Artistic License – Biology: Most of the mutations frankly are biologically impossible due to the nature of tetrapod homeoboxes. This is somewhat explained by the "Delta Nile Virus" somehow making the human genome pliable... but that doesn't do away with all the developmental constraints humans have.

Always Chaotic Evil: As a consequence of lacking genuine defects (like the need for sleep) + being flat out told from birth they are superior morally to humans and that it is their job to fix their poluted, crappy world, the Numans by large are unable to relate to humanity. This has the unintentional side effect of making them guiltless sociopaths, essentially by their own upbringing but also unavoidably so due to the circumstances at hand. Only one in the far future feels some remorse for his kind's actions and is shrugged off as a weirdo.
