. Then there's the "Bounty Hunters" mode, added in the update 2.9 of the game, where the players assume the role of bounty hunters, and have to complete "quests", which may consist in looking for objects and take them to assigned places, or hunting monsters. By completing these tasks, the players gets "fame" which is used in the place of Wins for This mode.

Nerf: All three playable versions of the standard bosses have had their stats nerfed to keep them from becoming overpowered, and each of them have their own unique drawbacks which prevents them from gaining a massive advantage over the competition. The Store Manager cannot gain stars from bonus panels and he can only use passive gift cards in play. Attempting to discard a non-gift card will result in 1 HP of damage. The Shifu Robot starts out and revives with only 2 HP which gradually heals by 1 every three turns, so for the first several turns, it is susceptible to being easily KOed by other players. The Flying Castle cannot counterattack in battle if another player engages it first. It can only do so when it uses its hyper (which also prevents it from moving).

April Fools' Day: Here's a list of their jokes from the official wiki. Earlier years just had fake patch notes, but more recently they've been releasing companion videos as well. 2019 saw them give voices to enemy characters. 2020 they released a video of Idol's Journey mode, a rhythm game copying THE iDOLM@STER: Cinderella Girls Starlight Stage, and boss character voices. 2022, in addition to a mostly-false Version 4.1 updatenote it was actually Version 3.9.7, was the start of a month-long "Fool's Gambit" event, which added a Chaos Mode in which wild new events could occur (such as replacing the entire deck with Hyper cards, or causing a Gift Exchange every five chapters).

Unskilled, but Strong: The playable Boss Monster units. None of them had a personal Hyper before the 11/23/2016 update, and they're weighed down with a variety of penalties that prevent them from being overpowered, but their raw stats make up for it by being stupidly high. For example, the Manager has 6 HP (as much as Fernet), 2 ATK (as much as Yuki and Tomomo), and no negative stats, but he cannot gain Stars from bonus panels, has a starting Recovery Value of 6, and if he has to discard a card because his hand's too full, he takes one damage.

comment
Stone Wall: Fernet may have lowered attack and evasion (-1 and -2 respectively), but her 6 HP and +2 Defense means she can easily tank damage. On maps with regeneration effects, she shines. Kyousuke has 1 HP less than Fernet but 0 for evade, which means he can actually try and evade some weaker hits, making him arguably even better at surviving attacks. However, this can also be subverted by his Hyper, which swaps his attack and defense stats to turn him into a Glass Cannon. Krila has 0 defense and -1 evasion. However, she ties with Fernet for the third highest HP in the game (6) and can even surpass it through the use of her Hyper. Kyoko is entirely based around this concept. She has 5 HP and +3 defense, a score even some bosses don't have. Her Hyper card also gives her a barrier that immediately nullifies drop panels, traps, and any battles at the cost of a single HP. To compensate, she has a penalty to attack and is barred from using the evade command at all. Kiriko also applies with her 8 HP to start the board, a total that even surpasses Poppo, and only a -1 defense, but a +0 evade meaning she can evade weaker hits without worry. This is mitigated, however, as she cannot heal by any means other than revival, and playing battle cards lowers her maximum HP for the rest of the game. Sherry, surprisingly, manages to fit this trope despite almost always never getting the first hit in combat. Captain Tequila has +1 Defense and -3 Evasion, which makes him unreliable at dodging and dependant on defense. However, he has a passive that lets him gain +1 ATK per every HP lost in battle, esentialy turning him into a Mighty Glacier with the potential to turn the tables on his favor.
