Adaptational Angst Upgrade: During the events of It's Gotta Be Perfect, Melony gets trapped by the tentacles surrounding the castle and her friends aren't able to free her before the castle goes down, causing her to be trapped alongside Peach. Western Spaghetti puts Meggy through the wringer. First, when she confronts Wren the first time, she learns that she isn't actually the original Inkling Meggy turned human, but a clone made by the Inkweaver with her memories. Then he reveals that Desti knew the entire time and hid it from her, along with having other secrets about herself. Then, rather than simply killing her over and over again, Wern torments her with her friends and family, from mind controlling them into verbally tearing her down for being a clone to personally killing them in front of her. It's enough that Meggy completely breaks and agrees to go along with what Wren has planned for her. Worse, when the group escapes the simulation, Meggy ends up in a coma. When she comes out, she's been driven to such insanity that she tries to assassinate Desti. Then she accidentally shoots Tari in the process, which snaps her out of it just enough that she's unable to tell if she's still in the simulation or reality, and she runs off and lives on the streets for weeks until her friends find her. One-Shot Wren is also given a bit of this in his backstory. Rather than a simple decline in fame after losing Splatfest, he teammates died in the aftermath of Anime Island during the Anime Arc because they lost too much ink. He didn't participate in Splatfest afterwards due to his grief, only to be called a quitter for doing so and losing everything else. Once she's freed from the pit, Melony starts having issues with her Deity Powers, as the Deity who gave them to her friends her to be wasting her abilities. This is shown of several occasions to be causing her distress. Aside from how his actions leading up to and during IGBP strained his relationships with his friends, it's eventually revealed that SMG4 signed a contract when purchasing the Totally Normal Keyboard and now belongs to Puzzles. | |

In Western Spaghetti, Meggy specifically seeks out One-Shot Wren because she hopes that he will help her convince her brother of her identity after her transformation from Inkling to human. Additionally, One-Shot Wern is said to have simply fallen off after he lost Splatfest. Here, he was considered a quitter for not competing Splatfest due to his grief over his teammates, who died in the aftermath of Anime Island. The reward for moving Marty so the castle can continue construction is changed from being ownership of the castle to money. The same chapter, it's Mario, not SMG4 who has the Jerkass Realization and apologizes to Marty, offering up partial ownership of the pizza shop in order to get him to let construction finally finish. The trip into the demonic pit that happened in Let’s Go Visit Peach is explicitly a rescue mission for both Peach and Melony, while in canon it was just to get a Star for the castle. In canon, the Watermelon Man attacked SMG4 and company to invite them to Melony’s birthday party (and turn their butt cheeks into watermelons). Here, he sought out the group in order to find Melony, as they were the last people she (as a watermelon) were seen with, and Melony doesn’t learn he’s her father until he explains as such upon realizing who she is. In WOTFI 2023, Mario joined up with Marty because he wanted to steal SMG3’s Club Penguin skin. Here, it’s because Mario felt like he was being pushed to the side by SMG4 and stole SMG3’s notebook because he thought it was one of the only ways to make SMG4 listen to him. | |
