Andrew McLean "Drew" Galloway IV (born 6 June 1985) is a Scottish professional wrestler who first gained fame in the United Kingdom under his real name before becoming known globally for his time in WWE under the ring name Drew McIntyre, on two separate occasions.Since the age of fifteen, he spent years wrestling around the British Isles using the gimmick of "Thee" Drew Galloway, winning the Heavyweight titles of British Championship Wrestling (twice) and Insane Championship Wrestling (as its inaugural champion, no less) among others. Before too long, he signed with WWE in 2007 and Drew McIntyre was born. After a few months working an undefeated streak on SmackDown (and briefly going to Raw), McIntyre was sent to developmental territores Ohio Valley and Florida Championship Wrestling, where he enjoyed both solo runs and tag team work with Stu Sanders (both resulting in championships in FCW), as well as occasionally rekindled a rivalry from across the pond with Sheamus O'Shaunessy. He resurfaced on mainline WWE television in 2009, with a new gimmick where Vince McMahon himself had declared McIntyre to be a future world champion, going on to dub him "The Chosen One". His main roster undefeated streak continued in spades, as he went on to win the Intercontinental Championship and become the bane of Teddy Long's existence before finally losing the championship a year later. Following this he would briefly form a tag team with Cody Rhodes to both torment Matt Hardy and Christian as well as capture the WWE Tag Team Championship, and after that team as well as enter a romance storyline with Kelly Kelly which ultimately went nowhere, with Drew slowly but surely being relegated to Superstars regular and jobber status on the main shows. This led him to eventually join Heath Slater and Jinder Mahal in a faux rock band stable called 3MB, which lasted nearly two years before he was released in June 2014.Upon returning to the indies, Drew Galloway proceeded to make big waves, coming back to ICW in a subverted Big Damn Heroes run-in where he both saved and destroyed former best friend Jack Jester as well as cut a "mission statement" promo citing his intent to spark a revolution to "save" pro wrestling, inspired by the Battle of Bannockburn where Scotland first won its independence in 1314. Since then he's enjoyed meteoric momentum as one of the hottest acts on the independent scene on both sides of the Atlantic, winning the EVOLVE Championship, beating Jester to regain the ICW Heavyweight Championship, and turning both into World Championship titles by defending them in locales and against talents of several different nationalities. He also fought in WhatCulture Pro Wrestling, where he held the WCPW World Title until his resigning with WWE, dropping the title in a 30-man rumble match. In 2015 he signed with Total Nonstop Action in a run which initially consisted of leading battles against ever-present interchanging Power Stable threats, before eventually competing for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship, sharing a ring with Kurt Angle several times on his farewell tour, and finally, becoming TNA World Heavyweight Champion. He eventually lost the championship and then turned heel (the same in reverse order had taken place earlier in ICW), undergoing a series of short feuds as well as becoming the Impact Grand Champion temporarily before ultimately parting ways with the now-renamed Impact Wrestling in February 2017.To the surprise of many, he turned up at WWE's NXT TakeOver: Orlando event about six weeks later and announced he was making his return to the promotion under their NXT brand. This culminated in him winning the NXT Championship from Bobby Roode at TakeOver: Brooklyn III. In 2018 he was drafted to Raw as part of the Superstar Shake-up and as Dolph Ziggler's teammate, eventually winning the Tag Team Championships. After spending much of 2019 in the upper-midcard, he entered 2020 triumphantly, first by winning the Royal Rumble then finally the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 36, making him the first Scottish-born WWE Champion, and also making him the thirty-first WWE Triple Crown Champion in the process. In 2021, Pro Wrestling Illustrated named him the fourth best wrestler of 2021, behind Kenny Omega, Roman Reigns and Bobby Lashley.

Defeat Means Friendship: Johnny Gargano and Rich Swann had a long running feud that lead to them finding mutual respect and teaming up to win the Open The United Gate titles, which they then vacated saying Dragon Gate USA was done and they were going to become the first tag team champions of EVOLVE... that didn't workout, so Gargano instead teamed up with another man learned to respect in defeat, Galloway.

The Rival: Wolfgang of the "New Age Klique" was one of his first and longest lasting in the UK and to a lesser extent, his tag team partner Red Lightning. Did not follow him to the states like Sheamus but Wolfgang was right there waiting when Galloway returned to Scotland. As EVOLVE Champion, Roderick Strong was the first wrestler that made him lose his cool and the one he had the most trouble getting rid of. Ricochet was more indirect, as holder of the Open The Brave Gate but was the first man to defeat him in the promotion.

