Kitaro Birth: The Mystery of Gegege (Kitaro Tanjou: Gegege no Nazo) is a 2023 animated movie and an installment in the GeGeGe no Kitarō franchise set in continuity with its 2018 adaptation. While the movie was made in celebration of creator Shigeru Mizuki's 100th birthday, it is as the title implies a retelling of Kitaro's origin story. This time around, however, some changes have been made—putting major focus on the human man Mizuki, who raised Kitaro after burying his parents; and a pre-rot Medama Oyaji, now a longtime friend. Together the two men investigate the mysterious circumstances concerning M, a supernatural drug that's begun to crop up.Like many Kitaro installments, the movie was produced by Toei Animation, releasing on November 27, 2023. | |
