MrBeast is the YouTube channel name and alias of American YouTuber James "Jimmy" Stephen Donaldson (born May 7, 1998). He started mostly making Minecraft videos, then talking about other YouTubers, and then gaining notoriety for making fun of other YouTubers' intros, before getting known for videos where he does really absurd things. For instance: Counting to 100,000 in one go. Microwaving a microwave. Watching Dance 'til You're Dead for 10 hours.MrBeast (the person) is also known for his philanthropy, giving away massive amounts of cash to people in need through giveaways and challenges on MrBeast (the channel), such as Last to Leave Circle wins $10,000. These usually involve his friends (Kris, Karl and Chandler) competing, though sometimes other people participate, too. MrBeast's content nowadays is mostly about these things, taken to the extreme. Some more recent videos of his include: Buying the entire contents of a supermarket, and then donating all the food to a homeless shelter. 10 people competing for a $730,000 private island. Meeting up with his 40,000,000th subscriber, and giving him 40 cars to give away to his friends and family. The MrBeast channel can be found here. The creator has other channels, including a shorts channel, a gaming channel, a channel for miscellaneous insanity, a channel for his very own charity and even a set of official channels that edit and dub his videos into other languages, including Arabic, Bengali, French, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Thai, Turkish and Vietnamese. As of 2023, he instead uses the new Audio Track feature for YouTube to accomplish translations, now having dubs in languages like Japanese and Korean.

The Cameo: After featuring prominently on the gaming channel, Dream makes a voice-only cameo at the end of "Extreme $100,000 Game of Tag" when he's informed via phone about Sapnap's victory. Before this, he also had a (once again voice-only) cameo in "I Bought the World's Largest Mystery Box", where he's responsible for assembling the $50,000 box. Video essayist and filmmaker Patrick (H) Willems and his friend Dave Wiskus are two of the GameStop customers that appear in "Anything You Can Fit In The Triangle I'll Pay For" — Willems is the one who breaks out a tape measurer to fit items into the triangle.

Chekhov's Gag: In the "Last to Leave Tesla, Keeps It" video, Chandler (in the middle of a long losing streak) states that he's waiting for the biggest prize. Kris notes how absurd this is, as there have already been a house and a mini-yacht as prizes… but Chandler would eventually make good on this statement by winning a private island.

Jimmy has a smaller recording room in his studio that is frequently filled with printed-out memes as a Funny Background Event. In "Donating $.10 for Every Subscriber," one such meme is a picture of another printed-out Image Macro featuring the bugle person from Courage the Cowardly Dog's finale; the text simply reads "OUTBACK STEAKHOUSE." Given the context of the scene, it's a rather unsubtle way of saying the restaurant chain is subpar.

Special Guest: In Jimmy's gaming channel, Dream appears in some of his videos and is one of the two main characters in the Dream VS Technoblade $100,000 duel. In fact, the continued existence of the gaming channel is because of Dream, as one of the challenges had the stakes of the gaming channel getting deleted if they lost. (The challenge consisted of 100 players hunting down the MrBeast team while Dream defended them; if all four got killed within 15 minutes, the channel would have been deleted.) Sapnap appears as one of the competitors in "Extreme $100,000 Game of Tag". He's also the eventual winner. Technoblade also once appeared in "I Survived 100 Days Of Hardcore Minecraft!". Only to be blown up by a TNT he was not aware was lit and get permabanned for dying in a hardcore game. In his Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory video, he had competitive eaters Matt Stonie and Joey Chestnut, as well as none other than Gordon Ramsay.

Awesome, but Impractical: Some prizes are really cool on the surface, but aren't worth keeping. Fortunately, they are still very valuable and can be sold for money. Some good examples include Chandler having to sell the private island he won due to the amount of taxes he has to pay or the winner of the chocolate factory selling it back to MrBeast due to the cost of its maintenance. It's even acknowledged by him in an interview. He's aware that his lavish prizes come with many taxes so he gives winners a choice to sell them back to him for a more practical cash prize.

The Last Of These Is Not Like The Others: His Squid Game video is a pretty faithful recreation of the series (minus the death) with all of the iconic games…except for the final one "Squid Game", which is instead replaced with Musical Chairs. Jimmy justifies this by telling the remaining contestants to raise their hands if they know how to play Squid Game. Nobody raises their hands.

For the Marbles game, the players are forced to team up with their closest associates during the games instead of allowing them to pick their partner that they have to fight against. Again, this is to keep the original spirit of the game, since most contestants would know they wouldn't want to pair up with your friends in this game. However, there was a workaround to this, as some contestants actively avoided forming friendships or sticking around the same person during the games for this specific reason, and were subsequently paired with a random person.

