One villain tries diving underwater to wash his glue off, only to learn the glue isn't water soluble. The USJ Noumu is programmed to protect Shigaraki above anything else. Momo keeps it pinned for some time by continuously shooting at Shigaraki. Being plants, Ibara's hair vines can't react as quickly in extreme cold. Unfortunately for her, she ends up in the same zone as Todoroki at the USJ and he thinks nothing of freezing half the mountain at once. Also, the ground being frozen makes it almost impossible for her vines to tunnel through the ground. One villain can absorb the energy from sound waves to fuel her Quirk, but she's as weak to fire as any normal person, so she keeps dodging to avert it. Bakugo defeats her by firing such a powerful explosion she has no chance of dodging it. Shigaraki's Quirk requires he make physical contact with whatever he's trying to decay. At the USJ, Izuku holds him off using telekinesis to keep Shigaraki from touching him. Recovery Girl's Quirk uses the target's stamina to heal their injuries. As such, she couldn't heal Izuku after the USJ attack since he had completely exhausted himself, forcing All Might to take Izuku to an actual hospital. Hyper Regeneration heals the user back to their default state, but if the user is given the quirk while missing body parts, the quirk won't know to regrow them and will simply heal what's already present, assuming that to be the "default state". Because Shinso's quirk only lasts until the target is hurt, he's functionally quirkless in the obstacle course of the Sports Festival as every single student is repeatedly falling or getting hit by something.

Aoyama is nearly killed by a villain who causes involuntary muscle contractions but is knocked out in one punch by Shoji. Finally, Hydrodynamic and Alkali nearly kill Shouto yet are instantly knocked out by Ibara; on top of that, they only did so well because he refused to use his fire. When the General Studies Course students complain about how their Quirks were unsuited against robots, 1-A is quick to point out how they should have trained up their bodies as well, as several members of their class had Quirks unsuited for direct combat.

To even have a chance at hurting the Nomu, Momo unlocks firepower of a terrifying variety and intensity. In chapter 8, Momo gains One For All, and learns to use it far faster than Izuku ever managed in canon. Similarly, the I-Island attack forces several students to improve their skills on the fly in order to survive. Mina pulls out her Acidman super move half a year before canon. Yui uses her Quirk to control the environment, growing and shrinking the walls and floor to strike the villains. Izuku's strength grows even more, now able to go toe to toe with Wolfram when using their Quirks, and stopping a supersonic multi-ton metal cube in seconds.

Downplayed with a villain whose Quirk lets him shine a light like a floodlight. While he completely negates Tokoyami's and Kuroiro's Quirks, he has no combat skills of his own and needs several bodyguards to keep the two from just beating him themselves. Komori finds herself up against a boar villain who can counter her mushrooms by eating them.

At the USJ, Bakugo and Todoroki are chewed out by their classmates for their actions. Bakugo for nearly killing his opponent and obviously enjoying it, at least until he has a My God, What Have I Done? moment. And Todoroki for refusing to use his fire even when not doing so would mean his death and the deaths of his classmates. Shouto actually goes through several over his refusal to use fire. The first is after the USJ attack from Aizawa, where the Pro Hero points out that Todoroki's stubborn refusal not only endangers himself but also his classmates due to giving two villains more ammunition to work with. When Todoroki insists he "doesn't need [Endeavor's] fire", Aizawa fires back that clearly he doesn't need to be a hero either. Momo gives another in a sparring match after the USJ, where she casually bests him while demonstrating how she has learned from the battle while he has not, and then verbally tears into him. Hagakure gives one to Todoroki after she realizes he would have let the villains kill him or his classmates before using his fire, which prompts her to also slap him hard. What finally makes it stick is two conversations with his peers during the crisis on I-Island, as they drive home how he is behaving so much like Endeavour and Flect Turn.