Arch-Enemy: Chris Renfrew was shaping up to be this in ICW. However, after turning heel, it is most definitely Grado. In WWE he had... Teddy Long. Matt Hardy and Christian at least came pretty close in 2010. In TNA he quickly made enemies out of the Beat Down Clan and Jeff Jarrett's GFW invasion, then moved on into World Championship feuds, with Bobby Lashley being the closest he got to obtaining a new sworn enemy. Andrade "Cien" Almas in NXT. Finn Bálor and the members of The Shield had been his main targets from fall 2018 to spring 2019. While Brock Lesnar and Lashley certainly stepped up as formidable rivals in 2020, it is Randy Orton who emerged that year as Drew's most hated enemy in his WWE Championship run. Jinder Mahal in mid-2021 after Jinder costs Drew to win the Money In The Bank Briefcase. Happy Corbin and Madcap Moss in early 2022 after Corbin injured Drew's neck. Karrion Kross became Drew's enemy after Kross interfered in Drew's matches and became Kross' target since his return to WWE.

Wrestling Monster: From the beginning of his second run on the main roster all the way up to his WrestleMania 35 feud with Roman Reigns, Drew might very well have been the most terrifying monster heel WWE has seen in decades. Before he lost at WrestleMania to Reigns it was legitimately hard to name instances in which he's actually been defeated. Elements of this actually carried over to his WWE Championship run; while he takes and sells offense more as a face than he did as a monster heel, Drew has kicked out of the finishers of virtually every single challenger he's had, up to and including a kickout at one from an F5, and hasn't been pinned a single time even in non-title matches, both of which are pretty close to unheard of in modern WWE. And while he's had his share of rivals coming after the title, Dolph Ziggler and Randy Orton are the two who've managed to truly piss him off, prompting him to physically remind them how vicious and terrifying he can be.

Sensing You Are Outmatched
 Drew McIntyre (Wrestling) / int_55ab6131
comment
Sensing You Are Outmatched: After the EVOLVE Reboot, Galloway would imitate Hero and try to put the title on the line when he did not have to, only for the referee not to allow it due to the new ranking system that went into effect after Galloway won the belt. When he faced Open The Freedom Gate Champion Ricochet, who logically should have been high enough in the rankings, Galloway didn't seem to have a problem with it not being a title match. Though after his loss, he would later willingly defend the title against Johnny Gargano, who defeated Ricochet and successfully defend the EVOLVE belt against him. Seems to be an underlying cause behind his Face–Heel Turn in ICW. The competition for his title only kept getting stiffer and stiffer, and in the meantime his best friends Jester and Lightning—the former of whom was part of that competition at one point, the latter of whom was running the place—had both come around to his cause after seeing the results of what he's done with the ICW World Heavyweight Championship. note For starters, it was under his reign that it became a World Heavyweight Championship. So what to do? Turn heel together to ensure the gravy train keeps going by any means necessary.

Enemy Mine: Rich Swann had been injured by the Premier Athlete Brand early on EVOLVE 34 while trying to save Johnny Gargano from them. Swann hadn't recovered by the time his title shot against Galloway had come up in the main event, but did his best anyway. As the match went on the Premier Athlete Brand ran out to continue attacking Swann but were all knocked away by Galloway, who then went back to wrestling. While he eventually won with a sleeper hold, the easier way out would have been to leave the "brand" to their own business.

Heel–Face Turn: Went from arrogant, bloodthirsty villain to...arrogant, bloodthirsty hero in the leadup to Royal Rumble 2020. The key difference being that he stopped standing next to pseudo-authoritative heels to enforce their will on a Shield member and started engaging in interaction with the crowd and leading chants in his own support. The switch was solidified by Drew literally booting Brock Lesnar out of the titular match and then going on to win the whole thing to universal jubilation.

Jerkass Has a Point: Despite certainly being a bad guy at the time, what with his blind, half-insane conquest of vengeance against Jey Uso and Seth Rollins, Drew's comments toward CM Punk after his late 2023 return, calling him a self-serving Narcissist and a terrible leader, resonated enough after Punk's notoriously volatile parting with his previous employer that the crowd at the time started cheering Drew instead of the once invincibly popular Punk.

After his WWE release, he kept doing the Future Shock, but added the Claymore (running single-leg dropkick), Iron Maiden (a marriage between the Regal Stretch and a Crossface), and occasionally a jumping piledriver; since his NXT return he's just been using the Claymore while the Future Shock is now just a Signature Move. Starting after his 2021 move back to SmackDown, Drew added a new finishing sequence to his arsenal, and his very first submission: the Future Shock immediately followed by a modified, lethal-looking Kimura Lock.