In the first challenge he did win, he got $30,000 bonus cash on top of the $20,000 the challenge awarded. Fans of Mr. Beast like to make fun of him for losing a lot of challenges. Karl is frequently the subject of humiliation from others. In some of his videos, he gives away money for free like it's nothing via donating to Twitch Streamers without viewers, made a "free money!" bank and basically gives away cash to friends, family and even random strangers. He isn't only on the giveaway cash deeds, he gave away houses to a homeless person and a pizza delivery guy, made all dogs and puppies in an adoption center have loving homes and the famous Team Trees project of planting 20 MILLION TREES. Usually, his helping out comes across as more of a Wealthy Philanthropist. Plus, he is a quaint and friendly individual.

Can't Get Away with Nuthin': Jimmy goes by some very basic, very common sense rules when organizing gaming events. Between him and either Karl or Kris overseeing player behavior, people cheating in Minecraft are very quickly caught and banned from the server. Note that this does include his friends; Karl once busted Chandler using the teleport command to catch up to another player who had performed a Sequence Break in the maze challenge via a provided Ender Pearl, and Jimmy immediately banned Chandler from the server. (Jimmy reinstated him later, and it was played as being all in good fun rather than a genuine Disappointed in You moment).

Moving the Goalposts
 MrBeast (Web Video) / int_7df2b942
comment
Moving the Goalposts: Jimmy will modify rules or (in games) drop items that give one side or the other an advantage. This has a basis in reason: sometimes, the games that he has assembled have ground to a halt because the players have somehow stalemated. For challenges in real life, rules that increase the chances a person is eliminated from the competition so that a single winner can be determined. For hide-and-seek, he declares part of the field off-limits so that he has a better chance of finding people and narrowing down the winner (otherwise, people have proven to be quite efficient at hiding and being impossible for him to find even when he has others helping; the competition could potentially go on for days). For others which tests people's endurance ("Last with a hand on…" or "Last to leave…"), when the action and trash talk has died, giving people things to play with and giving them enticements to leave help speed up the game and declare a winner. For game challenges, particularly in Minecraft, Jimmy and his crew like to toss players items to at least make the action pick up and help make declaring a winner happen sooner. When it's just his friends playing a competition among themselves, he will at least try to keep the score even. Example  When pitting Chandler and Kris against Karl and Nolan, Chandler and Kris won the first two of a series of games quickly. In order to make the score even, Jimmy gave Nolan a laser in a game where the two sides were supposed to be using multi-arrow launchers at one another (which let Nolan light half the map on fire). Later, Jimmy gave Karl and Nolan water buckets to save their landing after having handed Chandler and Kris an easy method of dispatching them with rocket launchers.

Adaptational Nice Guy

Adaptational Nice Guy: In his real-life recreation of Squid Game, the guards are a lot more affable than they were in the show. They act more like referees than just executioners, and they laugh and joke along with the contestants, whereas in the original show, they were pretty much silent and they wore face coverings (downplayed on that last one since outside of Kris, Karl and Chandler, they still do wear masks). By extension, Mr. Beast himself, given that the original man who started the games doesn't have a high opinion of the people competing in the games or the people MrBeast normally helps out. Even the game itself is this trope. Aside from the obvious fact that no one dies in this version, the original Squid Games only give money to the families of losing players on the condition that the majority the players agree to stop playing, whereas everyone who participated in the games here was given $1,000 as compensation for filming complications the first day of play, and every eliminated player from the second game onwards walks away with $2,000+. The person who got second place was also awarded $10,000. Gordon Ramsay appears in his Charlie and the Chocolate Parody to supervise the contestants while they're making a dessert and, while he is otherwise known for screaming at underperforming chefs and letting loose enough Flowery Insults to give the Keukenhof a run for its money, here, he is a lot more easy on the contestants, simply reminding them that they might not have the time they need to make what they're going for, as well as actively asking a contestant if he's OK when he admits he's stressed. Even when he has to spit out their food while tasting it due to how rushed they ended up being, he doesn't lose it with them at all. Justified, because these people aren't running a restaurant where it's vitally important to give good service to customers, and Gordon Ramsay is actually very mild-mannered and patient when not dealing with his usual peers.

