They proceed to conquer it and begin their ascension as big players in a superhuman world, navigating both politics and other forces that can match even their immense might.

On the other hand, all the crap they'd gone through prior to Ainz showing up meant that, while scared, the mutants weren't anywhere near as afraid as you'd expect. Shalltear was given the job of locating a facility that was imprisoning and selling mutants. This trope inevitably ensued.
