While Blake's tragic past and mental issues in the original show could cause some tense situations, they are downright tame in comparison to Catgirl's. It's implied that she's so disgusted with her former actions that she refused to call herself "Blake" for quite some time. With Ruby's increased awareness and biting comments, her interactions with Weiss are a lot more harsh than they were in the original series. Ruby's backstory is a quite a bit darker here than in the original. While she had a family that loved her and that she loved in the original series, Ruby is very dismissive of her family, calling both Yang and Qrow worthless, she's homeless and very cynical.
