Elements of Justice is a fan made sequel to the famous Ace Attorney and My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic fan Crossover web series Turnabout Storm that was headed by TheAljavis, who in 2023 passed the torch to Mr. G and other members of the team who now continue the project. Chronologically, the series take place after the 4th season of My Little Pony and Dual Destinies from Ace Attorney, respectively. The series format itself is mostly identical to the style used in Turnabout Storm, complete with voice acting for all characters.Eight years have passed since Phoenix Wright was summoned to Equestria. Many things have since changed for both worlds, but now a new string of murders has occurred throughout Equestria, and Twilight Sparkle—now the alicorn Princess of Friendship—must once again summon her old friend to defend the innocent and pursue the truth. Together with their respective allies, they must solve the mystery behind the new series of murders. Are all of these new murders merely coincidences? Or is there a far more sinister connection between them? After a deeply Troubled Production, the series finally launched its first episode on June 5, 2019. Elements of Justice is set to be comprised of 5 cases similar to the Ace Attorney games themselves.

Darker and Edgier: While the original Turnabout Storm was already this compared to MLP, the case itself was relatively tame compared to what you'd expect from the Ace Attorney series. Here, the tone of the cases is much darker, and the murders in Ace Attorney are rarely if ever as gruesome as seen here. Compare the cause of death in Turnabout Storm (electrocution in the middle of a deserted forest) to those of this series. Case 1 has the victim hanged in the middle of a stage show in full view of the audience. Case 2 has the victim die of a stab wound to the head, with no less than five children directly involved with the case.

Fluorescent Footprints: A more justifiable version of the trope occurs in "Turnabout Theatre", as the protagonists discover somepony got fluorescent paint on their hooves, creating a trail that started from a dressing room where the victim worked, then to the catwalks where the crime occurred, and finally out a back door. Phoenix and co managed to discover this when the lights began to flicker, revealing the glow-in-the-dark hoofprints. These footprints turned out to be from Suri Polomare, from her attempt to steal some fabric that was coated in the paint.

Suicide, Not Murder: This is how "Turnabout Theatre" concludes in regards to Overall Concept's death, as both Coco and Suri were proven not to be the killer. However, if it really was suicide, the Driving Question is why, given that the victim (outside his depression and the implied stress from Playwright) didn't show signs of being suicidal beforehand. However, it was then revealed at the end of Case 2 that new evidence surfaced to indicate that Overall Concept was indeed murdered and that, now, Rarity is the prime suspect.

As the prosecutor of Case 2, Princess Luna treats Athena with the level of condescension and harshness you'd expect of Prosecutors of the main series, calling her "Golden Pixie", undermining her constantly, and is revealed after the first trial to have organised a massive conspiracy for the sake of proving Scootaloo, Turning Page and Sweetie Belle innocent, but made it a point to involve everyone but the Defence team. As she reveals later when she visits Athena in her dreams after a nightmare, this is because Athena being a complete unknown made the Princess wary of her and her intentions and competence, and so decided that the best option would be to serve as a Stealth Mentor to steer her in the right direction. However, this ends up backfiring massively several times. The pressure Luna, and in turn the Judge, put Athena on undermines her self-confidence and causes her to try accusing Zecora as a stall tactic, and even after Athena is told the truth of Luna's actions, she's already sick of being made a Unwitting Pawn in Luna's schemes and so intentionally deviates from her plans to really reach the truth of the case. In the end, Luna's mistrust motivated attempts at being The Chessmaster ends with Athena besting her again, and her own competence as a prosecutor being questioned by the general public due to she herself being made an Unwitting Pawn by Fair Devotion, who successfully prevents her from convicting Turning the first time.

