 The Mighty Jingles (Real Name: Paul Charlton, formerly BohemianEagle) is a YouTube personality and Twitch streamer whose YouTube channel generally consists of Let's Play style videos of games such as World of Tanks, World of Warships and War Thunder among other games. Known for his catchphrases, humorous commentary and tendency to snark at the stupidity of some players, he's amassed around 648,000 subscribers and over 410 million views on his channel. He's expressed surprise at just how popular he's become - one visit to an event at the Bovington Tank Museum became an impromptu (and very extended) meet and greet as hundreds of people queued up to say hello and have photos taken with him. He's wised up since then and now has the venue set things up in advance for him.Is good friends with fellow YouTube players Quicky Baby amongst others and often plays with him (though he's stepped away from livestreaming, see Celebrity Is Overrated below). He was briefly engaged to Rita Gamer up until March 2017 (though the two still remain friends). As of August 2022 they became roommates again.You can find his channel here - [1]. His Twitch channel can be found here - [4].Howdy tropes: Added Alliterative Appeal: One of his World of Tanks videos was titled "The Mystery of the Missing Medium on Malanovka". April Fools: In 2016, Jingles posted a video highlighting what various online games were doing to celebrate the occasion, and even got in on the act himself. And on the World of Warships website, one of the April Fools jokes was a fake The Mighty Jingles signal flag with "stats" based on recommendations by Jingles himself.note Namely, a 10% chance to misidentify a detected ship (caption: “Looks like an Aoba to me!” – The Mighty Jingles, being mistaken in his videos since 2011.) and a 15% increase in the chance of setting enemy ships on fire if they're shot in the rear (a subtle reference to his "surprise buttsex!" catchphrase). Ascended Fanboy: Did a live official commentary for a World of Tanks match in Wargaming Pro League 2015. He was also part of a team invited to play an exhibition match of World of Warships at the 2016 event, and has been an official War Gaming EU Community Contributor for some time. As of Patch 0.8.5 of WOWs, Jingles is now an obtainable captain with his own voice lines Attack! Attack... Retreat! Retreat!: A variation, while sailing HMS Campbeltown where his plan goes from from 'courageous early capture attempt' to 'run away' in short order. The replay episode "World of Tanks - Personal Best" has the 2nd replay of the video featuring "Dave" in the Tier X AMX 13 105 Light Tank on the Prokhorovka map. "Dave" of course goes to spot from the famous bush used for passive scouting only to immediately get spotted by the opposing team's Manticore and getting immediately targeted by half of the enemy team provoking this reaction from "Dave". Things end up going hilariously wrong for "Dave". Bring My Brown Pants: Repeatedly referenced during his aborted Alien: Isolation playthrough. Captain Crash: As enthusiastic as he is about flying planes in games like War Thunder, he's a little less gifted in the area of bringing them back down safely. He's so notorious for it that the community has taken to calling any particularly hard landing that loosens rivets, stitches, and dental fillings a Jingles Landing. In one particularly memorable instance, he managed to crash-land a submarine on the ocean floor while playing Cold Waters. After reading this article to his audience for a video and mentioning that he was never going to live down crashing a submarine, Jingles has managed to reach new depths of improbability courtesy of Subnautica: he has successfully crash-landed a Seamoth in such a fashion as to land-lock it...on the wreckage of the Aurora. The most amusing part is that this isn't the first Seamoth he's lost either. We can now add multiple ships from Elite Dangerous One time, because Jingles left to go make himself some tea and left his ship on cruise control thinking he had plenty of time to spare before he arrived at the space station, only to come back and go Oh, Crap! at seeing his ship repeatedly bouncing off of the station, taking collision damage and beginning to gain the ire of the station crew. Another time, because he was making a series of long range jumps, had stripped down the ship to its bare basics. Just as he proceeded to prepare for landing, he realized at the last moment he had removed the flight assist and shield modules from his ship, and therefore was not automatically firing the retro thrusters and Newtonian Physics were in full effect, before turning his ship and the landing pad into a new crater. He bought himself a Imperial ship he was grinding to unlock, and in his joy at finally attaining the ship he absolutely was excited to get, took it out immediately without refitting it, got himself into a combat situation, overloaded his power systems and got destroyed easily. While investigating a Thargoid crash site in an SRV rover to recover research material for an engineer he was trying to unlock, he managed to get one of the wheels stuck under part of the debris, forcing him to reload his save While out in Colonia, Jingles decided to make the trip to Sagittarius A*, the Super Massive Black Hole at the center of our galaxy. Again, he stripped down an Asp Explorer to its essentials to maximize jump range and speed, went to a Neutron Star system to supercharge his Frame-Shift Drive, and proceeded to get interdicted by an NPC pirate ship while in its jet cone, which dropped