Trauma Conga Line: Aki has a pretty rough time over the course of the first two chapters. Long story short She awakens her psychic powers, promptly setting fire to her home and injuring her father with them. Instead of receiving any comfort or support, she's branded a monster by her own family and can think of no other recourse but to run away. She spends a full night running through Neo Domino, haunted by the name and unable to make sense of the world anymore. When she finally exhausts herself and takes a break, she accidentally falls asleep inside a shipping container bound for Satellite. Awakening in the middle of a battle between Security forces and local criminals, she activates her powers in a panic, hurting yet more people. Alone in a strange place, she ends up wandering endlessly until she realizes that she's in Satellite and spends the rest of the day just trying to get something to eat, dodging people who frighten her on all sides. Coming up short and wearing herself down to the point of exhaustion, she grows so desperate that she resorts to picking through trash, cutting open her hand in the process. Homeless, hungry, and tired, she doesn't even have the strength to cry herself to sleep. Did we mention she is only eight years old when all this happens? Thankfully, things do start getting a bit better after she gets taken in by Martha. | |