Hollywood Law: Turnabout Theatre; After prosecutor Prince Blueblood examines only a single witness, he tries to pressure the defence into letting him examine the defendant in order to establish a possible motive. Should the defense refuse, he threatens to simply forego discussing any of the remaining evidence (and thus rob the defense of the opportunity of poking holes into them) and call for a swift guilty verdict. This threat (and the request it's meant to back up) would be invalid in Real Life for several obvious reasons (such as the fact that either party should generally have the right to request the examination of all submitted evidence before a final verdict is passed), but the main one is that all the evidence should have already been disclosed to the defence ahead of the trial, giving them plenty of opportunity to investigate and dispute it to their heart's content; as a matter of fact, a trial lawyer is advised to never bring up a question in cross-examination to which he does not already know the answer. Naturally, the under-preparedness of the defense is a running theme in Ace Attorney in general. Exaggerated in Crusading For A Turnabout, where the investigation and trial are essentially declared a state secret by prosecutor Princess Luna - up to and including for the defence team, who (for instance) aren't allowed to converse with the defendants long enough to even ask what happened. This situation is justified In-Universe, but would ordinarily likely lead to an immediate mistrial. Also in Crusading For A Turnabout, no heed is paid to the fact that both defendants are (probably) minors; they run risk of facing the same harsh sentences as adult ponies.

Awful Truth

Awful Truth: While Ace Attorney is no stranger to these, Case 2 ends up having one of the most devastating ones so far: After going through a multitude of twists and turns involving clones, blackmail, false affairs and the like, Athena ends up coming to the awful realization of whom the culprit responsible for Royal Order's death is: Turning Page, his own son. It ends up being so horrifying that Athena, despite mere seconds earlier being on a roll with triumphant music in the background, literally cannot bring herself to speak about her realization, instead barely being able to hint towards Luna about this revelation by bringing back Silver Spoon and Sweetie Belle to testify...and the implications are enough to shake the boisterous princess to her core. It's only Phoenix's words about prioritizing the truth over the comfortable illusion involved that gives her the resolve to fully reveal this line of thinking to the court...and even then after the Case's conclusion, Athena still isn't sure if it was the right thing to do, given the damage to everyone involved.

Surprisingly Realistic Outcome
Elements of Justice (Web Animation) / int_3ed23024
comment
Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Following the end of "Crusading for a Turnabout", quite a few events unfold in a tragic way, whereas in an Ace Attorney game (let alone the My Little Pony franchise) things would end up on a slightly more positive note: Private Eye wants to use his position as a chief investigator to make sure that Sugar Stamp can become Turning Page's legal guardian. He is immediately shut down by Luna, who rightfully points out that after all that transpired during the trial, he doesn't have the authority to do so, and may very well be fired from his job very soon. He accepts the consequences, though he alludes that he could still be able to pull some strings. While Turning Page didn't mean to kill his father, the fact stands that he still did and, as his mother points out, he will be regarded quite defavorably by the common folk as a result, as while he is judicially "innocent" thanks to the Double Jeopardy Clause and thus can't be prosecuted, knowledge about the truth behind everything that happened will inevitably become known. He is also separated from his mother who, despite not having killed her husband, committed several crimes in order to protect her son. One would expect the Cutie Mark Crusaders to make up after everything that happened. This is not the case here, as both Sweetie and Scootaloo (and their respective parental figures) engage in a very vicious argument, calling each other out for creating the whole mess and making things worse. Apollo dryly points out that things could have been handled better, judging from the depressing aftermath of the trial, and no one can truly deny his claims.

Bittersweet Ending: Case 2 ends with special emphasis on the bitter. Scootaloo, Turning (by technicality) and Sweetie Belle all avoid being convicted for Royal Order's murder, with Turning being able to take steps to achieve his dream of becoming royal guard by going to a military school for future royal guards. However, the truth that Turning killed his father was revealed to the world, and Fair Devotion, Private Eye and Sugar Stamp will each be punished for their role in attempting to cover this up, and Turning's own sentecing to military school effectively separates Fair from her son. The case also has a nasty fallout, with everyone, especially Apollo and Athena, being extremely conflicted about the conclusion, while Rainbow and Scootaloo are at Sweetie and Rarity's throats for the former's actions and how they worsened the situation, with Applejack's attempts at calming them down coming up fruitless. Then, as if to rub salt on the wound, Lawkeeper Equity shows up to inform them that Rarity is now a suspect in Overall Concept's murder, arresting her, and encourages Phoenix and Athena to distrust Twilight on account of her hiding the reason for her summoning them, as they realized from Psyche-Locks and discord respectively, and the Bonds of Justice episode "On Valiant Wings", which takes place after the case's conclusion, has Scootaloo finally confess her feelings for Turning Page, only for him to tell her that he doesn't feel the same way, though Scootaloo is at least happy that she finally got it off her chest.

