Nobisuke, having bought Nobita a new pet, reminiscent on the past where as a child, he once had a dream encountering an ancient Golden Beetle Lord. Inspired by watching a nature documentary on giant extinct animals, Nobita then asks Doraemon to check the past if there exists any actual giant beetles from before existence of humans — one thing leads to another and soon Doraemon, Nobita, with their friends Gian, Suneo and Shizuka coming along for the ride, find themselves traveling to a futuristic 22nd-Century animal reserve called Miracle Island, where extinct prehistoric creatures roam freely and coexist peacefully with humans.Advertisement:propertag.cmd.push(function() { proper_display('tvtropes_mobile_ad_2'); })At the same time... roughly two-and-a-half decades from the present timeline, because of a case of mistaken identity, the courier from the future assigned to collect Nobita and Doraemon accidentally transports Nobita's father, Nobisuke - then eleven years old - two centuries into the future, with Nobisuke ending up amnesiac in the process. Nobita and the gang ultimately rendezvous with Nobisuke in Rokoro Village, home to a rural tribe living on Miracle Island, only for the arrival of a group of futuristic poachers to further complicate things.

Adaptation Expansion: The first act is an expansion of the manga short, "Long Live the Dodo Bird", with Doraemon and Nobita intending to recapture extinct, prehistoric animals with the Time Hole in order to save their species. But rather than sending the extinct animals to an uninhabited island like in the manga, Doraemon instead sends them to the animal sanctuary in the future called Miracle Island, kickstarting the adventure.

Face Doodling: Nobita gets his face scribbled by Koron after losing a drawing contest with Nobisuke, much to the amusement of Gian, Suneo, Shizuka, and the rest of the Koron village kids. Doraemon then compliments Nobita's drawing of a giant lizard is excellent... only to be informed they're supposed to be drawing Kurajo, Koron's pet dodo. But then again, art really isn't Nobita's forte (like so many other things).

That Was Not a Dream: Yeah, Nobisuke telling Doraemon and Nobita about his encounter with the Golden Beetle during his youth, which he assumes it was a dream? It's not, Nobisuke did witness the Golden Beetle when he's accidentally sent into the future, only for his memories to be erased again, the beetle being fragments of his memory once he's sent back to the 1980s.

Continuity Nod: In a touching moment when Nobisuke and Tamako talks about Nobita's birth, the scene is portrayed with animated footage lifted directly from the manga (specifically, the one chapter where Nobita asks Doraemon to find his "birth parents" after receiving a scolding for coming home late).
