More often than not, however, these practices caused negative physical effects on the patients, who sometimes had their mental health deteriorate further due to the stress of the treatment. The "psychiatrists" who come to help her later on aren't much better, as they treat her more like a misbehaving child than an adult who's been through a serious trauma...which, unfortunately, is similar to how mental health patients were treated at the time.