"Could Have Avoided This!" Plot: Case 2 has multiple examples of this. Athena gets called out almost immediately by Twilight, the Judge, and Luna for trying to implicate Zecora as the murderer rather than just calling her testimony into question. This inadvisable and unjustified decision leads to several complications for Athena as the case continues. Scootaloo and Turning Page both get told by the judge that they should have talked to a responsible adult about the blackmail so they didn't end up putting themselves, and multiple other ponies, in danger. Fair Devotion has an opportunity to let her son confess and possibly get a more lenient sentence. Instead, she orchestrates an elaborate coverup that not only results in her losing custody of her son anyway, but also gets her best friend in trouble, and her late husband's friend fired from his job as a detective.

The Stinger: Following the credits of the final part of "Turnabout Theatre" there is a scene of Sonata from "Turnabout Storm" being freed from prison, having completed her sentence and saying she's going to help those that it. Just like Phoenix did for her. Following the credits of "Crusading for a Turnabout" part 2, Sonata is seen talking with Lawkeeper Equity about the case and tomorrow's trial. Following the credits of "Crusading for a Turnabout" part 4, Lawkeeper Equity talks with Private Eye about continuing an investigation in Manehattan (and reluctantly allows his choice to keep investigating the case in Ponyville). She later passes beside a framed photograph on her desk. When viewed up close, most is blocked by the sunlight, but it shows a smiling Royal Order and what appears to be the hoof of Equity herself.

Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Apollo comments that Pinkie's songs are something you'd play for little kids. While investigating with Sonata Phoenix mentions how he used to "just rummage around whatever was in front of him". But lately he's taken on a more advanced approach of "looking at things from all angles". A nod to how the newer games allow players to explore around the 3D environments.

Big "WHAT?!": Crusading for a Turnabout after Scootaloo and Turning Page are declared Not Guilty, everybody in the defendant lobby (and the viewers themselves most likely) give this as a reaction when Princess Luna reveals the forensics results on the secondary bloodstains on the Nightmare Night Statue belong to SWEETIE BELLE and the guards promptly arrest her. Earlier in the same case, Trucy and Apollo have this reaction to the reveal that Turning Page became a second suspect in the case. Near the end of Case 2, Twilight, Luna and the Judge have this exact same reaction when Athena reveals that all of the new evidence points towards Turning Page, citing Luna's own words about a small child being the only person who could have been small enough in that scenario. It's so shocking that the entire courtroom is in an uproar.

Central Theme: As of the end of Case 2, To what point is seeking the truth the right thing to do, if in the process it ends up causing immense harm? The Wright Anything Agency is built on the foundational idea of seeking out the truth and defending the innocent, something that has served the likes of Phoenix well for all of his cases, including his previous case in Equestria. A large part of this stems from the underlying belief that the client is innocent, and that seeking the truth will inherently lead to the good for all involved except those guilty. However, the end of Case 2 reveals severe problems and limitations of this belief system as Apollo ends up noting: Namely, what happens if in seeking out the Awful Truth and exposing it without compassion for all of the potential consequences, it ends up making things worse for all involved, tearing families apart like the Order/Devotion family, destroying lives and damaging the friendships and bonds of those caught in the crossfire? What happens if the situation is infinitely more complicated than that, where those guilty are just as sympathetic and have complicated reasons that don't neatly fit into the above, or if the client is not entirely innocent or guilty, and ultimately have made terrible mistakes and decisions that muddy the water further?

"The Reason You Suck" Speech: Princess Luna delivers a scathing one to Athena (and to a lesser degree, to the whole gallery) after she accuses Zecora, pointing out that Zecora's own testimony was not conclusive, reminding Athena very coldly (and with contained but obvious anger) of what her job actually entails (ie. pointing out flaws in the prosecution's assumptions or in a witness' testimony, not blindly accusing someone of murder without any proof), and that her baseless accusation hurt not only Zecora's name, but her own as well. She only calms down after the Judge threatens her with holding her in contempt of court.

