In this story, Seto was actually one of Yuugi's first friends before he was transferred to the foster care system after the death of his parents. And thanks to a chance encounter courtesy of Stain and Yami, Yuugi gets to continue his friendship with him while Seto tries, and fails, to keep things professional. In the original, Yuugi and Jounouchi became friends in high school and the blonde was more of a bully who picked on Yuugi for not being a man. In here, they meet in middle school and while Jounouchi is annoyed with Yuugi always finding him during his fights, there's no antagonism driven by toxic masculinity and the two become close friends.