both of their ships into Real Space, inside the Neutron Star's Exclusion Zone and stuck Jingle's ship into a Cycle of Hurting, before the gravity and damage destroyed his cockpit window and forced him to spend 5 minutes on basic life support before his ship was destroyed. Jingles reaction was one very salty You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me! at the pirate's sheer suicidal stupidity getting them both killed. Catchphrase: "Howdy folks", "Take care (on that battlefield) and I'll catch you next time", "To the salt mines with him/her!"," Didn't see that one coming, did you, Rommel?", "If it's stupid and it works, it's not stupid", "Surprise buttsex! (Best kind of buttsex!)" (on one player getting behind another and unloading shells into/ramming their generally lesser armoured back) often followed by "It is much better to give than to receive" or some variation thereof, "Broadside on to a battleship? That's a paddlin'.", "A wild [x] appears!", "Once it leaves the tube, Mr Torpedo is not your, or anyone else's, friend", "Just a Gneisenau captain doing Gneisenau things", "TOG is not proud" and "Om nom nom nom nom" (usage reserved for the TOG II) and more. Cats Are Mean: Akizuki the cat is more than happy to throw shade at the poor performance of players, or so Jingles would have you believe. Celebrity Is Overrated: Minor example - he's generally stopped livestreaming when playing MMOs as too many people were using it to track him down and try and kill him on the battlefields. It's also sometimes an issue in general play but to a lesser extent and he has sometimes used it to his advantage to lure trigger happy enemy players into traps. He occasionally changes his Wargaming username because of this, but since those names are always references to things he likes there will invariably be fans who recognize him even before his next replay airs with the new in-game name. He's also at the point where he has to be a bit careful about how visible he is at public events as so many people want to come up and say hello and he's worried about people's safety - he cancelled a meet and greet on a trip to New York as he wasn't sure how many people might turn up and didn't want to disappoint anyone who didn't get to meet him and as it was technically a holiday didn't want to spend hours "working". Chronically Crashed Car: Jingles seems to have the worst luck with submarines in general. In Cold Waters, he lost both the USS San Francisco and USS Hyman G. Rickover to torpedo strike (the second was considerably more fatal and game-ending than the first), then ended up (infamously) crash landed the USS Jacksonville after it survived a torpedo strike, but took on several hundred gallons of Atlantic ocean in the bargain. In Subnautica, Jingles also manages to lose submarines. He lost his first Seamoth minisub in an encounter with a Leviathan—which apparently resulted in the Leviathan eating the Seamoth and crapping it out on the ocean floor. A clear loss. The second Seamoth beached, glitched out, and left him stranded on the burning, radioactive wreck of Aurora with only a futuristic water-scooter to help get him back to to his lifepod... with a Reaper Leviathan between him and safety. The third Seamoth was nearly eaten by angry Bonesharks, then nearly smashed to pieces by a ghost Leviathan (and narrowly avoided drawing the extremely unwanted attention of a nearby Crabsquid). It finally met its fate when Jingles found himself cornered in a cave and the highly aggressive Boneshark chasing him destroyed it. Finally, he most recently lost a very expensive and partially upgraded Cyclops submarine and its Prawn suit when he didn't pay attention to where he was driving and wandered out into the Dead Zone beyond the caldera, whereupon the HMS TOG was promptly sunk by two highly territorial Ghost Leviathans. Cluster F-Bomb: Can occasionally let loose with these when particularly incensed, such as when he's had an exceptionally bad streak of disastrous matches in War Thunder or World of Tanks. Cool Old Guy/Younger Than They Look: He's not even 50 yet (he was born in 1970), but claims to look 64 on account of his time in the Royal Navy. Cute Machines: Considers the Panzer II Luchs far and away the cutest little tank in World of Tanks and often posts videos of it. The Day the Music Lied: Happens in this World of Warships replay of a player in the Tier X German battleship Großer Kurfürst. The player was having a decent match, if dealing with absolutely befuddling damage rolls courtesy of the RNG mockingly giving him high damage overpenetrations, but low or no damage (Module damage only) penetrating hits. Then an enemy battleship Yamato appears and the Space Battleship Yamato 2199 theme begins to play as usual, only for this to happen. Deadpan Snarker: Oh so much - it's rare to find one of his commentaries that doesn't have snarky comments about ineffective or plain stupid actions by players. A particular target of his snark are battleship drivers in World of Warships who constantly steam in straight lines and thus eat full spreads of torpedoes. For example, he suggests that battleship players think rudders exist to stabilize a ship so it can sail in a straight line. Conversely he's also happy to snark at players who sail broadside on to said battleships and eat full salvos of armour piercing shells with similar results. Department of Redundancy Department: Jingles has a habit of explaining the same things twice in one video. Sometimes only minutes or seconds apart. The Elevator from Ipanema: The music