Left Hanging: In-universe, and with no bad pun intended considered how the victim died, at the end of Turnabout Theatre, pretty much everyone is left wondering why Overall Concept would take his own life, even with depression being a factor. Rarity points out that, all things considered, with Overall being at a point in his life where he was genuinely happy, it doesn't make any sense. Add to that some unresolved mysteries, such as how Suri came to know about the fabric (something which she adamently refused to reveal, and also the letter she may or may have not recieved from someone who claimed to be Coco), and Overall being conveniently distracted by something unknown long enough for Suri to steal the fabric, and it is easy to realize that these unanswered questions will be addressed in the future.

Wild Take: It doesn't happen often, but in Part 2 of Turnabout Theatre, whenever Prince Blueblood is really caught off-guard, such as Phoenix pointing out that his fabric roll evidence is incomplete or the Judge telling him off for accusing Phoenix of presenting false evidence, Prince Blueblood rears back in shock and his normally slicked-back mane and tail "flare out" briefly before slumping back down, and he then cowers with a hoof above his head. Twilight does this in part 3 of case 2 when she finds out princess Celestia asked the judge to preside over the trial. She does another one during part 8 when she realizes Sweetie Belle used Spike to send the anonymous tip, and when Athena proves there was no clone of the victim. In part 7 of case 2, Sugar Stamp hides behind her wings when she's shocked or surprised. Fair Devotion hits the witness stand with her retractable baton several times when she's angry or frustrated, and when she gets surprised or shocked she stands on her hind legs and starts bending her baton. Private Eye's wild takes are more subdued; his eyes go wide when he's surprised, and when he finally confesses to forging evidence, he takes off his hat.

Foreshadowing: During "Crusading for a Turnabout" Turning Page is warned that for interfering with the guards he could've been arrested. He is later arrested as a second suspect. Also during the same case when wondering what the "clang" Silver Spoon heard was Luna says it might've been armor from inside the castle that fell over, turns out that it WAS armor that made the clang, as Sweetie Belle was using it to scare off Timberwolves.

Wouldn't Hurt a Child: Arguably the Fatal Flaw of the conspirators of Case 2. Wanting to protect Turning Page from the consequences of accidentally murdering his father and in turn his innocence, they all formed an elaborate conspiracy to deflect the blame from him, even at times being willing to take the fall themselves. In the end, this proves All for Nothing when Athena unravels the whole thing and successfully indicts Turning anyway, in turn getting them all charged with perjury and losing Private Eye his job, showing that it would have been a lot more painless if they had simply allowed Turning to be indicted and tried their best to support him through conviction and maybe try arguing for leniency on his sentence. Their desires to protect Turning is also noted to have blinded them to the how the whole thing was a Morton's Fork, as even if their self-Frame-Up succeeded, Turning would have been left alone with no one to support him.

Secret Diary: Royal Order's travel pack also contains a planner that only has entries for 3 days where he was trying to find a way to duplicate himself in order to stay with both Fair and Sugar (or in the case he couldn't find it, to tell Sugar he ultimately chooses Fair), finds the Mirror Pool to clone himself, and to meet with Sugar Stamp that night of the murder. This and the Affair Letters are the evidence to convict Sugar of "one or both" his murders. Unfortunately, this piece of evidence turned out to be forged by Private Eye.

Harmful to Minors: Case 2 involves quite a few colts and fillies who end up in terrible situations: When Apple Bloom witnesses the pool of blood at the Nightmare Moon's statue, the sheer amount triggers a panic attack in her. Scootaloo crashes into a gravely wounded Royal Order during the night. Turns out she crashed into his corpse. Turning Page was present at the scene, actually hiding besides his father's body who he was moving after accidentally killing him. Sweetie Belle turned out to have been present in the forest the night of the murder, during which a timberwolf attacked her and hurt her so badly he nearly ripped her leg off. Silver Spoon was able to find and help Sweetie Belle in time, but had to treat a severely wounded filly and steal an extremely expensive potion to save her. Diamond Tiara found Royal Order's body, and moved it while looking for the blackmail note.