Didn't Think This Through: In his recent Tag and Hide-and-Seek videos, Jimmy keeps questioning why did he keep renting large stadiums as venues for the said games. In his defense, he does shrink the area and gather his friends and/or former players to help him search the active players as the games progress throughout the videos. One button push in Press This Button To Win $100,000! gives Chandler the choice of nominating one person to not be allowed to press the button for ten pushes. He immediately chooses himself in order to avoid the punishments. Jimmy quickly points out that, for all he knows, one of those ten presses could be the $100K and Chandler just disqualified himself from it. Chandler has to sit to one side and wait for the button to be pressed ten times before he can resume. To his fortune, the money didn't come up. In "I Survived 24 Hours Straight In Ice", Jimmy quickly regrets the challenge once he's inside the ice house. It is 24°F, he goes in wearing a hoodie over a t-shirt and sweat pants, and his friends are more inclined to force him to leave (not unreasonable; they don't want to have syrup dumped on them if Jimmy succeeds) than provide more than food and frustration. He secretly bribes a cameraman for his gloves and a few other items to help him out.

Occasionally heralded by Jimmy saying, "I think you know where I'm going with this." Even his staff can be seen having these moments when they appear on camera. Tareq, one of the cameramen, has seen about as much as Jimmy's regular crew. Jeff, the sound guy, can be seen having one when Jimmy starts taking his equipment from him without explanation while standing in front of a box filled with bundles of money and about a dozen cockroaches.

As another jab at chain restaurants, "Press This Button To Win $100,000" has forcing you to eat from Arby's be one of the punishments. To really rub it in, Chandler lets out a Big "NO!" when it comes up.

Obvious Rule Patch
 MrBeast (Web Video) / int_b89ed08a
comment
Obvious Rule Patch: Happens four times in his Squid Game video. Instead of players being able to see which shape they're picking in the second game, the shapes are instead hidden since most of the contestants will have watched the show and know what they're playing in advance, meaning most of them would just pick the easiest shapes. Because the contestants are not chained to the rope during the Tug-of-War game, the objective of the game was adjusted to allow bringing the middle flag over to their platform in order to win, instead of merely pulling their opponents off the platform. For the Glass Bridge game, the vests are numbered in Korean, again, because the contestants likely know what they're playing in advance. During the game itself, the ordering system is also different. Larger numbers are required to go ahead of smaller numbers after enough correct guesses to put a stop to lower numbers refusing to move at all. The surviving contestants still have steak dinner before the last game, but instead with plastic knives instead of silverware. Played for Laughs, as it was quite clear no one would have to worry about contestants stabbing each other for real in this game, and the plastic utensils were more of a joke than anything. December 12th, 2022 marked a change in MrBeast's Minecraft challenges to forbid anyone who tests a challenge format from being selected for the real videos. As compensation, going to tests raises the odds of being selected for a format they did not attend.

Cool and Unusual Punishment: A staple of competitions between him and his friends. Anything from placing peanut butter in one's shoes and being forced to walk with them on to standing on the side of the road wearing a ridiculous costume and holding an equally ridiculous sign, Jimmy has found amusing ways of humiliating his friends and even himself, as he is not above taking a punishment he has offered out to others. Taken to an extreme in "Push This Button to Win $100,000", in which every button push can either be a punishment or a reward. Most of them are punishments, starting with Kris having to wear pants with mayonnaise and increasing in ridiculousness as the video continues.

Loud of War: Whenever Jimmy has put himself into an endurance challenge, part of his friends' strategy is to holler a lot or play sounds that aggravate Jimmy. Serial Escalation: His philanthropy and cash giveaways have gotten larger and larger as MrBeast has gotten bigger; one of his earliest giveaways only gave away $1000 in one video, but they expanded until he was giving away $1,000,000 in a single video. Sometimes he'll redo challenges with bigger prize pools. He did a hide and seek challenge for $50,000, then did it again for $60,000, then again for $70,000. One video had Jimmy and his cohort buy every single item in a store. In a later video, he did the same thing to five other stores in a row. This backfires on him big time when he promises to sign every single limited edition shirt that is bought.

Running Gag: Anytime someone throws or drops an object or a person falls over, they are consumed by an explosion before the camera cuts. Player kills are often heralded by the "teammate fall" beep found in Fortnite. Especially when the game is not Fortnite. Similarly, references to racing are often made using sound effects from the later Mario Kart games. Using babies (actually baby dolls). When not being used to break things, Jimmy occasionally has his friends punished by throwing baby dolls at them. Calling attention to when the numbers "69" or "420" / "4/20" pop up. In the meantime, someone brought him a board so that he could press the button again only to be forced to not push the button until he urinates. This results in Karl eventually consuming enough water to pee in a bucket which is subsequently left in the room. Later, Karl is handcuffed to Ethan, one of their staff, and presses the button again only to have to paint one of the walls. As Karl and Ethan are coming down off a ladder, Ethan starts shouting at Karl because the bucket of pee had been knocked over and Ethan stepped through it.