is often played when there's 'lets wait for something to happen' moments during replays. Often punctuated by Jingles asking if anyone brought a pack of cards and ending with a Record Scratch. Epic Fail: So much as he has a YouTube playlist dedicated to these kinds of outcomes. He also has "Epic Win" videos, but as Jingles has acknowledged, an Epic Win for one player is almost always an Epic Fail for somebody else. On a smaller note his "The Good, The Bad, The Ugly" videos seem to feature at least some form of this. In 2021, Jingles began a series of videos titled "A Game of Throws" for battles in which an entire team achieves an Epic Fail by throwing away decisive advantages and losing a battle that should be impossible to lose, or both teams are seemingly competing over who can screw up worse and throw the game. Thanks to the origin of the title, he's produced two "seasons" of World of Warships episodes, along with individual World of Tanks and War Thunder editions. Flat "What": Jingles' elation at completing That One Level in Cold Waters becomes this when the game bugs out and doesn't give him the mission complete response because of objective dependency, after which his response is quite understandable. Gone Horribly Wrong: If he isn't highlighting it in a replay, he's possibly the one suffering at watching his plans go to hell. During his playthrough of Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, he gets into a fight with the Spartan lieutenant Stentor and decides to try and finish the fight quickly via Spartan Kicking Stentor off a cliff. And it succeeds! Only to send him into a convenient pond of Soft Water. So Jingles chases after Stentor via and Leap of Faith into the water, gets out and continues to fight Stentor. Which is also in the middle of the Spartan army camp. All of which just after Jingles, playing as Kassandra, had just betrayed Sparta and killed the Spartan General Nikolas. Hulk Speak: Tends to talk like this when using the TOG II in World of Tanks. Husky Russkie: Ocassionally uses a slightly butchered Russian accent whenever he features a Russian tank. Bonus points if the tank in question is either a KV-2 Heavy, or an ISU-152 Tank destroyer. Exemplified with one of his emergency videos. The Jinx: "The Jingles Effect", which is noted as being whenever Jingles shows up in another person's stream or while they're playing a game, something seems to go spectacularly and hilariously wrong for that person. As demonstrated (twice) by Rita and explained by Jingles in this video. Killer Rabbit: His beloved Panzer II Luchs might be cute but it's autocannon means it can dish out a pretty decent amount of burst damage and it's speed and manouverability lets him dodge the enemy return fire while he reloads. He's used it to very good effect in many videos. Let's Dance: Invoked during some of his "Why You Heff To Be Ships"note Why You Heff To Be Mad, but World of Warships version. If you see an GIF of Sherlock removing his scarf with the words in question appear, and Carnaval Para A Bala starts playing, expect the next few minutes to be of a player turn into a One Ship Fleet and proceed to wreck a very sizable portion of the enemy team, while practically dancing around torpedoes, air strikes, and enemy shells. All while getting into a close range brawl with several of the enemy. This has become his go-to for "torpedobeats" clips in World of Warships compilation videos, especially instances where a the player has a ridiculous number of incoming torpedoes to dodge. Lemony Narrator: Whenever he features a replay, expect him to be very, very hammy. The Nicknamer: Has coined a plethora of nicknames in relation to the games that he features on his page. Subverted though with "Bert the Avenger": while he might have had a hand in popularizing it, the actual coiner thereof was his fellow Fandom VIP Circonflexes (aka SirCircon) Preemptive "Shut Up": Does this whenever states something he knows he's going to receive a flood of comments or emails for giving info that's incorrect or the wrong terminology, or at least a conflicting opinion on something. He will immediately impersonate a higher pitched nasally voice starting to correct him, before interrupting it with a quick deadpan/annoyed "Oh shut up". Rage Quit: One of his Cold Waters videos has him pulling this after executing a seemingly flawless Tomahawk cruise missile strike on a Russian naval base, only to be greeted by a "mission failed" result screen. Cue Jingles storming out of the room and the rest of the video consisting of gameplay footage from Hello Kitty Online. Running Gag: His habit of having an absolutely awesome match, only to have the rest of his team fail, leading to a draw or lost match. "Actually Jingles, the (correct fact/opposing opinion here) is..." "Oh shut up". His first run of "Why You Heff To Be Mad?" videos (prior to the series' restart in June 2016, with the existing videos deleted out of fear of copyright strikes) had a recurring bit where a KV-series heavy tank (usually a KV-2 or KV-5) would ram an unsuspecting victim from an overhead cliff, the initial arrival marked by "Psycho" Strings followed by a Godzilla roar as the KV crushed the hapless victim. Although in one of these videos The Dog Bites Back and an American tank did this to a KV-5. "God dammit Billy!" Explanation In Jingle's playthrough of XCOM 2, he sets up a squad of "Ultimate Badasses" based off of himself and his friends among the YouTube and Twitch gaming personalities, such as RitaGamer, Quickybaby, Circonflexis, Ike, and others. After