Amoral Attorney: Prosecutor Prince Blueblood, who at one point goes as far as to try and suppress evidence in order to ensure a guilty verdict. Prosecutor Princess Luna, on the other hoof, is a Subversion. Even though she starts off in a typically dismissive and sneering manner towards the defence (what with nicknaming Athena "golden pixie"), it soon becomes apparent that she's completely cooperative, trying to get to the bottom of the truth in the most ethical and systematic manner possible - inadvertently making her potentially one of the most down-to-earth prosecutors to ever be associated with the AA universe. This takes the protagonists as much off-guard as the audience. This however is Double Subverted as Luna ends up also showing herself to be quite manipulative, basically leading Athena into a specific conclusion, thus showing that while they might be more ethical in many ways, they're also not completely above shady methods. The only thing that complicates things is why they're doing this: Because they're a Friend to All Children, and thus cannot stand or face the idea that one of the younger characters involved might actually be guilty, despite the evidence later on showing that this is the case. That being said, it is ultimately a much more sympathetic reason than the usual.

So Proud of You: At the conclusion of Case 2, before Fair Devotion is arrested for perjury, and before Turning Page is sent to Military School for accidentally killing his father, Fair Devotion asks for a few minutes to say a few words to her son. She then tells Turning Page how proud she is that he grew up to be such a good pony—while he did accidentally kill his father, he spent the whole case wanting to turn himself in and take responsibility, and only went along with the cover-up to spare his mother any further emotional pain. And while he's reckless, it's because he's loyal to what he believes in and will protect those he cares about at any cost. So, while Turning Page will need to atone for his crime, Fair Devotion still believes that Turning Page has the best qualities of both her and Royal Order.

In Case 1, Coco, out of fear Phoenix refusing to defend her as it'll make his job harder, hides the fact that she and Overall Concept, the victim, were court-approved domestic partners, which would grant her legal ownership of his belongings in the event of his death and in turn gives her a strong motive to kill him. As a result, Phoenix is completely blindsided when Blueblood reveals this fact in his bid to paint her as a monster to help his case. If it wasn't for Blueblood's Evil Gloating causing him to make a Freudian Slip that Twilight picks up on, Coco would have been convicted then and there.

