Elias, a human, is coerced into committing atrocities by Andrew, a powerful demon who has seized control over him and the world in every way except possession, with the ultimate goal of "purifying" the human race of magic and intelligence beyond that of other animals. Elias tries to help the rebellion behind Andrew's back, as he feels guilty every day of his life for what he has done and feels like he has to make up for it somehow.Advertisement:propertag.cmd.push(function() { proper_display('tvtropes_mobile_ad_1'); })

Deal with the Devil: Many years prior to the events of the story, Elias took up Andrew's job offer. Then he ended up, uh, in a bit of a bind...

Feud Episode: The first episode is mostly Andrew talking at Elias about how angry he is that Elias burnt the soup, while Elias just sits there fearing for his life, occasionally snapping at him out of bottled-up anger. They don't end up making up by the end, though. Elias just submits to him.

comment
Our Demons Are Different: Demons are less morally-aligned in this universe. They don't care about good or bad. They have no concept of the permanence of death, either, as it's unusual for demons to befriend mortal beings and demons themselves are very hard to kill. Thus, they don't get why killing is perceived as a horrible thing by mortals.
