Gambit is a Marvel Comics superhero, usually associated with the X-Men franchise. Remy LeBeau, aka Gambit, is a Cajun mutant and master-thief, adopted and raised by the Thieves Guild of New Orleans. The character was introduced in 1990, during writer Chris Claremont's run of Uncanny X-Men, and swiftly became a member of that team. Subsequent stories expanded on his checkered past and portrayed him as trying to atone for some of his previous mistakes. For much of his publication history he's been romantically linked to his teammate Rogue, and the two eventually married. As well as his role on the team, Gambit has been the star of several of his own solo comics and co-star of several others (most often with Rogue, but also with heroes such as Wolverine). If you see a link to this page that only applies to one of these works, please direct it to the series it belongs to.

Laser Hallway: Gambit's a world-class thief, which tends to be emphasized in his solo series. This means that he runs into laser security systems on a regular basis. Mostly they're hallways, but sometimes — as in Gambit (1997) — it'll be a vertical grid or another variant.

Temporary Love Interest: The solo series introduce numerous interesting women into Gambit's life, but as it's his on-off relationship with Rogue that runs through the main X-Men books (sometimes alongside his complicated feelings for ex-wife Bella Donna), there isn't really room for another lasting relationship. Some of his love interests betray him, some die, and at least one is revealed to be a nun.

Murder, Inc.: The New Orleans Assassins Guild are rivals to the Thieves' Guild and a major part of Gambit's backstory — his ex-wife Bella Donna's family were leaders of the guild. They're a key part of the Gambit (1993) series and appear fairly regularly (although less prominently) in the later books.

Long-Lived: Candra's gift to the New Orleans Thieves' Guild was the 'Elixir of Life' and older members of the guild are generally double the age they appear to be.

Thieves' Guild: The New Orleans Thieves Guild was first introduced as part of Gambit's backstory in the X-Men team book, but it's a much more regular presence in his solo books. Gambit (1993) and Gambit: King of Thieves both use it as a key part of the plot, with King of Thieves also introducing a global guild.

The Big Easy: Gambit's roots are in New Orleans, and many stories take him back there for one thing or another. Bourbon Street, voodoo (both genuine and fake), alligators, flashing for mardi gras beads... they all turn up at various points.

Forgotten Fallen Friend: Remy's adoptive brother, Henri LeBeau, dies near the start of the Gambit (1993) series, Gambit's first solo story. As of 2022, references to him are few and far between in Gambit's later solo stories - even the ones featuring their father or Henri's widow.
