Advertisement:propertag.cmd.push(function() { proper_display('tvtropes_content_3'); })Overwatch 2 is an upcoming sequel to Overwatch, a Pixaresque team-based multiplayer Hero Shooter by Blizzard Entertainment. After being hinted for some time, it was announced at Blizzcom 2019.It is a concurrent release along with its predecessor, and according to Blizzard, will feature a "shared multiplayer environment" between the two titles. All characters, maps, and unlocks from the previous title will carry over, and new characters and maps from Overwatch 2 will be playable in the original's PVP mode. The story (as indicated by the cinematic Zero Hour) picks up immediately after the events of the previous game's animated shorts, in particular Recall, Rise and Shine, Honor and Glory, and Reunion. Winston and Tracer, now joined by the recently-unfrozen Mei, answer a distress call in Paris, which is under siege by a rogue omnic faction known as Null Sector. In the ensuing battle, the three find themselves in big trouble before the cavalry comprising of Genji, Reinhardt, Brigitte, Mercy, and Echo arrive to save the day. After stopping the threat and saving the civilians, the group proudly announce that Overwatch has returned.Advertisement:propertag.cmd.push(function() { proper_display('tvtropes_content_2'); })According to Blizzard, Overwatch 2 is intended to answer fan demand for more story progression, as well as more PVE content. The PVE portion will be more fully fleshed-out than its predecessor, with characters having unlockable abilities via a Skill Tree. The game will also feature PVP, including new modes specific to this version as well as old game types. Blizzard also states that it will also feature a brand-new game engine and major aesthetic upgrades. In addition to the previous title's roster, Overwatch 2 also introduces: Echo: An omnic associated with the previous incarnation of Overwatch. Sojourn: Overwatch's second commanding officer after the disappearances of Morrison, Amari, and Reyes.

The Cavalry: Just as Winston is at the mercy of the massive Omnic, Genji jumps in and deflects the blast, neutralizing its best weapon in one fell swoop. Then we see the familiar weapons of Reinhardt and Brigitte, and the two appear saving the day with a smile while Echo flies by with air support. Finally, Mercy arrives from the heavens within a pillar of light to save Mei and provide a much-needed Heroic Second Wind for round 2.

Updated Re-release: The game is deliberately designed to reinvent how sequels function. Rather than outright replacing the previous game, it is a concurrent release with game modes that has crossplay with the original and simply adds new designs and new features.