Shout-Out

comment
Shout-Out: The scene of Apollo coaching Rainbow Dash in his "Chords of Steel" exercises is a reference to Rainbow Dash coaching Fluttershy on how to cheer at the beginning of "Sonic Rainboom". The song featured in the closing credits of "Crusading for a Turnabout" is an English cover of "Message" by Rei Yasuda, the first ending theme of the Ace Attorney anime adaptation. The picture in the defendant lobby of Celestia and Mayor Mare is based off the art from Mulan of the Emperor shaking hands with Chi-Fu. When Athena calls Apollo's Manga collection "comics" he responds with "It's called "manga" and it's art!" After causing the CMC to fight Apollo says "I shouldn't have said that. I should NOT have said that." Luna's "Objection!" has a similar design to Barok van Zieks's "Objection!". After listening to one of the defense's theories Luna responds with "Are you sure abut that?" The Judge exclaims "Great wickering stallions!" Athena comments "Well, Excuuuuuuuuuse me, Princess!" after getting scolded by Luna. One of the ponies in the court gallery looks very much like a pony version of Hat Kid. Athena cross-examining multiple witnesses at once, complete with witnesses reaction to each other's testimony, is a reference to a mechanic introduced in Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney in which Phoenix does exactly that and was then reintroduced in The Great Ace Attorney. One of Athena's comments is a refrence to the song "Under Pressure" by Queen. After Athena tells Scootaloo that the trial was a "cakewalk" Widget calls her out with "You sit on a throne of lies!" Upon discovering that the Mirror Pool's boulder has been moved, Twilight exclaims "There was a boulder here! It's gone now!" When Rainbow Dash angrily flies off, Pinkie Pie comments that she looks like she's going to explode and not in an "I'm so excited!" way. The two Royal Guards at the beginning of the third "Bonds of Justice" story have a conversation akin to the one that kicked off Red vs. Blue. From the same video, Guard #3/Cinnamon Swirl asks Guard#1/Sterling Spade if they need to call Dr Wolf. Guard #3 teases Guard #1 about how emotional he became after reading about Lue’s death in the “The Starving Games. Private Eye mentions that "Critical thinking is the key to success." Private Eye's story about his mentor at the Equestrian Bureau of Intelligence is a reference to the My Little Investigations character Philo Reed, who would have been introduced in the game's second case if it had not been cancelled. Luna tells Athena that trust is a leap of faith. Luna says that Sweetie Belle is lucky "the bells didn't toll for her". At one point late in the second trial day of case 2, Luna quotes a line from Doctor Who nearly word for word by encouraging Athena to "go forward with your beliefs, and prove to me that I was not mistaken in mine". Sweetie Belle's breakdown animation is similar to that of Cody Hackins in the Ace Attorney case Turnabout Samurai. While Athena is using the Mood Matrix on Fair Devotion she says "Allons-y". Fair Devotion's breakdown animation is similar to that of Dee Vasquez in the Ace Attorney case Turnabout Samurai. In the first episode of Turnabout Discharge, Princess Celestia makes a mention to the play “Machoof with Overall Concept also mentioning the superstition surrounding the play’s name. And later, Princess Celestia breaks up an argument between Sonata and Trixie by telling them "You can't court here. This is a courtroom." Princess Celestia mentions that Estella Pantomimia made her debut in the Bridleway Theatre’s production of “Flash! Royale! Sonata uses “Logic Chess in order to get information from uncooperative witnesses. When Phoenix asks what Rainbow does for Wonderbolt’s training she responds with “Push-ups, sit-ups, plenty of juice, the usual wonderbolts stuff. Playwright mentions three actors that work at Bridleway Theater that are the “ponified names of real actors: Mr Hockkins, Ms Coltman, and Mr Gaitiss. When Playwright says that the police have already investigated the theater and Overall’s apartment Applejack responds with “Well, ain’t that a kick in the head. Three of the ponies in the end credits sequence for case 3 closely resemble Zipp, Pipp, and Sunny from G5. While at Keresmatic's Mare Attic Apollo notices how all the ponies are staring at them, and Trucy chimes in with that "They're just standing there, not even menacingly". While scolding Prince Blueblood Fated Pursuit mentions that he will be having a hearing with the Investigation Committee. While talking with Fated Pursuit Philo Reed mentions the phrase "Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown". In the scene when Philo Reed is deducing Apollo and Trucy's identities, he does so in the manner of Herlock Sholmes and his "dances of deduction" from The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles. When Trucy compliments Philo on another on of his deductions he replies with "Twas elementary, my dear". When Apollo makes a joke about Trucy reading too many comic books she responds with "Like you're one to talk, Mr. "I need to keep up-to-date with my Romance Dawn manga!" Sonata's investigation segments and use of the of the "Logic" mechanic are from the Ace Attorney: Investigations series. An Among Us Crewmember can be seen hidden on one of the water bottles on top of the Storage Room lockers. The book To Kill a Mockingbird can be seen on Equity's office desk. A pony Steel Samurai figurine can be seen in Luna’s office in the “Bonds of Justice short “A Plea for Strength. In the same video, Luna asks Celestia to take some time off from being a prosecutor Celestia agrees by giving her a fifteen minute break. Celestia mentions the time that she wouldn’t get out of bed to raise the sun, a reference to the fan song “Who Knows by 4everfreebrony. Some of the advice Celestia gives to Luna, “You’ve got to think ahead and carry out the things you’ve planned, is a reference to the fan song “Sinking Ships by SlyphStorm.

Video Game Demake: Of the "mock-up" variety, in a way. The Ace Attorney continuity takes place after Dual Destinies but the characters' sprites are taken from previous pre-Video Game 3D Leap installment Apollo Justice. Custom sprites are used for Athena and Phoenix (in his updated look) in order to match the style of the others. Starting with part 3 of "Crusading for a Turnabout", this was changed to using 3D models for all the Ace Attorney characters, pulled from Spirit of Justice.

