FAUGH A BALLAGH!Translation CLEAR THE WAY!Stephen Farrelly (Irish form: StÃofán Ó Ferghaile, born 28 January 1978 in Cabra, Dublin) is an Irish professional wrestler. After having worked as a bodyguard, he took up the sport of professional wrestling after training with Cliff Compton, Tank Toland and Cindy Rogers in Larry Sharpe's Monster Factory wrestling school in April 2002, at Bret Hart's suggestion. He received an injury early on but returned two years later, debuting in Irish Whip Wrestling as Galldubh before returning to the name he was better known for, Sheamus O'Shaunessy. His exploits here lead to booking with larger promotions, including one affiliated with the Global Professional Wrestling Alliance in Austria. From there, Sheamus would eventually earn a developmental deal with the largest pro wrestling promotion left in the world, WWE.He is the first Irish Whip Wrestling International Heavyweight Champion, and FCW Florida Champion, a three time US Champion, three time WWE (World Heavyweight) Champion, one time World Heavyweight Champion, and, alongside Cesaro as The Bar, a four-time WWE Raw Tag Team Champion and one-time SmackDown Tag Team Champion. He was also the 2010 King of the Ring winner, and 2012 Royal Rumble winner. He won the 2015 Money in the Bank ladder match and thus its Money in the Bank contract, which he successfully cashed in at Survivor Series 2015 to become the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.He has appeared in a handful of movies including Two-Ton in The Escapist and Rocksteady in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows. | |

It's an odd team up, first off, because the two have been professional rivals dating back to their days wrestling in the UK. In WWE, especially during Sheamus's face run, the two were known to be bitter enemies. Sheamus and Barrett are from Ireland and England respectively - two countries that (stereo)typically don't like each other. On top of that, the timing was odd with Barrett as King of the Ring (not that WWE's helping anyone to remember that) and Sheamus as Money in the Bank holder - both situations where, in theory, each guy should be getting some measure of singles push. Although in retrospect, there seems to have been some logic to this, as soon after winning the championship, Sheamus and Barrett were joined by Rusev and Alberto Del Rio to make a stable, The League of Nations. | |

He misses absolutely no action from this and comes back that Friday seemingly unhurt. Lampshaded by Michael Cole on the August 26, 2011 episode of Smackdown, who points out that Sheamus can endure a massive amount of pain. On separate occasions, Randy Orton hit him with the RKO and John Cena hit him with the Attitude Adjustment... only for him to get up in less than a minute and knock them out cold with the Brogue Kick. Mark Henry gave him the World's Strongest Slam onto the steel steps. The announcers made it out to be crippling injury. He comes back next monday, running to the ring to help John Cena. The very next day on Super Smackdown he faces the Great Khali and gets attacked by Jinder Mahal. After taking a few blows, he dodges a Khali Chop, Brogue Kicks him, then he gives Jinder a High Cross. In a match against Wade Barrett, Christian interfered and soon Barrett and Christian were beating on Sheamus, who was trapped in a corner. Not only did Sheamus fight out of it, he delivered a Brogue Kick to Barrett and nearly powerbombed Christian. There's also been the slightly common occurrence of him kicking out of powerful moves at a 1 count. This is acknowledged in-universe. If he doesn't kick out until 2, one of the announcers will often comment on how badly his opponent has worn him down. At Hell in a Cell 2012, he became the first (and to date, still the only) person to receive a KO Punch from The Big Show and kick out of the subsequent pin. He lost the match anyway after taking a second KO Punch, but the fact that it took two of them is still significant. | |

Demoted to Extra: A multi-time WWE Champion who fought Triple H in a high profile match at WrestleMania 26, put him out of action for nearly a year at the next PPV and became King of the Ring. Since winning KotR, however, he's subsequently lost more often than he's won. When Triple H returned, Sheamus interrupted his promo... and was promptly beaten down like he was an afterthought and then subsequently squashed by Evan Bourne. He managed to win the United States Championship from Daniel Bryan, who invoked his rematch clause for WrestleMania... in a match that subsequently got pushed off the card into a dark match that turned into a meaningless battle royal won by the Great Khali. From main eventer who put a legend out of action to not even on the show a year later. Happened again after Royal Rumble 2014. Part of it had to do with his being on the shelf with an injury for about four months, but with so many high-profile storylines happening, Sheamus was sort of pushed off to the side. Perhaps the biggest sign of re-promotion came when he won the Money in the Bank ladder match in June 2015, and then when he cashed it in five months later to take down Roman Reigns and become The Authority's new WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Shout-Out: Has recently started using a finisher that was used by his spiritual predecessor, Dave "Fit" Finlay, in WWE for a number of years. Also, his behavior at one point in the feud between himself and Alberto Del Rio. He stole Del Rio's Cool Car, took it for a joyride around town, and brought it back a complete mess. Maybe this was unintentional, but the sequence seemed an awful lot like how a Face Eddie Guerrero would have dealt with an Alberto Del Rio. In addition, it happened in Texas, which was Guerrero's home state. In December 2012, Sheamus ended up presenting to John Cena a whole list of Irish victories including Johnny Logan winning the Eurovision Song Contest and Father Ted kicking Bishop Brennan up the arse. (Sheamus later went on to attempt to describe the entire premise of Father Ted to Cena. Cena didn't get it.) After his 2015 comeback and heel turn, he's adopted the catchphrase of "Are you not entertained?", which is one of the more well-remembered lines from Gladiator. However, where in the film the phrase is shouted by the hero as part of a Shaming the Mob moment, Sheamus uses it almost ironically - or perhaps as a Take That, Audience!/Be Careful What You Wish For against segments of the WWE Universe that thought he was generic and uninteresting as a face. | |