Fatal Flaw: Overconfidence, leading to an occasional lack of focus as well as easily getting frustrated when things didn't go his way. This was lampshaded by a commentator at least once per match as a way of justifying why he was suddenly a jobber in WWE. Come his modern day heel run, it became obsession getting in the way of common sense. After being screwed out of winning the World title at Clash at the Castle, Drew would gradually start to turn to darkness after Jey Uso was welcomed to RAW with open arms, prompting Drew to start an obsessive crusade against him. Then at the Royal Rumble, he wound up being eliminated by CM Punk when he wasn't expecting it, resulting in him having an obsession with taking potshots and jabs at him when he was still injured. Come Wrestlemania XL, not only does an already battered Seth Rollins manage to actually get some momentum going after Drew decides to continuously taunt Punk, but after Drew mocks him after winning the title, Punk finally beats him down to the extent it allowed Damian Priest to cash in his Money in the Bank and end Drew's reign just as it began.

Tragic Villain: Drew's slow, insidious heel turn toward the end of 2023 was mediated, almost in its entirety, by the way he was rewarded for being carrying WWE's banner during a historically awful time in wrestling by repeatedly being screwed out of his recognition and dignity by cheating heels, especially Roman Reigns and his cousins, leading him down a path of obsession and refusal to forgive or move on.

The Ace: After four years of mostly losing, Drew Galloway caught Chris Hero by surprise with a double under hook DDT, became champion of EVOLVE and promised a revolution. Next year he was still champion, calling himself a World Champion and also won the WWN's Open The Freedom Gate and Outback Championship Wrestling title in Australia, his native Scotland's Insane Championship Wrestling Heavyweight and Scottish Wrestling Alliance main singles titles and then won gold in Danish Pro Wrestling. Really earned an audience for his "revolution". He's become this in his second WWE run, too, with 2020 seeing him go over Brock Lesnar and Randy Orton and, owing to several absences and realignments note Becky Lynch going on hiatus due to her pregnancy, Roman Reigns also going on hiatus before drifting to the dark side, and a host of other injuries is the closest thing to the proverbial "guy" that WWE has as of late 2020-early 2021.

Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: From the moment of WALTER's debut, everyone from both branches of NXT was crushed like an ant. At the 2019 Survivor Series however, Drew easily eliminates the brute within 3 minutes as the first elimination from the match. During the 2020 Royal Rumble match, Drew, with a little help from Ricochet, eliminated Brock Lesnar, after the latter had eliminated 13 other superstars (which include two former world champions and two behemoths). Even as Lesnar tries to leave the arena, Drew continued to taunt the Beast. After winning the Rumble, Drew challenges Lesnar for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 36 and embarrassed Lesnar further on one episode of Raw by giving him 3 Claymore Kicks. On the Grandest Stage of Them All, Drew finally ended the Beast's title reign to win his first WWE Championship.

For comparison, every time the members of The Shield went after Brock for the title since they first broke up, they either failed to take him down, had to do it through cheating means, failed to earn and keep the unanimous support of the fans, and/or otherwise went down early to other circumstances — thus even their victories guaranteed Lesnar had an open door to claim back the title at any time. Drew McIntyre, in one try, is so far shaping up to be the active roster's best shot at making sure the championship never has to go back to Lesnar again — solving the Outside-Context Problem that The Hounds of Justice failed to completely get a handle on over the course of five years.

Misery Builds Character: Pretty much the entire crux of his WWE main event run, whether Drew is a heel or (especially) a face. Fitting for a man who is popularly known for his original entrance theme titled "Broken Dreams".

Hypocrite: Seth Rollins accuses him of being one in the lead-up to their World Championship title match at Wrestlemania XL. For all Drew's talk about Seth being obsessed with the Bloodline and unable to move on, he himself is obsessed with CM Punk and can't resist every opportunity to rub injuring Punk to the degree he had to miss Wrestlemania to his face. The reason? Punk eliminated him at the Royal Rumble. Additionally, Seth calls out Drew not wanting the Bloodline to interfere in their match and "taint" his victory, but it's pointed out that his victories over Cody Rhodes only came about because the Bloodline interfered, meaning Drew has little issue with interference as long as it benefits him. Karma catches up to McIntyre in spectacular fashion at Wrestlemania XL, where although he wins the World Heavyweight title off of Seth Rollins, he once again takes the opportunity to rub it in CM Punk's face, sparking Punk to attack him and leaving him vulnerable to a cash-in by Damian Priest, tarnishing what should have been his moment of triumph.

Being 6'5 and 265 pounds (120 kilos and just shy of 19 stone for European tropers), Drew has incredible power, able to lift guys like Big Show, and his strikes hit like a truck. But he is also deceivingly agile for a man of his size. He's able to do kip ups, and can dive over the top rope with a somersault plancha!

