Danganronpa MK2 Goodbye Despair is a fanfiction rewrite story created by Sozzay and BiteSizedBird inspired by Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair. The story follows the same cast of sixteen students being forced to participate in a 'killing school trip' on Jabberwock Island. The difference here is that the protagonist is Mahiru Koizumi, the Ultimate Photographer, instead of Hajime Hinata, the Ultimate ???.The story is written via blog meant to imitate the presentation of the game, with each character speaking in turn along with a sprite to denote their current emotional state, along with Mahiru's own internal monologue to communicate her own feelings and commentate on what's happening around her. It has been on hiatus since June 10, 2022, sadly, with it currently having everything up to the Chapter 2 trial. | |

Adaptational Intelligence: In the original game, Mahiru characterized herself as someone without an intelligence streak, whereas here she is the one who leads the class through much of the trial and is able to correctly identify the blackened, in the same capacity as Hajime, who instead is one of the other main "point getters". It should be noted that she's not unintelligent in the game, though it's implied to be Nagito and Byakuya's influence as they encourage her or tell her to not let her emotions cloud her judgement, since one of Mahiru's hallmarks is that she's a Fiery Redhead. In the Chapter 1 investigation, she at first uses the same "Not confident or smart enough to investigate" as in canon when at first wanting to guard the body until Nagito encourages her and she investigates while Hajime takes her place guarding the body and she lends him her camera so he can create a map of where everyone was during the blackout. Byakuya and Teruteru. Byakuya also confiscates the portable griddle and stove, and forces Teruteru to stay in the dining hall with the others. This forces Teruteru to alter his plan to kill Nagito, instead managing to swipe Mahiru's camera and sneaking out of the dining hall to move around in the dark and still accidentally kills Byakuya instead of Nagito. Hajime manages to finish the Twilight Syndrome game, while in the original, Chiaki needed to tell him how to unlock the full version. | |

Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: In the original game, Mahiru and Hiyoko grew to be close friends, whereas here Hiyoko is just as antagonistic with Mahiru as she is with everyone else. Hiyoko later grows to actively despise Mahiru in Chapter 2, refusing to attend Sonia's beach party because she was going to be there. Chiaki is who she becomes friends with in Mahiru's place. For her part, Mahiru doesn't dislike Hiyoko and tries to comfort her after she sees Hiyoko crying and running away from the beach house. However, as she tries to comfort her, the body discovery announcement commences... Also in the original, it was Mahiru, Hiyoko, Ibuki and Mikan that were the friend group in the Twilight Syndrome game and in the Danganronpa 3 anime, but this has Chiaki taking the place of Mahiru. This could potentially also be a lie by Monokuma, as, unlike claimed in the Twilight Syndrome game, Mahiru had nothing to do with covering up Natsumi Kuzuryu's murder according to Danganronpa 3, so it could be that Real!Chiaki wasn't a part of the friend group, still, like it was in canon. | |