he unlocks the 6-member squad deployment upgrade, he declares his team needs a scapegoat to take all the blame when things inevitably go wrong (which, being XCOM, is quite often) or when he screws up (which, being Jingles, is quite often). The thankless job is handed to Billy "Scapegoat" Warren, with regular shouts of the above line, or variations there of. The real Billy Warren regular comments on the XCOM videos and jokes about it and plays it up. Anyone who gets their replay featured in a video with a name Jingles can't pronounce is invariably referred to as "Dave". Starting in fall of 2016, whenever the "Kraken Unleashed" award (5 kills) is achieved in a World of Warships video, Jingles began to insert a clip of the kraken roaring in Clash of the Titans (2010), though he's since dropped this, possibly for copyright reasons. Predominantly being used in World Of Tanks, he refers to any players (in this case, usually super heavies) who just sit at the back and do nothing useful as "sniffing glue". Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Stated in episode #152 of Mingles with Jingles that he's pretty much done with War Thunder due to Gaijin Entertainment's reaction to fellow YouTuber PhlyDaily's video exposing the use of hacks in the game.Explanation Said reaction being to force PhlyDaily to remove the video for "promoting illegal modifications" then briefly posting a poll on the War Thunder forums giving players the choice between giving Gaijin Entertainment permission to use copyright claims to censor War Thunder content on YouTube or implementing target markers in realistic battle mode, essentially turning it into arcade mode. Jingles quite correctly pointed out that it would be suicidal for someone who relies on their YouTube channel to make a living, as he does, to expose themselves to potentially having the channel deleted due to unwarranted copyright violation reports and false DMCA takedown requests. This was later reversed almost a year later when Jingles made his triumphant return. Several of his World of Tanks and World of Warships videos will have players attempting to do this when finding themselves in unfavorable situations. Jingles will often point this out by quoting Cartman from South Park ("Screw you guys, I'm going home!") or saying that they're "taking Billy Bigsteps in the other direction". Subverted in response to Wargaming's response to the SirFoch debacle in May 2017; while Jingles did ultimately resign his position as one of Wargaming's EU Community Contributors, he said he will still continue to post World of Warships and World of Tanks content. This was clearly influenced by Wargaming's top officials for all their regional offices (apparently at the behest of the CEO) apologizing and stating under no uncertain terms that no one in the company was ever to censor YouTubers by threatening copyright strikes again. This is also what inspired Jingles to give War Thunder a second chance, since Gaijin seemingly learned their lesson from their own copyright strike debacle. Self-Deprecation: One of Jingles most common forms of humor. He often describes his skills at playing the games he covers as being those of a "dirty, scrub-lord, noob". On his XCOM 2 playthrough, he cheerfully admits that he's gotten a number of "Flawless" Mission results, despite making every textbook mistake he possibly could through sheer dumb luck. And throughout his own replays, he will mention he knows someone in the comment section of his videos is going to reply to some of the things he's done with "Jingles, you noob!" Hence his idea of a "Jingles Moment". Tempting Fate: Has a nasty habit of falling victim to this during his single player games, such as his XCOM 2 playthroughs. His enthusiasm to go submarine cruising comes back to bite him in the arse while playing Subnautica. Third-Person Person: Combined with Hulk Speak, when commentating on TOG II replays, he will resort to this. Too Dumb to Live: Name dropped in the title of the 18 March 2022 video. It has to be seen to be believed. Took a Level in Badass: For all his Self-Deprecation and occasional mistake, Jingles is pretty good at World of Warships, especially in Destroyers. His own Battleship game replays feature him regular able to back up his right to call out other BB Captains for being "big, stupid, fat battleship drivers who sail in straight lines" and eat full salvos of torpedoes, as demonstrated here with the first half of this video with him using the Tier 2 IJN Battleship Mikasa. His XCOM 2 skills have improved as well with each replay, making far fewer mistakes than he used to. While this certainly applies to his entire A-Team/"Squad of Ultimate Badasses", the one who's taken the most levels in badass goes to none other than Billy "Scapegoat" Warren. First added into the squad as his nickname implies, purely to take the blame when things inevitably went wrong, he's received more praise as the campaign has progressed. Jingles eventually remade Billy's character into a Psionic Operative, who now regularly tears apart ADVENT squads with ease. The Unpronounceable: The reason why there are so many replay videos featuring "Dave" as the star. Providing a pronunciation guide or requesting to be called an alternative name when one submits the replay only just guarantees the player will be called "Dave". Vitriolic Best Buds: Occasionally plays to this when on the opposing team from fellow YouTube gamers, where he and his opponent(s) will trash-talk each other quite intensely yet still remain friends after the dust settles.