Start of Darkness: Losing to Roman Reigns and the Bloodline at CATC2022 sent Drew into a downward spiral. He had hoped to finally win a world championship in front a live crowd (in his own nation no less) after the COVID-19 Pandemic had prevented him from doing so before, only to lose through Roman's malicious, unjust machinations (read: he cheated). Ever since then, Drew has lost almost every major match he went into and has grown increasingly bitter about it. This culminated when Jey Uso joined the RAW roster, after defecting from the Bloodline, and was treated as a hero by the fans. Soon after, Drew failed to win the world title again, this time against Seth Rollins, and at that point, Drew said "screw it" and eventually turned to the dark side.

Hero Killer: Drew's second main roster run in WWE has to be seen to be believed. In a little under a year, he's categorically torn apart Dolph Ziggler, Finn Bálor, and every single member of The Shield, and may have been the straw that broke the camel's back and influenced Kurt Angle's decision to retire by making Angle tap out to his own finisher. It's hard to remember the last time a heel wrestler in WWE has been booked to such an intimidating level of strength. Even Braun Strowman, who WWE had already been actively calling "The Monster Among Men" at the time, was getting his head kicked in by a Claymore far more often than he was taking Drew out with his running powerslam.

The Hero: Has taken this position for a time in both ICW and TNA, and finally did so again in WWE. In the former he took the ICW championship and kept up his promises by defending it outside so much it officially became a world title, but then when the competition got too stiff for too long he deconstructed the trope with a collective Face–Heel Turn alongside Jack Jester and Red Lightning where they still claim they're the heroes doing villainous things for the company's own good. In the latter he earned the #1 contendership for Ethan Carter's TNA World Heavyweight Championship at Bound for Glory only to end up winning Matt Hardy a spot in the match at the last minute and then getting pinned by Hardy at BFG, keeping EC3 undefeated while Matt got the title. A few months and a double turn later, Matt got the same last-minute treatment, but apparently got others to take out his opponents—at which point Drew cashed in his Feast or Fired title shot to outsmart Matt and take the strap. While his NXT run did tease at how well he could perform in this role, the first year and a half of his WWE main roster run seemed to be centered around heel alliances centered around taking down the members of The Shield. Though McIntyre did spend much of 2018 as a fearsome Hero Killer, the first half-plus of 2019 largely saw him act as an enforcer to Baron Corbin and Shane McMahon, with Drew's main event hopes slowly fading by the day. Then a brief sabbatical saw him emerge in late 2019 as the looser, more confident, snarkier, absolute terminator that ICW and TNA once knew, before finally targeting Brock Lesnar in 2020 from the Royal Rumble to WrestleMania, taking the WWE World Heavyweight Championship from The Beast Incarnate, and successfully retaining his critical acclaim through his title run to date. Expy: The Undertaker in his prime, in several ways. He is a tall, imposing man who is surprisingly agile for his size and can have a great match with any style of wrestler. This makes a lot of sense when you consider that he's talked about The Deadman practically being his mentor during his WWE days. His howling taunt on the turnbuckle since returning to WWE partially invokes Undertaker's post-victory kneeling pose, especially on Raw in 2018 when the lights turn full glowing blue. He has also taken Undertaker's mantle of being a Wrestling Monster with uniquely-styled and powerful theme music who eventually becomes The Conscience of WWE as a top-level face, all without deviating from his own personality — which arguably makes him a truer heir to Undertaker's legacy than any supernatural wrestler that followed The Deadman. Jeff Jarrett. Jarrett was called the Chosen One in WCW, had an infamous Vince in power on his side at the time, then after leaving the promotion he went on to restore the prestige of the NWA World Heavyweight Championship by defending it everywhere whenever he carried it as part of TNA. The difference is Jarrett's actually been WCW World Champion, while the closest Drew got in WWE the first time was his initial Intercontinental title run. Ultimately he became WWE Champion in his second run with the company in the culmination of months of Claymore-kicking Brock Lesnar's ass... but to put in perspective what it took to get there, he had to get fired, completely drop the Chosen One mindset including the aftershock of its failure, reinvent himself as a warrior, give independent titles world championship status, come back through NXT and conquer that brand, overcome getting injured with help from Dolph Ziggler, take Raw by storm as part of a team with Ziggler, spend about a year being used by Baron Corbin and Shane McMahon against The Shield, take a sabbatical to deal with that, and then come back on his own as a house of fire, all before he could get to that defining moment where he kicked Lesnar out of the Royal Rumble.

A Hero to His Hometown: His Popularity Power in Scotland needs to be seen to be believed. The fact that WWE allowed him to wrestle as a Face when they went over there, despite them always using him as a Heel the rest of the time speaks volumes already. Then there's his return to ICW. Upon being revealed as the big damn hero for his old-time best friend Jack Jester, the crowd absolutely exploded for him, continuing to go nuts even when he attacked Jester on the stage and put him through a table. This provided the prefect backdrop for his 1314 "mission statement" promo, which helped redefine quite a few fans' perception of him as a performer as well as set him up as a major face on the indy circuit overall.