Call-Forward: While discussing how Pinkie Pie was able to plan a party while still being able to catch the train to Manehattan, Trucy mentions that she just has a great work ethic and that Apollo could learn a thing or two from her. He then responds that he'll consider taking lessons once he has a couple hundred clients. Applebloom mentions once she and her friends get their cutie marks Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon won't be laughing at them then. Twilight talks about how her new castle doesn't feel like home. Scootaloo mentions that her parents study dangerous animals and rare plants so she stays with her aunts when they're gone and how her parents were once part of a secret monster agency in Canterlot. Big Mac and Granny Smith are out of town visiting relatives in Hollow Shades. Applebloom mentions that since Diamond Tiara's father, Filthy Rich, is so busy her mother looks after her and thinks she doesn't really care about how her daughter treats the CMC. Twilight mentions that the most serious punishments tend to result in banishment outside of Equestria, which can range from expulsion from Equestrian borders or imprisonment in Tartarus. The prosecutor Athena faces in court is Princess Luna, one of the sitting rulers of Equestria. It won't be the last time a member of the Wright Anything Agency see the current leader of a country acting as a prosecutor. Luna mentions that Spoiled Rich is president of the school board. When Athena begins having a minor Heroic BSoD a vision of Simon Blackquill gives her the motivation to continue. This isn't the last time he would be there to encourage her. Athena's vision of Blackquill mentions he has a more refined taste for noodles than the kind Athena and the Wright Anything Agency usually eat. A nod to his love of Soba. Diamond Tiara comforts Silver Spoon over her absent, workaholic parents showing that she's more than just a bully. During the flashback trial Celestia mentions that it’s been awhile since she’s seen a production or performed in one. Sonata makes a mental not to "Not Poke the Bugbear" while talking with Spitfire. During Equity and Philo's talk she says that "It's more sensible to ask a dragon to perform SLAM poetry in a coffee shop" when he requests that Trucy be given an Equestrian attorney badge.

Art Evolution: Part 3 of "Crusading for a Turnabout" upgraded the Ace Attorney characters from 2D sprites pulled from Apollo Justice (and fan-made ones for Athena and DD-era Phoenix) to their 3D models from Spirit of Justice.

Laser-Guided Amnesia: In "Turnabout Theatre", Coco Pommel was knocked out when the crime occurred, meaning her memories of the event are hazy. She remembers everything just in time to jump to Suri's defense when she's accused.

April Fools' Day: In 2019, a video was released where TheAljavis apologized and claimed he was quitting the project since he was burned out. Afterwards, he immediately says he was joking and the first episode is almost done. In 2022, there was a special episode with a different art style that played out as a dating simulator where you play as Athena falling in love with Twilight, rather than a normal Ace Attorney game. In 2023, another episode was released in the style of a Pokémon game where Sonata and Phoenix are turned into Pokémon.

Motive = Conclusive Evidence: A sizeable portion of Prosecutor Blueblood's case in Turnabout Theatre relies on establishing Coco Pommel's motive - to the point where he is willing to skip the examination of other evidence to press the point. Naturally, ultimately nothing comes of it.

Malicious Slander: Invoked in the first trial when Blueblood attacks Coco Pommel's character after her initial testimony. To his credit, the judge agrees with Phoenix's assessment and calls for Blueblood to refrain from such remarks in the future.

Darkest Hour: The ending of Case 2-9. Despite Athena having won two cases and gotten 3 different clients acquitted, It is revealed that Turning Page, one of her first two clients, was the true culprit, and that Fair Devotion, Sugar Stamp, and Private Eye were all complicit in covering up that fact. As punishment, Turning is shipped off to military school (since he can't be retried for murder due to the rule of Double Jeopardy), Fair loses custody of her son, Private loses his job, and everyone involved with the cover-up is likely to serve quite a bit of jail time. On top of that, it is revealed that the one who informed the police about Turning in the first place was Sweetie Belle, which drives a rift between her and Scootaloo, and by extension between them both and Applebloom, and by further extension between Rarity, Rainbow Dash and Applejack, and by even FURTHER extension the members of the Mane Six AND the Wright Anything Agency, both collectively and individually. And then, almost as if solely to rub salt in the wound, Lawkeeper Equity shows up to arrest Rarity on the charge of murdering Overall Concept.
